Even in flex q when you get on a win streak = loss streak.

Won 4 games in a row in flex q, then literally next 4 games I get these players. 3 of them were really INT-ing. This is the reason I stopped playing solo q, I was tired of the coin flip bot lane and wins loss streaks... but can't escape it even in flex q. Like are you serious ? 4 wins then 4 literally the worst games I've had in a while... I mean, I'm sorry I won few times. lol I know a lot of people that go on win streaks to masters promos and such then drop to d3-d4 by unwinnable games, same as me from d1 to d3. But hey, it's a team game amirite. It's a coin flip game right now. Even watching scarra right now, dudes on a losing streak, d3 0 lp lol. voyboy went from challenger 400 to d3, they're just bad I guess. I can't even watch anyone else since they're all playing fortnite. lol Keep pushing this shit rito, it's working out great.

EDIT: forgot to say the next wonderful thing of rito ranked system. I like how I still have a 56% win rate in d3, but lose more lp than I gain, because I lost series back to d2 like 5 times, since I gotta have a 3-4 games win streak to get into series, then of course, I lose the series, can't have those win streaks boys. then you fuck up your mmr and now you're stuck. btw I got from plat 1 to d5 with a 7 games win streak and then guess how many I lost in a row ? Same thing from d4 to d3.

what I been saying for years. it's a result of the shitty MMR system pulling you back because it thinks you're less skilled so it gives you shitty teammates or something and stacks the odds against you. because if you can win with competent teammates you can surely win when everyone else is feeding the yi 10/0 before the krugs have even spawned. it's only natural. the wins go up and down on a rubber band dragging the MMR number slowly ever so slowly after it to pad out the climb as much as possible.

Its a modified Elo system. It does not need extra steps to pad it out. It takes some 200-400 games to get semi accurate read on a player. It seems fairly functional after 100 matches.

So its already a huge time sink when working as intended to a level most players wont achieve. Ideally it should put higher # of game players into matches with similar # game players to create matches that are more stable, I don't know if it does this or not, I doubt it.

Issues more about the # of players and grossly varying skill levels who don't have enough games played to be accurately placed getting treated with the same value as accurately placed players.

Possibly its time to Adjust the winstreak loss streak MMR adjustment fourmulas to be less dramatic or work off win%s and not streaks, or for a harder reset, and to start putting people in their first placement games in even lower elo matches. It might be good to also lower the MMR set of placements.

Of course if you feel like any of the above is correct or a good idea for the ranked experience I wish to point out that literally every one of them would "pad out the climb"

Seriously, no reason to force 50% when it will get there naturally unless your trying to reduce the # of games people play. No reason to punish win streaks, Running into players outside your skill will push you back down on its own. You don't need to rig matches for this, and the effort and time to make an algorithm and also have matchmaker look for trash folks to FK individual players over is insane. Because it cant be just you, just your account. It has to apply to everybody and each game and look to rig every match somewhat, that's a lot of variables many of which are entirely uncontrollable by riot as they related directly to player decisions.

I struggle to understand this forced 50% win rate theory it feels like the new Elo hell to me. It would accomplish the same goal left alone If it works as intended and when riot says this they are liars? Literally every competitive Moba/teamgame out here I did a search for has this FORCED 50%. OW Dota 2 Smite HotS all have threads ranting about being dicked over by matchmaker rigging teams to make it a foced win%. They use different systems then riot, hell some ever have a skill adjustment which many propose as the solution to LoL matchmaking and we still see "forced 50% Fuck this Dev and its BS matchmaker!"

Its just the industry standard for competitive team games to rig matches? Even the ones with a completely different business models then riot? cant be greedy others don't run the same way Lol does. Cant be to pad matches, it already requires a large sample size to work ELO for team games. Cant be Exclusive to riot if the same issue pops up on other games.

Stop acting like riot or matchmaker are intentionally malicious, its misleading and any reasonable logical approach shows this is not the case. Look, its not unreasonable to state that as win streaks = loss streaks for many many players perhaps its time to look at the MMR adjustment for streaks. If people go up and down to rapidly because consecutive games outcomes start overcompensating the MMR changes that's an issue and would negatively affect almost every player when they are close to their assigned mmr and true skill.
But making that change would infact pad out games, lower MMR adjustments requires more Games to climb. Look at the problem realistically don't latch on to some trending excuse. Consider what happens, why, look for solutions.

Otherwise hey just say "I'm in elo hell!"

If you disagree with me I encourage you to select specifics so we might have a discussion. I will be online again in about 7 hours and am happy to respond to any one who takes the time to interact with me.

