Buddy when I talk smack about riot it's because of love for this game, not because imma fucking troll that will leave the game once I've gotten what I wanted. Also Riot being more robotic in their response and only taking to happy replies is a sign of weakness. I am not saying that they should argue with trolls but at least should that they can be assertive and not be afraid to telling some people off in an mature but stern manner like I've see some rioters do a few times in the past.

The issue is not so much engagement as it is their faux mature and understanding attitude as I find that disingenuous and is just a means to more people to give them sympathy and "love" such an approach does not command respect but delays dealing with urgent issues in the game and giving an honest estimate of what is to come and what is not.

When players call rioters shit repeatedly it isn't love for the game. Don't feel attacked if you don't assault rioters daily. And if you do then you are a piece of shit. That's just the bottom line of that

Kek, but really the thing is that I don't have to talk smack to Riot all the time. The issue comes from a bad change in attitude I at least have the balls to admit i can be an asshole unlike most people at see as an excuse to double down on their agenda be it shit talking or defending riot.

When companies become "robotic" they corrupt the concept of praise and respect they get making into a game to gain the most point to stroke their ego.

So at times it's good to think twice about the praise you give and wonder if it really is from your heart of hearts are it's just blind fanboyism.

You aren't unique among people who crucify Riot for their mistakes. Lots of people claim that they are aware that they are being a dick, but it is justified or necessary because, "well they haven't noticed anything else yet!" Which is not only false (they have noticed and interacted with discussions and complaints before), but it is also an idiotic reason.

This strategy of, "well nothing else worked yet so lets try throwing rocks at it," only works if you are a majority. Which you aren't. You've seen the news haven't you? When people among protesters decide to act violently towards authorities, discussion becomes impossible and the authorities usually just crack down on the rest of the protest in addition to just the violent dissenters. Don't be so forceful with your opinions, lest those opinions fall on deaf ears.

There are already established methods to communicate ideas to Rioters and to raise complaints about balance issues. The established methods are much more effective than your method of taking every mistake by Riot personally and attacking Riot as if they killed your dog.

Well I got what an wanted here. and exactly what I just said about doubling down on the defence of riot fanboying. I am sorry if I am not bring in sunshine and rainbows to this thread, that comes after the storm if you haven't gotten killed by it.

Also, you must be feeling so threatened by me using the words I do to make an analogy to violence and assuming that I am speaking for others. Nope, just speaking for myself and I am raising awareness of one issue that I see in the fanbase and that is their too much of one extreme, well at least here on the boards when it comes to positive or negative feels towards riot. So do me a favor and don't put words in my mouth.

And I am just someone that is pretty iff'ed over the opposite of being a flamer and trash talker of riot can that is being a half-honest fanboy that heaps praise over something that is they don't have as much love for as they claim and over exaggerate what their love.

If you like my Opinion, cool let's talk about what's good about it, what's bad and how we can improve on it. If you don't like it, criticise me on how is wrong and be respectful about it if I don't go too far but don't fucking assume I am being an asshole for the sake of it or that I am doing this for attention and not highlighting a legitimate concern. So if people listen, well that's a start, if they don't, I'll watch and see if I am right or wrong. If I am will admit it on the spot, of not. I will laugh over people foolishness on not listening.

And if nothing happens, well. Just gotta move on then, right?

I'm not entirely sure this is a parallel so correct me if I am wrong, and also my understanding is VERY limited, mostly based on my personal experiences, but it sounds a lot like a concept I am quite familiar with that has....unfortunate connotations.

The concept I am referring to is "gaman" a Japanese phrase/saying essentially meaning something along the lines of "endure, don't stick out, bend with the wind, don't complain, etc."

The reason why it's an issue is that gaman was and is so laced with the culture and the idea that you shouldn't voice your concerns, that the Japanese had been persecuted and they basically did very little to protest it. Additionally, the idea of gaman, from my understanding, is a contributor to the suicide rates in Japan, since there is a desire to not voice dissent. This can be harmful.

I agree that violent dissent is not the way to go. That's something I can definitely agree with. But I think it is also important to highlight that sometimes, standing firm does a lot more than just kind of passively mentioning something in hopes things will change. Voicing change, petitioning for it, and taking a stand is WORLDS different than flinging a bunch of insults around or mindless accusations.

If something needs to be changed for the better, or that is an opinion, that opinion should be presented with reasonable examples and suggestions. But it also should not be written off as "players not knowing what they are talking about" or "entitled players are whining". Such things tend to irritate those with actual concerns, and that can have a damaging effect on relations to come to either a change or compromise as well.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Gaman has absolutely nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about how to give criticism in a way that will get it heard. People who choose to give criticism by personally attacking Rioters are doing it wrong.

