I used to look forward to champions being added in the game

until they all started getting mobility, % hp damage, true damage, boring kits, overloaded kits, troll ultimates, heals etc

as much as I hate annie i'd rather have a simple kit like hers on a new champion than what we currently get.

Vel'Koz, the last champion with a fine kit

so true, has clear strengths and very clear weaknesses and reasonable kit that fits very well.

I think vel koz is one of the only champs that fits with the "stack something 3 times"

TheI3igDaddy29 votes

Hint hint: Vel'Koz's kit is balanced because his has no mobility. Riot seems to never learn how to balance mobility into a champ's kit.

CaptainCandyazz11 votes

Because they get shit ideas from "pro players". These pro players ruined the game.

Biffolo1 votes

They made this game more interesting for a competitive sport.

TheI3igDaddy1 votes

It's not that they solely get the ideas from pro players, but they've observed one obvious thing about competitive play.

Mobility is king. Pro players will not play immobile champions unless they're overtuned for the current patch or just very strong in general.

ImSoFull1 votes

Riot always seem to add a shit ton of mobility or heal on these new rework and new champs.

Kaisha44 votes

Tahm's pretty solid. His ults a little weak, but his kit is unique, takes skill, and he doesn't have massive mobility.

kinglallak2 votes

I agree that tahms kit is fun and unique, rito did a good job with that one.

He still has the overused "hit a champion three times and..." mechanic.

ModAcademy Kayn5 votes

Except it doesn't do anything by itself. Has to be proc'd by an ability.

Sinister Mars2 votes

So tired of this. I'd like to see an upgrade to thornmail. Make it be the cost of two thornmails. Reverse lifesteal. Hit champ with said item three times, and he steals %health from you!

Uh so does Vel Koz.

Rek'sai is alright (except for her true damage), especially for being the most mobile champion in the game.

Voluug132 votes

Because they had to gut her to oblivion. Before the nerfs she had ridiculous damage, CC and mobility. Top'Sai was horrible to go against.

Dfenestrator27 votes

I agree and disagree with you.

I agree that it feels like certain design spaces (e.g. % max health damage, low-cooldown dashes) have been overused in the last while. I disagree with the implied statement that Riot's new champion designs are not good.

Do I wish some champions were less frustrating to play against? Yes. Could some champions be better if Riot emphasized their unique aspects and cut back on their miscellaneous power? Very likely. Could Riot's champion design be better than it currently is? Absolutely. Luckily, League is a living game that gets patched regularly.

While Riot isn't perfect (1000 rp never forget), I think their champion design and balance philosophy has matured quite a bit.

While Riot isnt perfect (1000rp never forget)?

That means?

That means?

A few years back, there was a major server hiccup that made the game completely unplayable for roughly 2 weeks, and many people ended up losing stuff from their accounts. Mastery pages got wiped for just about everyone but some people lost way more, the most prominent issue being that quite a few people had all their purchased runes and runepages completely wiped from their account . Eventually Rito sorted everything out and got people's data recovered properly (which took quite some time), and compensated about 10% of the players with 1000 RP (ostensibly the ones that lost their runepages and pretty much couldn't play properly until they were restored, though they weren't the only ones that got compensation) and the rest with absolutely nothing.

That awkward moment when understanding 1000 rp never forget makes you feel old :s

Agreed. Kindred seems to be the pinnacle of blandness. Just a mash of all their current design trends, all rolled up into one uninspired kit.

Paletongue3 votes

You know, that is the exact thought i had when Volibear was released. But he plays uniquely enough that no one has complained about his boring kit since

Yormaughm3 votes

I would be inclined to agree with you, and I kinda like Volibear (and hate playing against him) but I would say that people "complain" about him by simply never picking him in games. For the most part, there are simply other champs that do what he does better, and Riot has even admitted that (though it was a while ago and I don't have the link.)

mikemcparty2 votes

An "uninspired kit?" Are you fucking kidding? The shit I read on the boards is absolutely mind-blowing. You all wonder why Riot doesn't listen to you and this is why. They go with basic design principles and the kit is called boring, bland, or uninspired. They try to add new mechanics and they are called op, broken, or cancer. You realize that EVERY FUCKING CHAMP has similar abilities to champs that have been previously made? Don't you?

