Just revert Ryze - even if I get fed in his current form I can't do anything and I get one shot

Like what is this? It's always a great joke when the boards gets flooded by Shaco community about how Shaco "sucks right now" how they gutted him but those people that are complaining have incredibly high win rates on the champion. Shaco has great influence early game and late game, even if you cant one shot anyone.

My first point is that assassins right now have 2 very big ways to influence the game. First, one shot the carry or anyone for that matter after the incessant amount of assassins buffs. Second, split push if all fails. This is my biggest quarrel with assassins. I can stomp on my midlane assassin match up but late game when I am trying to team fight they just split push. If I go to deal with them they use assassin tools to escape. Shaco, Zed, Talon, they're all the fucking same thing. In this case, Shaco could split push then join the team fight and one shot me. .75s isn't fast enough for me to press Zhonyas but even if I did where would that put me? 2 seconds delayed death? But AD assassins get everything, nullifying orb, the lethality spell shield item, Maw. What do mages get to deal with assassins? Zhonyas. A 2 second fucking stasis that delays your death. "X shouldn't be out of place" I am UNDER MY WEAK ASS TOWER THAT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING. AD assassins specifically have so many ways to deal with mages.

My second and main point is that Ryze just needs to be reworked or reverted I really don't give a shit anymore. Just revert the champion. Rooting Yi, Akali, Irelia for .75s literally doesn't do anything. Merc treads decrease root to .5 and I can't extended root unless I am willing to give up damage. Is this literally the only way to balance the root problem that s5 Ryze had? Next, E and empowered E are probably the most frustrating thing about Ryze aside from R. If I want to double E at rank 1 that means I have to be willing to spend 120 mana. Want to know how much 120 mana is? Max rank Kog'maw E, Darius R, Warwick R. 120 mana is 20% of Ryze's mana at level 1 with Sapphire Crystal start. And that is just to try to clear the first wave. Ryze's R is straight bull shit. I rarely use it for solo Q, can't use it like assassins to to escape, can't Zhonyas anymore because that was "broken", has no level 6,11,16 power spike, my team doesnt' know how to coordinate with it, and in this current damage meta it is completely useless. While other champions spike at 6, Ryze doesn't. Ryze doesn't really spike at any point in the game. It is just this slow, gruesome increase in power while everything has these bursts. Old Ryze was sustained consistent damage and I really don't know what current Ryze is. If people's issue was with Ryze W, then just fucking fix the W to something else instead of changing literally everything besides W.

**This is why the rework team did a trash job at current Ryze, they didn't listen to the community and made an LCS champion that isn't even pick/banned/contested in the LCS anymore **

Doesn't ryze have low base damage but very good scaling?

Now I feel like dissecting this champion.

(Don't worry, riot already put him on morphine)

He scales with mana and AP but has extremely high mana costs that make laning a chore

Ryze isn't bad, he's just out of the meta at the moment. He really doesn't need a change, the meta does.

I don't get any time to cast spells anymore.

I don't get any time to cast spells anymore.

That doesn't mean his spells suddenly have cast times, it just means the current meta is stupidly high burst that Ryze simply can't compete with. Many mages are feeling the same pain right now, but for most it really is just the meta being champions they weren't designed to do well against. Those that the WERE designed to do well against are barely played. It's the same reason Kassadin and Galio are in such a bad spot right now.

The mages that need buffs/reworks/reverts etc are those mages that WERE designed to deal with these hypermobile hypercarries but can't. Champions like Lissandra and Malzahar that lose to or go even with most mages, but were always meant to destroy assassins etc. Currently they should be an instant counter to the new meta, but the new meta only exists because those two and champions like them are in such a bad place right now. If riot fixes them, then their counters will become relevant again, and their counters counters will come back as well and so on. Until then, Ryze like most mages will have to enjoy sitting with Malzahar in the void. But hey, at least there's plenty of exotic wildlife to observe! xD

As much as I'd like to agree with you that the meta is the issue I really can't. Riot purposely nerfed Malzahar, is taking 6 months to give Lissandra a different passive, repeatedly dumpster-ing Ryze. It isn't only that the champions they counter are good but that they are intrinsically very bad. Take Ryze main Syte for example. The dude has 800 games on Ryze in D5 but is barely at a 51% win rate. Now, lets take BoxBox Riven, Riven being also out of the meta, is at a 56% win rate in 350 games.

Riven - Snowbally hypermobile hypercarry Ryze - Scaling medium range AP mage

Out of those two which do you feel would fit best in the current meta?

Yes Ryze, Malz and Lissandra have taken so HEAVY changes/nerfs but that doesn't mean they are all the same. Malzahar has been changed without need and then nerfed so many times to balance those changes he can no longer beat those that he is MEANT to counter, and therefore they really just need to revert him and give up

Ryze they STILL haven't found a good balance for. Every time he's good, he's REALLY good, and every time he's bad, he's REALLY bad. The most recent rendition of him was the most successful yet and I honestly feel if he was up against those he was designed to beat he'd be fine, but currently the only champions being played are his counters. So he is struggling.

Lissandra is in a similar state to Malz. She'd MEANT to deal with hypermobile hypercarries, but be punished by long range poke mages. Currently she should be in her element, yet instead she is unable to compete. Changing her passive is unlikely to improve this unless they let CertainT do it so she can get +50% bonus AP and a shield that only has a 4 second CD, scales of 30% AP, and when broken resets all of her CD's. Short of that, changing her passive won't fix her anymore then changing Malzahars passive will fix his ult and terrible base damage on E and Q. Lissandra needs buffs to most of her kit AND passive change. Like Malzahar she needs to be able to have someone like Yasuo or Zed come in on her and be able to CC and burst them down. Until they can do that, they won't counter hypermobile hypercarries, and therefore midlane/the meta will remain in it's current state.

Ryze will come back into his own when the meta changes, though they may need to look at his mana much like Azir.

Isn't RoA core on Ryze? That may have provided some survivability if that's the case.

Actually just took a better look at that picture; Stormrazor and Duskblade is insane alone, but how did Shaco's Hallucinate clone deal that much as well?

RoA providing 25HP per spell cast wouldn't have done anything. RoA has been really bad for quite some time. In my opinion RoA was core on old Ryze with the synergy of the life steal, mana scaling, HP and old Ryze R. But now it is just a burden when everything scales much faster and doesn't give Ryze time to scale. Plus its expensive and the path is undesirable.