Tldr. Forced 50% is meaningless because all it accomplishes is the end result of the system working as intended. Don't need to pad games when it takes 100s to place accurately on its own. Theory of forced 50% is not exclusive to riot, other games boards complain about this as well. For it to be greed requires an industry standard to be greed. Different profit modeled companies encounter same problem with competitive matchmaker. Punishing individual players is labor intensive to accomplish something unnecessary. Skill statistics affecting mmr growth have been done and those games also are also "forced 50%" This will not solve the issue. Win streak and loss streak extra MMR adjustments may be overturned creating rubber band effects in a larger range of MMR then is healthy. Difficult to judge with out internal data

i'm not insinuating any insidious institution of inclining the climb to increase the inclement grind through imperfect means. I'm just calling what I see. what happens when I get win streaks is not I get placed against higher skilled players because the mmr system hasn't caught up with my new elo and rank, it's stayed stuck and I'd have to consistently stay up in the new elo to convince it I deserve to be there.

What I often see is I get allies that make me say "how the hell are you in the same division as me?" suddenly they can't dodge any skillshots, they make ridiculous baron calls, and they stand there backing right in front of a dying ally rather than helping out and going for the kill they could very clearly get. the map awareness decreases, the stress of keeping allies alive increases, and I can never seem to keep people alive when they mistake me staying behind to keep the enemy team from chasing for a bit for safety to back right next to me and not even worry that I can't protect them so near. also nobody grabs my lanterns anymore. nobody. It makes me very sad.

Then I lose enough and I start running into teammates that I don't need to worry that they'll feed 0/6 before herald can utter its first sneeze. I get allies that actively assist me in doing dragon and can coordinate with me when I go for a risky flash ult. I'm able to walk deeper into the jungle to ward without wondering if my adc will be alive and well when I get back. the enemies also get tougher to beat, they invade early levels way more often and my jungler struggles more to farm so I need to help him out. but he also helps me out in lanes and always seems to be there to gank when we need it.

Few questions Amet. May I have permission to look at your match history and comment on it. If yes, Is this your main account that you play ranked on.

Also, what do you consider a Streak, how many games exactly. Personally for myself I usually look with a view of 100+ potential games. A streak for me would be 10+ consecutive game, id understand if some one considered anything over 6 a streak. 2-5 is just to small a sample size to remove some of the RNG you can get in lol

I may have at times been unkind to folks under the assumption their "streak" is a statically significant amount of games but it seems like some folks consider 3 games a streak.

like 4 or 5 to have the same outcome in a row is pretty statistically suspicious. like especially that it happens so often rather than w/l/w/w/l/w/l/l/w/l/w/l/l/w/w/w/l/w/l/ you get streaks of w/w/w/l/l/w/l/l/l/l/l/w/w/w/l/l/w/w/w/w/l/l/l/l/ I still wish mmr for normals and ranked could be consolidated in some way so I could go from playing in normals against any number of players to stuck in bronze ("stuck") playing with bronze because I don't really play ranked all that much or care about progressing.

Kai Guy1 votes

So tell me, can you look at this and find some streaks? https://www.random.org/coins/?num=100&cur=60-usd.0025c-pa

That's 50/50 and theres a few parts the distribution of streaks are larger then your second example. You need to look at a larger sample size for what you consider a streak.

Edit. Flipped it again. Streak of 7 tails, two streaks of 8 heads. more flips

Edit 2. No need to clarify why your in bronze. People seem to forget league should be about fun. If you don't enjoy competitive ladder its no black mark on you as a player. ITS OK TO ENJOY THE GAME. and fuck elo shame. Your experiences are still valid. The meta is not the same across mmrs and I really hope that the player base would get that one day. Consolidating the MMR would likely just force normal to adopt the same WIN OR GTFO mentality we see in ranked.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

they don't gotta be the same mmr. I just wish that after playing normals for a while I could carry that mmr into placement games of ranked rather than starting from scratch.

Kai Guy1 votes

Well... you play ranked for a single season and you never really start from scratch. Its a soft reset.

Honestly I have been having similar ranked games. One game I'll stomp and go 20 1 15, and then next game, I get the most boosted teammates possible, and mostly fail to out carry the fed enemy team 4 man ganking me bottom. I did get a 1v5 quadra kill, and stole baron as twitch once, which carried my 0 11 lanes to victory, but that only happens once in a blue moon. Most of the time enemy team is so fed they can afford to drop a couple pink wards for me, while they baron.

Kai Guy1 votes

So Wes, how many consecutive games does it take for you to consider it a streak?

Sinlaire1 votes

for most players, 3-4. For Rito's MMR system. 1-2. maybe even 0 on a good day to start things off right.

Kai Guy1 votes

3-4 is not remotely enough games for a streak. Before the client update for me a streak was when I filled my entire match history with wins. That's just not a number of games remotely relevant.