If you don't like the champion (keep in mind, it was revealed less than 24 hours ago and hasn't seen ANY testing on PBE), then don't play it. Simple as that. Riot can't please everyone.

Personally, I think Kindred is thematically awesome and has interesting aspects to the kit that other champions really didn't have before. The ult is very interesting and the synergy between skills is outstanding. The whole kit allows for interesting skill combinations.

you usually see people bitching about unbalance and overloaded kits. Numbers, counterplay. Crunch.

However, for this champion in particular, a LOT of people are calling it bland, uninspired, recycled, a waste of good champion concept instead of bitching about it's balance.

That is a sign that it is, indeed, a poorly designed champion, that people are getting tired of seeing the same shit on every kit.

If Riot is smart, they'll listen to use and hopefully, the next champ will NOT have 3AAstacks, a slow and a dash.

mikemcparty1 votes

Here is my issue, when Riot tries to implement new mechanics, people are so quick to call a champ overloaded or op because it is something they haven't played against before. Bard kit, yasuo kit in general, rek sai on release, and plenty of others and they get called "op" and "cancer." A slow and a dash are fine mechanics to have in the game. They can't continue to add random bullshit on to champions otherwise they have to release champs that counter them. Then, old champs are outdated and they have to do full-blown reworks.

It doesn't make any sense. There are over 100 champions. I'm sure there are a couple that are fun to play and balanced.

Edit: What I am saying is that, according to the boards, a champion is either overloaded or bland.

Inb4 downvotes, Can't we atleast try to give it a chance first before judging it? Like the reveal was made 3 hours ago.

Auryiel3 votes

Don't need to play the champ to know that it fails super hard to capture the thematic presented.

Wolf is a spell effect. What a waste.

Ralanr3 votes

To be fair, it was we the community that got stuck to the idea of a dual champ.

I like wolf. He could be a bit more interactive, but the dialogue between the two is fun. It shows more character than the lines a champion says to themselves.

They converse. That's awesome.

Maligaro Spike1 votes

riot never ever said she will be a champ like quinn or jayce, that's just a community idea

2Kawaii4Hawaii8 votes

I agree. Although instead of releasing all these great new champs cough broken on release cough with these exciting new mechanics cough ffs chill the hell out rito cough I'd rather them focus on actually balancing the gameplay. Kassadin is so unplayable it isn't even funny, 4 games in a row the bans were all 4 juggernauts, fiora, and annie. Youd think they'd stop doing this shit to us, where they release all these exciting new mechanics to stop us from realizing they need to work on a new client already. It's been 5 years and they're overloading the current client with constant patches and files upon files of updates. I can't even remember a champion that was balanced on release and didn't have to get hotfixed, or buffed/nerfed the very next patch. They keep making the same mistakes over and over again and not actually giving us what we want. -a new client -an actual tribunal system -a replay system -a sandbox mode -actual balance braught to the game instead of new champions or skins That's the problem with riot as a gaming company currently. They're all artists and gamers. Granted they're incredibly creative and come up with new things and ideas almost every day, but they also share the same weaknesses in that they're lazy whenever it comes to doing what needs to be done. Garen and darius didn't need the buffs, they were fine where they were with their individual weaknesses. Skarner needed a buff, but he didn't need_ this_. Mordekaiser needed a rework, not an overhaul on his current abilities making him overpowered. Fiora needed the rework, but they gave her way too much. Before fiora was a bully, but couldn't get out of anything. She could blow one or two people up and then die because she has no escape. Now she has an escape, an ability that can parry anything in the game, and percentage health true damage.

Focus on making the game better, not adding "exciting" new elements to the game that are exciting only for the person playing them.. Focus on actually listening to your community, not acting like you're listening and then throwing skins and champions at us to make more money. I remember riot season 1 and 2. where they actually tried to make their game better instead of making money.

Thief of Time6 votes

Agreed, Riot is trying to hard to make these super overloaded kits that only the pro's are gonna be able to use with efficiency do to lack of communication in Solo Q

DrCyanide2 votes

Kindred doesn't seem overloaded to me. The worst offender is the W, which has a heal after moving so much (necessary if Riot wanted this champion to be a jungler) a damage steroid while inside a certain area, and a 2 second cooldown reduction on Q. The only part that feels slightly odd is the cooldown reduction.

