vC48YNoGbJ5 votesDo you not think that the fact that you have to rush Zhonya's as your first item or else risk getting one-shot is a testament to his excessive power? You should have to build defensively only if you're behind in the early game.
If you have a 500 gold lead as an AP assassin and chunk him for 75% while he chunks you for 100% (which is often the case, I find), that means he's stronger than he should be. Especially considering that AD offers more sustained damage vs champions and objectives, so to be fair, AP units should chunk harder.
Needing Exhaust because he has a ton of damage with less than 2k gold is not an argument against his strength, but for it.

Exhaust wont save you in the lane phase. Barrier is a far better choice.
Rushing armor basically gives Zed a free lane. Sure, you can survive, but your midgame gets pretty delayed and he can still deny you CS due to his manaless poke since you haven't invested in any mana regen. Not saying buying armor is bad, just... that's what happens.
It's generally better to go 9 utility masteries over 9 defensive masteries if you're an AP mid versus zed. The biscuits and potion duration mastery will get you through the lane phase much better than the defensive mastery since pre-6 zed just pokes you down before going all in anyways and post 6 he still can't 100-0 you until he gets a few items.

reducing his Q damage is a nice idea and all, but if he's shoving the wave at the same time that he's poking you he's gaining a big advantage. it's better to stand off at an angle and just try to dodge the Q so that he has to choose between taking caster minions with his Q or harassing you instead.
exhaust won't save you pre6 because zed will poke you to half, shadow swap, ignite, and auto you for first blood. by the time exhaust becomes more useful than barrier versus zed, your team is grouping and you should have zhonyas anyways.
i didnt say rushing armor was a bad idea. i just said that there are downsides to getting armor rather than mana regen and it reflects in your ability to CS and trade in lane.

I still prefer picking a sustain bruiser against him, Zed players rarely know how to react.

SwapShadows1 votesIt is impossible for a Zed to kill you without his ultimate unless hes 10+ kills above you and you just joined the game 30 minutes late.
The only part of the game where zed does not need his ult for assassinations are late game, and thats if the enemy ADC/mid is alone, which they shouldn't
Sooko1 votesYou are acting like everyone is manaless vs Zed. We don't get to just rush a needlessly large item like you Mr. Flashy Energy Player. We have a resource. That blue bar called mana, which has hindered several mid laners quite painfully in the last few patches. And when that blue bar disappears, we don't get to keep destroying minions, and our auto-attacks, in most mage cases, stink badly for last-hitting.
And don't even get me started on how Zhonya's counters 97% of the game's ultimates, or the fact that you don't always get to know you are going against Zed to bring exhaust. He just has too many advantages in his kit compared to everyone else, who keeps getting nerfed and weakened, while all he has taken from him is a little attack speed.
