Riot, I am probably one of your biggest supporters here on the Boards.

Electro522··52 votes·4,765 views

I've fought for you so much in the past, sometimes to the point to where I'm certain more than just a few people have called me a naive sheep.

I've tried my hardest at defending your guys' decisions, and to defend the individual Rioters from all out witch hunts.

I've disagreed with the Boards alot, and agreed with your guys' statements towards the overall actions of the Boards.

I've been on your side ever since I started playing, and only 1 other game company has earned the same amount of respect from me (that being Digital Extremes).

So......with all of that said, I really hope you here me when I say that....

#There is something seriously wrong with League of Legends.

It is simply not enjoyable anymore. Even you win, you don't have that same feeling of accomplishment (and no, I'm not memeing here), unless it's a 40 to 50 stalemate. Hell, I just had a game where we came back from having 2 inhibitors down, and having only one of their towers down, only to feel.........nothing!

And losing feels worse than it ever has. One of the worst feelings in League, for me personally, is the feeling of utter uselessness. When, no matter what you do, it feels as if you only make the situation worse. At the moment......losing feels pretty damn close to that. You either do nothing.....or you try to do something, only to make the situation worse.

What makes this interesting, though, is that I don't think anyone has even the slightest clue as to what is wrong with League. Sure, people will say that damage is too high, or the game is too snowbally, or whatever other idea that they think is wrong with the game, and if fixed, the game will be enjoyable again. Well, in my opinion, those people actually don't have a clue as to what truly is wrong with this game, and they just want to pin the problem on something.

What makes things even more interesting, though, is that I think not even you guys at Riot truly know the problem, either. You hear the complaints, you understand where they come from, you try your best to fix the problems........only to see that every little change you make only seems to make the problem worse. To make things worse, you get conflicting messages from the very vocal minority, and the general populace of the game. You have one side practically yelling in your face "Something is wrong!", but the other side tells you through surveys "Meh.....I don't see anything wrong."

I won't claim to know what is wrong with League, and I think everyone else should admit that they also don't know what's wrong. All we do know is that there something IS wrong with League, and it is sapping the enjoyment out of it. Maybe it's us, and we simply don't know it. Many of us have been playing this game for half a decade or more. Or, maybe it is something to do with the game itself, something so deep and underlying that no one can truly point out what it is.

I truly hope you read this, and if you do, I would love to hear what you guys think the problem is........if you think there is any one true problem at all. And if you don't want to reply, that's fine. I just hope you guys do realize that there is something wrong.

I can't say I know exactly what's wrong with the game, but I do know what I hate about the game now. And in no particular order and what I can think of what I hate just on the top of my head:

  • I hate how Marksmen who get ahead can just burst and two/three shot people instead of just killing through sustained damage, leaving no room for counter play most of the time.

  • I hate how Assassins who get ahead can just burst people down and then get away scott free, again, leaving no room for counter play most of the time. They're doing their jobs, but I still hate it.

  • I hate these new minion gold changes.

  • I hate this incredible focus on Baron which usually has both teams stalemating at his pit for 10+ minutes until one team makes a mistake and they usually lose the game off of it.

  • I hate how dying once in bot lane will usually cost you the turret and thus the laning phase (and usually the game).

  • I hate this emphasis that all Marksmen all practically build the exact same item kit with little variation with only a few exceptions.

  • I hate how practically every critical hit item gives movement speed.

  • I hate how every critical hit item is cheap as hell.

  • I hate how tanks can do so much sustained damage with so little.

  • I hate how black cleaver literally does everything for any AD melee (armor reduction, 20% CDR, health, damage, a good on hit effect).

  • I hate how armor protects about as much from attacks as wet paper does by the 10 minute mark.

  • I hate how Static Shiv and energy attacks in general are still doing magic damage instead of physical.

  • I hate how cheap and easy it is to sustain with life steal/health gaining effects like fleet footwork. Damage doesn't stick -- except when it's bursting someone down.

  • I hate how everyone ult cooldowns are all under a minute -- sometimes under 30 seconds.

  • I hate how accessible CDR is.

  • I hate how snowbally the meta is.

  • As a support, I hate having to rely on people, even though I really do enjoy helping people. Now if I get caught out alone, I'm going to be jumped on and dead in two attacks, guaranteed.

  • I hate the mobility creep that has been building up for years now.

  • I hate how most champions now are jack of all trade characters, rather than having a defined weakness like the older champions.

  • I hate that whenever a champion gets nerfed or an item a champion uses gets nerfed, they get one, two or sometimes three "compensation buffs" most of the time in return. Just nerf them. If they're too strong, just nerf them -- this isn't a hard concept to grasp.