The Q itself? It's a modified Ezreal E, nothing more.

The E? A slow that only deals damage if you proceed to land an additional 3 auto attacks. For as much as people moan about the three attacks, at least this isn't an always on passive!

R? Utility ultimate that does no damage on a carry. That'll be the tough sell.

Kitten of Evil5 votes

Kindred is such a neat champion concept with such a bland kit.

Szunray4 votes

I don't even know how to look at this post. You talk about how your upset that new champions can do all of these crazy things. And then you say they're boring. Which sounds weird but maybe they are to you, since boring is such a relative term. But then you say you'd rather have simple kits like Annie's, which are apparently not boring to you.

Okay, so you like point and click champs that are simple? That is fine. But how many different ways can you make "Annie"? Lets say that Annie is basically just, an immobile AP mage with CC. If you want that you can play Annie, Ryze, Veigar, Brand and Xerath. If you're willing to broaden your horizons a bit you can even include Syndra and Zyra. So if you like simple champs like annie you have 4- 6 options for that. If I want to play an ADC jungle and not get flamed, I didn't have that option until now.

Recent champs are, at the very least, very different from each other and other champions in the game. You cannot easily replace Braum/ Ekko/ Thresh/ Tahm in a teamcomp.

Unpaladin2 votes

Kalista is also an AD carry jungler. Vayne is also one of these and is generally accepted. Riot tried, but this one isn't exactly as fresh as they're trying to lead on.

What OP means is that there are enough 3-hit combo attacks to warrant not having any more of them for a while, True Damage is literally everywhere right now, overloaded kits are and will always be a problem, and mobility is a necessity ever since mobility creep happened and Juggernauts started to exist.

Riot need to make a champion that breaks the mould; this one doesn't and while it is new and creates some nice interactions it also adds another instance of unnecessary complication. Another thing OP talked about was "troll ultimates" which is practically in every champion release by this point excluding Yasuo and Vel'koz. It's understandable that Riot want unique abilities, but most of them don't even do damage or create an effect that is beneficial to your team unless you're some kind of wizard. Practically every champion prior to these new releases had some kind of guaranteed beneficial effect, unless you're playing Rumble and you're an idiot.

If we just focus on ults, we can see that an improvement can be made if Riot just made them actually do something good for the team instead of making it a gamble. If Riot just released champions like Vel'koz or Annie (without the BS), we'd have characters that can deal lots of damage and provide in their own way without bringing in anything ridiculously stupid to make it seem new and exciting (which they've done like 6 times in a row now).

fuck you he's the most fun champion to come out in years. dont see you bitching about Trundle Anivia who i have seen trolling MUCH more often than i've seen bard.

just because someone throws a bad ult doesn't mean they're trolling. it usually means they just fucked up. get off your high horse.

Riot's current mindset: when everyone is broken, no one is.

Krys Star3 votes

Riot doesn't know how to design carries without slapping on excessive free damage and mobility onto them. =x

Unpaladin2 votes

Riot need to shove some kind of anti-tank property somewhere, and it looks like they're running out of ideas in order to enforce that. Riot also needs the champion to have extra mobility so that a Juggernaut can't just stomp them on release. Not only that but someone on Riot's team absolutely loves 3-hit bonus attacks, and I'm pretty sure it's Ekko's developer.

Maligaro Spike1 votes

free damage? She has got bad AD ratios, very low base AD and very low AD per level, her passive will be her only source of considerable damage together with E as soon as Midgame starts and if you haven't got many stacks you will end up dealing no damage at all. She isn't even all that mobile, she need to cast her dash between wolf territory or its cooldown will be much higher and since kindred doesn't build any CDR she won't be any mobile outside of wolf zones

Purodyuusaa2 votes

What? You mean you don't appreciate the 3 auto-attack, % damage, healing ult, movement skill?

You're right though. This is a boring ass champ that had the potential to be original and interesting. Instead it's another frankenstein kit that's boring as all can be.