If they want to get their ideas heard they should try presenting those ideas in a calm and reasonable manner.

Then I agree with you. As I think I made clear in what I posted. Clear, calm, and concise arguments are definitely important tools for a discussion.

If you have an issue with the game, you can point it out without being a dick about it.
If you have to insult people to get your point across, it means you never had a strong point to begin with. So you're intentionally baiting people (or Rioters) into giving you an answer because you were unpleasant.

That's not how you ever want to start a discussion. It sounds to me like you need to stroke your own ego because if you can't at least be neutral in the way you address others, you never have anything of substance to share yet, the interaction with others is what you need so you decide to get it in a completely offensive way.

And seriously, do not tell me how to present my points or if they are weak because I know full well what I am talking about and why I am taking the approach that I have right now.

But I will admit I am baiting, why? Because I am testing people and so far it's been fail, fail and utter fail. To the point where I am beginning to be an asshole here less because I wanted to make justified point the sadly required me to be harsh and a dick to challenge people here on something that I want people to say out loud themselves to just fucking around for the lol's because I've lost some respect for people here because the lack of Cop on see the hints I've laid in my previous posts.

Tomoe Gozen2 votes

I don't care if you lost respect for people, it doesn't give you the right to insult anyone. If you want a discussion, be civil about it and don't attempt to provoke a response by being a dick. If you do, most of the people will avoid your comment even if you made a solid point because you have no idea how to present it in a way it's at least a good read.

I only responded to your post because i wanted to let you know why your attitude mostly falls on deaf ears and i usually just ignore the same posts and downvote if necessary before moving on.

Deaf ear? what are you smoking, HAHAHA, no seriously. I am legitimately laughing over this, What I have done has gotten a shitload of attention and I didn't intend for it to happen, I just thought that people would do say you say, downvote and go but this has created a lot more dialogue that it should have done.

But since you want me be polite about this allow me to explain why I did what I did and I am gonna say it in long words.

I say what I said because I find some kinds of praise to be disastrous and to me as a more blunt and critical person call it half-bullshit and overvalued. And I said it as an asshole because I knew people would respond this way, being more willing to take offence to harsh words and insult than see the points and well-intentioned words of concern how riot has been behaving during S7 and how I saw such praise as misguided.

So when I was mocking and condescending while weaving in some valid points, being willing to admit my mistakes and blatantly showing I was not doing it would of malicious intent but prove a point. And that is when people defend or attack riot, criticizing or mocking them for an attack that is unjustified or defence they don't deserve, they will double down and attack that person. Are the fanboys any different from the shittalkers of RIot? I don't think so because they are both ignorant on one critical point: Loyalty, even if praisers sugarcoat it, they don't have legit loyalty to the game and just treat rioter like an object of their affection and putting them on a pedestal. because of some people need to be submissive to something and be an obstacle for debate, discussions and criticisms by barring any form of negativity , ironically becoming just like trolls in that regard.

Worse of all, people are too damn emotional and that was the EXACT reason I had to be an asshole. I must say I got big results, as it was intended to see if people could deflect an assholian attitude with constructive criticism or maintain a friendly attitude in spite of it. instead I see people getting defensive and offended too damn easy. I understand insults are bad and can piss people off (that fact being obvious as fuck) but if people don't have a thick skin or conviction in their positivity then I am sorry, I will not apologize on the principle that people are not willing see past insult, forgive or keep calm in order to have a proper dialogue in the forums.

Even worse I got quite a bit of attention from talking smack here and I got people hook line and sinker and in spite of you and others saying the people wouldn't listen if i am being an ass about making my points and people failed and that is properly why the forums is such a cesspool. Because people value their feeling than objective points and by being an ass, especially on a positive thread and then raise some hell their instead of it being shut down shows that people can't make the hard choice and still be nice before losing their temper or get offended. When you focus on the negative, things will become negative.

And personally, I love the game damn much and I criticise Riot because they can do better and I have faith in them as Rioter to really do good and I wouldn't be this harsh if I didn't care because I would have just left and nothing would have happened. Because I have made my point clear and the proof is in the pudding. So take it or leave it My point stands.

And for those that did get it allow me to say it in bold: I FUCKING LOVE LEAUGE AND EVEN IF I GIVE SHIT TO THE DEV'S I STILL RESPECT THEM. SO RIOT EVEN IF YOU MAKE SOME FUCKED UPS BUT I LOVE THIS GAME AND I AM GLAD TO PLAY IT.

