Does anyone else feel Yi still is really strong despite the nerf?

I know that recently his E was changed to be bonus AD scaling but that does not seem (to me at least) to have had much of an impact on his ability to deal large amounts of damage while building relatively defensive focused builds. I feel that that on the scale of brokenness, he has dropped from extremely to very, but since he still deals true damage, building AD isn't mandatory to deal damage, especially since devourer and his passive both act as double procs of on-hits which stack on the fourth.

His issue in my opinion is that his kit allows him abuse on-hits with multiple attacks happening at the same time. This makes scaling AD less of a concern since true damage is an on hit which doubles with devourer and his passive. In one cycle of his passive he basic attacks 5 time and deals on-hits 7 times. Without counting any bonus AD, that is 280 true damage. Any additional cycles are only requiring 3 basics to get the passive, meaning 4 normal hits and 6 on-hits.

Because his kit is also built to counter kiting (R makes him impervious to slows and increases his movement speed and Q is a gap closer), it is not hard to get chase and get many attacks off in a short time frame. The only thing in his way is hard cc. But a well versed Yi can dodge some cc with his Q timing. And if he is tanky, he can usually just wait out the rest and then resume the attack without hinderance.

Maybe if you removed his E's base damage or removed his ability (or just from the game itself) to double hit true damage, since there is no way to properly itemize against that besides flat out health, which tends to not come with damage in high quantities. Another possible option would be to make his W scale health, making rageblade's bonus AP useless for him to heal off of. Another could be to remove the on-hit effect of his passive and just treat the extra hit as a basic thus limiting his abuse of on-hits to an extent. Or let Yi be, and rework how sated devourer interacts with true damage, rageblade and other on-hits.

Yi is strong because sated is blatantly overpowered and offers too much early power for a scaling item strong.

Just look what happened to Kindred's win rate when people started building that on them instead of warrior.

Well yeah. It's obvious that he is still strong.

Riot never intended to remove or gut defensive builds on Master Yi. They just wanted to weaken it and encourage him to build more offensively.

But he isn't building any differenty. He has not changed one bit as a result of the nerf. I am aware that the intention was more to "force" him to build more offensively that to reduce his damage output, but the way they did that did not accomplish that goal. True damage is true damage, more or less it is going to hurt. What I was implying was to make him build more offensively to cover for the lowered amounts of on-hit bonus damage he currently has.

The reason why this 'nerf' didn't work at all is because the 'nerf' didn't tackle any real issues on the champion (aka his entire ult in a nutshell). Take a minute, look at his ult, come back and try to tell me that shit is not broken.

It isn't broken as is, but it gets broken when you put it on a basic attack only champion like Yi who deals true damage

Olaf 's is better cause you're immune to all CC and not just slows.

alpha strike scales too well with attack speed and onhit, removing meaningful time windows for counterattacks. lategame, when its cooldown is non-existent, he is untargetable more often than he is not.

that is yi's problem. his weakness is supposed to be burst damage. his q and sometimes his w negate burst damage. he does not need damage nerfs. he needs to have more than a pseudo-weakness.

Sounds similar idea my point, remove his ability to abuse on-hit effects and the damage falls off a bit so you can hit him more, while yours is (correct me if i'm wrong) keeping his damage but remove his ability to become untargetable or tanky (his w) so you can burst him down. Both aim to be able to have more time to damage Yi.

He'll always be strong as long as Sated Devourer exists. Thats the problem, not Yi himself, but that item that happens to make a bunch of other champions also broken.

Well, he's a hyper carry.

JavelinJoe1 votes

Hyper carries are not supposed to deal true damage each basic. What other hyper carry does?

Jaj2ed1 votes

Vayne basically. And he only does true damage for 5 seconds. It's an ability.

JavelinJoe1 votes

Vayne needs to land 3 consecutive shots on the same target where yi, every attack is deals true. Second Vayne can't make herself untargetable and immune to slows. And before you say her ult makes her invisible, all you need is 1 pink ward and that isn't an issue.

He does not need more than a few (<5) seconds to kill a target and get the 70% cdr on all his abilities(read ult passive).

I didn't know cc was a thing.

Just keep QQ'ing.

Mentioned it in the post that he can dodge cc, try reading it next time. Vayne can't become untargetable so CC works on her more.
