Supports need some means of catching up when behind

Every other role has either minions or jungle camps to fall back on when they are behind to catch up.

Supports just don't... Unfair.

Seriously though, what happened to that bonus exp mastery when near higher level allies?

I doubt that would even be enough regardless.

have you ever played Annie support, you can be behind, but once you get lvl 6, flash + ult combo stun + exhaust + adc fallow = GG

You can usually catch a wave or two in a side lane that's pushing while your team is elsewhere.

thats extremely unreliable tho, and 9/10 times i get ping spammed by whomever's "farm" it belongs to, and If I ignore it half the time they rage out/tilt/afk it's just not worth it.

If it's that far into the game, it's nobody's farm except who gets to it first, laning phase is far over. If you're top and the other 4 are in bot lane, fuck them and take it. Just don't push it too far if enemy team is MIA. Also, take Scuttle crab or some jg camps, while clearing vision for that sweet ward kill exp/gold.

Personally I'm glad they removed the mastery. All it did was promote babysitting your ADC in a 2v0 lane. The support meta right now very much rewards proactive support players/champions.

You get your levels/gold back by roaming and making stuff happen outside of bot lane. This is particularly important if you're behind because it will pull the enemy support away from bot and give your ADC some peace and quiet (+ some juicy solo xp). Nail down the core principles of roaming as support (mostly just when/where to roam but also includes knowing deep ward spots to plan that out); you will find you will be more on par with your ADC in terms of level even after a rough laning phase.
