Why arent people running electrocute leona?

Heres A little secret ive learned from being a stat buff

Hard cc support tanks such as Leona Blitzcrank Nautilus Thresh** tend to take the least amount of damage in game "EARLY".** And theres 2** main** reasons why

1: Squishy focus. It doesnt make sense in most cases to focus down a high hp/ low dps target when there is an adc who is much more efficient to take out. 2: Having inherent tank stats makes you take less damage :D

My point, doubling and tripling down on tank stats early, for kill lane tanks such as the ones listed, is nearly a waste. These champions end up being far tanky enough with build pathing alone. Building any amount of damage on them however kills build pathing in most cases. Try adding some burst to your early/mid game from your rune page, and i dont think youll be dissapointed.

Aftershock does comparable damage, and makes you immortal at the same time. Leonas adaptive damage defaults to AP, which is another reason why Electrocute and Press the Attack kind of suck on her, youd have to start with a longsword to really tap into that power, otherwise youre just plain better off using Aftershock. And since Leona starts relic shield, Leona runs aftershock. If there were a support item that gave AD so that her Adaptive damage would shift to AD, it might be different.

Press the attack does had more merit then electrocute at least. She's almost guaranteed to proc it every time she engages and her w gives her a ton of armor and mr and a decent explosion afterwards. More importantly, it complements her passive and further buffs the damage her adc does. The only downside is that the precision tree doesn't offer a lot of late-game stats a tank would prefer. But if we are talking early to mid game, there is a lot of merit to grabbing it over aftershock.

There really isn't. Aftershock is more damage, and allows you to tower dive. Trust me I was a Leona 1trick for years =P.

Runes reforged made me abandon her as my main. I don't like being forced to play her as a aftershock tank in 100% of all scenarios. Press the Attack and Electrocute just make her awful in comparison to her aftershock version no matter what the matchup is.

I like press the attack because it goes well with her passive and gives her a strong early game, plus the increased tenacity and heals per takedown that come with the precision tree are nice too. But that comes at the price of a weaker late game. Aftershock's strength comes in the late game, thanks to it scaling off of bonus hp and tank stats. But that SHOULD come at a weak early game. As of this moment, that isn't the case.

Right now, you're probably right. Aftershock is better 100% of the time, but as someone who went through the age of thunderlords can attest, this isn't going to be forever. I fully expect aftershock to get nerfed to encourage the other branches in the resolve tree.

As a side note, Leona was my first mastery 7 and a very close favorite so I an't exactly blind either.

Often in teamfights you're trying to kill their tank fast so you can head to the backline because it's not like you can just waltz through a Galio. If the support is one of these tanks, then they're going down too.

Also since tank supports are building resistances and health, you'll scale better with aftershock than electrocute.

Because aftershock gives comparable damage while being unkillable while also not requiring 3 hits to proc

Press the attack works pretty good too, and it grants a % damage boost to your adc. If your adc is running lethal tempo or fleet footwork, that's pretty nice. Though the attack speed definitely isn't the best