Sorry for the melodrama.
Tomoe Gozen1 votes

but if people don't have a thick skin or conviction in their positivity then I am sorry

Honestly, you're not the one here who's going to dictate what people can tolerate and just how much of it. Rioters rarely ever respond in a negative manner simply because the company policy is to never go out of line or else your attitude will surely be noticed by people and then some action is going to be taken against you.

So they either respond in a polite manner, or they don't. It's that simple. As far as your rather poor quality of bait for others goes, it's still shit if you have to resort to these tactics because you can't actually converse with others unless you're already ready to insult someone.

I love the game damn much and I criticise Riot

Criticism is one thing, insulting someone and then calling it "criticism" is another. That excuse won't fly anymore. You can love the game and be fair towards the people that are in charge of changing it. You don't have to be polite. You can be frustrated but the moment you aim your frustrations towards them, that's when you're crossing the line and things get personal. Many people don't seem to be aware the line even exists. And that's the problem with the boards.

Don't poke the bear for the sake of your crappy social experiment. You expect of people to read your presentation and read in between the lines and yet, the whole read you have prepped for them is so unappealing that no one wants to even bother. You are responsible for how you present yourself and how you present your opinions on the boards. If you can't see the fault in that (and that your crappy attitude can most of the times ruin it), don't try to blame others for failing to see reason, since you were the first one who threw it out the window because you weren't getting any results for being reasonable.

Negative attention will always attract more negative attention. There is no logic behind your "people should only care about the facts, not how i present them" attitude. You can't expect to get a respectful comment when your comment itself shows no respect towards others. You can't put a diamond a mountain of crap and say it's all worth a million dollars. A diamond is worth a million dollars but you still have to rummage through a mountain of shit to get to it and that's the part no one is looking forward to.

Putting that into perspective: If i have to read your comments and pick it apart word for word, ignore all the insults only to get to a sentence or two of actual issues you have with the game...why? If these two sentences were the only thing important, why couldn't you have started from that and opened a discussion from there instead?

#EDIT:

I've taken a look at the entire comment stack and it seems that every single person who was involved in responding to you (even me), passed your alleged "assholish" test. We've successfully deflected it and told you that your attitude is rather lacking, even if you had valid criticisms towards the game. I don't deny you've had to deal with the more assholish players that frequent these boards. We all did and still do on a daily basis. That's not going to change. But don't encourage the attitude further.

Boards are infamous for the whining and negative hyperbole regarding the state of the game, constantly. And no one of Rioters whined about it, it was an observation and absolute truth.

People need to take a chill pill and start producing actual discussions if we ever want to see more Rioters on the boards. No one wants to be in an overwhelmingly negative environment or even interact with such people because most of the times, no matter what they see, is mostly just perceived as negative again. So if the boards are not interested in actual discussions about the changes and always want to slam Rioters for whatever changes made to the game, you can do so even without having a target to aim for.

Perception is everything. And oh he whined about it. Go to Reddit. It is right there Lol.

And I would say the way Rioters treat and talk about the boards is the reason it has become hostile here. Riot owns a lot of responsibility for the state of the boards. And they do no favors trying not to fix it and just running to Reddit.

Tomoe Gozen5 votes

The boards themselves are a clusterfuck and mainly negative.
Rioters didn't make it that way, it's inhabited by cynical players. So, if someone from Riot says that they don't usually talk here because of this state, it's whining about it? Or should they get a tougher skin and just do it despite the negativity?

Again, no one wants to interact with such a person, let alone many people. They'd likely kick them out, wherever they are. Don't blame others for not wanting to be in an environment that constantly berates them for everything, even if the changes are good or bad. One thing is to offer genuine criticism, a completely other thing is to talk down on someone for whatever change League goes through, for no other reason than just because you can.

Cosnirak1 votes

Rioters didn't make it that way

Yes they did. Maybe not the ones posting on it now, but Riot's many year long mismanagement of the boards is a huge part of the problem. It's no excuse to treat individuals poorly, but as a whole this is very much Riot's mess. Even now the boards are mistreated and neglected in many ways. Props to the Rioters that come here and try to make things better, but Riot has a long way to go.

I don't think this is warranted.

Responding to the best of their ability is fine, but as of late many of their responses come off in a very condescending "we know what we're doing" manner instead of general acceptance. They are more argumentative and defensive than anything ever since the balance team came under fire not long ago.

Just because someone has a discussion with you doesn't mean that you're right and they should change their arguments to suit you.

MangelinaJolie3 votes

They don't discuss. They reply and move on, stating their views without any counterargument the majority of the time.

They are a business and representatives of a business. They should be receptive to criticism and suggestions, but the responses I'm referring to are not. They aren't even argumentative.

Again, receiving feedback doesn't mean they are going to act on it especially when the next post is likely to say the exact opposite of the previous one.