Sinlaire1 votes

ok. if you went to a casino and played Black Jack. statistaically the highest percent chance for a player to come out with money from a casino. You go All In on your hand and win. You do that 3-4 times.

at 3 win yous have 800% of the cash you started with. At 4 wins you have 1600% of the cash you started with.

would having 1600% of your starting cash not be considered a considerable enough win streak to cash out and go home on?

Riot matches games based on a rough 50% chance to win. if that chance stays the same through all games played your chances of having won 3 times in a row statistically is 12.5%. 4 times is 6.25%. Winning until you page is full requires roughly 8 to 10 wins. the chance of 8 wins in a row is ~.37% and ~.09% for 10.

Now i really don't know about you, but i think a shot as low as 6.25% sounds pretty damningly low to start and thats only at 4 wins. If you think you need a filled match history (~.37% chance or lower) then why are you playing League and not in Vegas if you're shooting for luck like that?

Kai Guy1 votes

Sorry but no, that's just not relevant. The gains and losses for each win are not comparable to your black jack. You don't lose 100% of mmr on a loss, you do not double your gains on a win. 4 games is not a good number to judge lol on, ELO sytems are rough for team games, even when you start accounting for this and make some modifications to account for this and have a modified elo for team game algorithm your still looking at something like 200-400 games required to get to a very close range of some ones assigned mmr to actual mmr, and the closer you get the more games required.so your not getting 1600% your cash, its unrelated.

The odds of a 4 streak when dealing with 50% in 200 games is huge and note to really get to that you need a good number of games to balance out the system not having an accurate grasp of your mmr unless it got lucky.

I have filled my match history with wins on several occasions. Because its really not a 50% odds of a win when I am not accurately placed. My teams odds of a win go up grossly when I'm undervalued by the system. I make a point to avoid smurfing but I have done it on a few occasions to shut up my friends about "elo hell" when they refuse to address their mistakes after asking me for help. My win rates are gross, its not fair to the people who are in that mmr because it represents their skill, and I don't enjoy it because its not helping me improve as a player. So yea, if I could go to vegas when I have something like a 85% or 90% odds of winning any game I play hell yes I'm down. As it is, they use law of large numbers well so my odds are never going to be even 50/50.

Odds of getting 7 heads in a row out of 150? over 40%. Odds of 2 people shareing a birthday in a room? 50% at just 23 people, 99% at 70.

Account for the total # of games please, don't separate a single streak out and calculate off the odds of that happening separate from your total # of games. Here random coin flip generator I'm going to be spamming across the boards for some time Go ahead, try to flip this to the point you don't see a streak of 4 or higher heads/tails. This is just the # of games required for a vet badge, not even what's a good estimate for a workably accurate individual ELO for team system.

Just stop playing ranked, it's honestly pointless. Yeah you get to play against and with better players, but it's so damn frustrating when you have no power over a feeding player and you mine as well call it game. Also, why LoL isn't fun in general unless you have good friends that play consistently. This game is more dice roll than skill, and that's what kills it.

Matchmaking is working as intended, there's no forced win ratio and every game is just the most balanced possibile :D

I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not honestly. I'd wish that were true when I get a full team of Gold 3 average MMR players versus a Plat 5 average MMR enemy team in ranked only to say that's matchmaking making it fair.

I'm at the point where I think before you do placements you should have to tick a box in norms that says "I'm getting super cereal about dis" and you have to play norms like it's ranked to get your MMR read before you even go into ranked.

Thank you a lot for this topic.

Some players were smart to state in these boards that diamond players or master,do not actually have any problem with the matchmaking or ranked system itself.

Now they got their answer.

Matchmaking has always been like this, and it was alright back then, you know why?

The game was more solo oriented (still a team game, but 1 player could hard carry), basically the better player on the game had legit a good chance to win most of the time, regardless of team mates.

Btw im not saying every game was winnable, even in season 1/2 there were unwinnable games, but the difference is that those games were far, far less common and you as a single player had a feeling of actually having better control on the game, if you played well enough to deserve it of course.

With years riot made more and more changes to kill solo carrying and enforce team play, which in turn means that instead of the team with the best player winning, its the team with the worst one that loses, and turned tons of games who would otherwise be "carriable" into "auto loss/uncarriable", game pacing changes and riot endorsement on early TEAM WIDE snowball (worst thing to happen to the game imo) coupled with tons of fall back mechanics means that even if you're stomping lane you can never get far ahead enough as a single player to make up for the rest of your team and you'll lose in 15 minutes to a 5 man deathball.

Thats why it feels so many games are coin flips now the higher elo you get, its kind of sad the game will never be as good as it was back then, but yeah current matchmaking algorithms are quite outdated for how the game works nowdays, or maybe they should just go back into the solo carry playstyle and nerf down the whole "team game everything" aspect.
