Inb4 the downvotes im just gonna call this out A champion that can outsustain any lane in the game just by last hitting, harasses you for free by last hitting and has true damage on top of an aoe knockup and 2 second silence? Oh yeah, forgot to mention hes one of the tankiest champs in the game?

Wheres the counterplay to this?

Low mobility+AoE spells=>pushing lane=>susceptible to gank Delayed knock ups High mama costs

It sure looks like Chogath is OP

Slow as hell, the creep block is unreal, his (extremely mana expensive) skillshots are hard to hit, if he dies he needs to wait at minimum 1:30 to get his tankiness back up, if he feasted immediately, and if he feasts you it delays him even more.

The reason Cho sees bans nowadays is not top lane Cho nor jungle Cho, which are both reasonably powerful.

No, the reason Cho sees bans lies in the mid lane, where he is one of the more powerful picks currently. His main power there lies in him countering assassins, between his high health pool, silence and strong counterburst if you move in onto him. Also, he works decently against poke-based champions, due to his sustain.

However, there are quite a few things you can use against Cho'Gath, once you learn about his downsides:

1st, and most importantly: Stay mobile. Dodge the Ruptures. They hurt. In more than one way.

2nd, and this is the same more top and mid Cho: Any Cho lane is more like a farm lane than a kill lane. If you have the chance, use a champion that scales well with lots of farm, like Karthus (just don't channel Requiem in plain sight, please) or Anivia (bring MS quints and 3 points in the utility MS). Or use a champion that has equal or even higher sustain than Cho, i.e. Morgana (also, doesn't get as screwed by Rupture). Third possibility is a tank-buster mage, like Malzahar (don't use ult if Rupture is below you) or Brand.

3rd possibilty is to use a non-traditional mid laner. Like Tryndamere.

4th, don't try to kill him alone.

5th: Don't play Katarina .

Lost lane to a Cho'gath as Jax; a champion with poor early game and little harass. Cho'gath builds tanky items with some AP damage (Rod of Ages, Frozen Heart and Zonyas) Complains that they can't burst down a tank

There's a lot of counterplay to it. You can dodge his Q relatively easily, and his ultimate is a fair amount of his damage. He pushes the wave, and doesn't have any engage without his Q hitting you, while having no mobility to escape from a successful gank or to be forgiving of poor positioning. To be fair, though, his harass with his W, while short ranged, can be annoying as hell to play against.

In addition to what other people have said, you stated that he harrasses you via alst hitting, but you neglected to mention that he also pushes down the lane by doing so, since the spikes don't discriminate.

He can be strong if he hits what he needs to hit, but otherwise won't do that much, you're just angry he nom'd you in a game or something. Or what, are you one of these godlike players who claim to be able to land 100% of his ruptures?

  1. Dodge Rupture. If anything will help you against Cho'Gath, it's this. It's not difficult— simply change directions while running or when you hear/see the animation begin. A good Cho will abuse his Q if you're too slow to react.
  2. Commit to killing Cho'Gath or commit to farming. Cho capitalizes on his sustain, but he's not tanky without any items. If you only half-assedly fight him, he's going to heal back up while slowly whittling you down. He's not hard to kill (his only defensive mechanism is his Q); just don't stop pressuring him until he leaves or dies. If you don't think you have the damage to kill him early on, just farm. He might try to Q you now and then or spam his W, but Cho's trades rely on you getting close, getting knocked up + slowed by Rupture, and then getting beaten up by minions and Cho's autoattacks as you retreat. If you simply commit to farming and dodging Rupture, you get an easy farm lane.
  3. % health damage is your friend.
  4. Ranged champions (especially ones with mobility for dodging Rupture) can ruin Cho'Gath's day. He can't get to them at all without landing his Q. If you really want to make a Cho player cry, learn top lane Vayne and just Tumble out of Rupture while eating away at Cho's health with your W.
  5. Some champions do have the ability to outsustain (or at least compete with) Cho'Gath. Trundle has the speed to dodge Rupture while he's in his Frozen Domain, and he can easily out-trade Cho if he does dodge those Ruptures. Gragas can simply farm with his Q if all else fails, but he also has good health sustain because of his passive + his E is a get-out-of-Rupture-free card. Galio can heal by shielding himself and standing in front of the minions Cho'Gath autoattacks, plus he can practically ignore Cho'Gath entirely (okay he can't ignore Feast, but Cho can't kill you from 100% with just his ultimate, and you'll be at 100% almost all of the time if you play Galio correctly) because of his tendency to build MR.

building health to counter true damage you can dodge the knockup you can stay out of range of the silence if you're a caster and kite him and you can build item 3153 item 3151 to counter his health stacking.

Vayne

Maybe a nerf, but a rework? No no.

His kit is quite healthy, actually, possessing good strength and exploitable weaknesses.

GaleWinUnleashed4/15/2015, 10:17:39 PM1 votes

Zero mobility, all reliable spells are short-range, only long-range spell is extremely telegraphed.

Is he strong? Yes, always has been. But he's not short of counterplay, particularly early in the game before he gets tanky.