  • I hate how Riot keeps buffing champions that are "too weak" when really it's just they're being outclassed by other champions that are simply "too strong". Again, if something is too strong, nerf it.

  • I legitimately hate the balance team. I don't wish them ill will, but I don't know who else to blame at this point.

  • I hate the blatant favoritism Riot has on some champions.

  • I honestly, truly, hate this game, now. It's not fun anymore.

These are just my own opinions and my own dislikes about the game, but I think people can at least agree with some of them. I've been playing this game since day 1. Still suck at it, obviously, but back then, not a single one of these things on this list would even be on there.

And that was a time when Heimerdinger could have 6 turrets (and upgrade all of them -- twice), had auto aimbotting missiles that reached over 1300 units of range and could hit up to 3 targets, had a grenade that could automatically damage enemy structures, and a passive that gave everyone and himself 25/HP5 in a rather generous aura INCLUDING friendly structures, minions and his own turrets -- and was still considered under powered.

I hate this emphasis that all Marksmen all practically build the exact same item kit with little variation with only a few exceptions.

So like every champion?

I hate how practically every critical hit item gives movement speed.

Literally, nothing wrong with this and no problem in the game comes from this.

I hate how black cleaver literally does everything for any AD melee (armor reduction, 20% CDR, health, damage, a good on hit effect).

and yet no Cleaver bruiser is viable...

I hate how armor protects about as much from attacks as wet paper does by the 10 minute mark.

Have you played top lane into a tank?

You also forget they purposefully made supports stupidly overpowered.

Other then the fact it makes it harder to catch an ADC

The only bruisers that can even function are required to build it

Have you played top lane into a tank?

It doesn't change the fact that the tank will die in like 5 hits from the ADC

You also forget they purposefully made supports stupidly overpowered.

While yes they did make supports more powerful, this is way better then when they were literally ward bots

AirKingNeo2 votes

Other then the fact it makes it harder to catch an ADC

No, it doesn't. Most divers and mages have CC to cripple ADCs, so the small amount of MS (that is mostly negated by the CC) is meaningless. It's not enough CC to dodge shit unless you, the person trying to kill an ADC, sucks at aiming.

The only bruisers that can even function are required to build it

VIABLE BRUISERS RIGHT NOW:

Camille, Fiora, Gangplank, Jax, Aatrox. ALL OF THESE ARE TRINITY USERS (Aatrox is neither Trinity nor Cleaver).

It doesn't change the fact that the tank will die in like 5 hits from the ADC

Except they don't. Go watch pro play right now since EVERY GAME IS 5 TANKS OUT THE 10 PLAYERS. Do you see the tank dying in 5 autos?

While yes they did make supports more powerful, this is way better then when they were literally ward bots

They weren't ward bots, but that's also irrelevant. You can't kill an ADC right now because supports are so fucking broken.

Literally this. Riot used to have a much less strict ban system but now at this point you will see your honor go bye bye and you will even see your $1,000 account with all your skins go bye bye if you even utilize the chat to talk and people decide to report you. Players can't be human. If your teamate is running it down mid and you call it out you will be banned for a couple weeks like I did. Look at the bullcrap they did with Tyler1. Riot Games has branded itself on the basis of toxicity and them being "This heroic company battling such a horrid player basis of trolls" when in reality they treat us like snowflake millenials and they don't allow for any realistic interaction between players. Instead of focusing on the actual problem of trolls, negative in-game playstyles such as what I have been forced to do (Mute all teamates, take their farm, refuse to use chat and solo carry), and banning players based on their gameplay they ban players based on what is said in chat.

Keti2 votes

Ive been playing for years and I feel like it's impossible to get banned if you act like an adult.

XxXJoshXxX1 votes

Type kys in chat, even if you're dutch and you're saying "kiss" you'll be permabanned. Also talk in chat and say ANY swear words you'll be banned. Just because you "refuse to communicate" with your team doesn't mean other players do the same.

Keti1 votes

I curse all the time in chat. I've also flamed plenty in the past and spelled out kys before. I've never even been warned :s

XxXJoshXxX1 votes

You've never been reported, you just do that when playing with friends or you got lucky and didn't play with toxic snowflakes who qq about anything. Tell someone to kill themselves in your next game and demand they report you. Then watch the permaban come in.

Keti1 votes

Gee if you hate everything about the game why don't you spare yourself the misery and stop?

XxXJoshXxX1 votes

Did he say the game or do you lack the competence to read? The player base does not hate the game and they are not toxic because of the game. They hate the company that promotes trolling and toxicity due to their refusal to do something about in game trolls but will create a bot system to ban all people who swear or use any bad swear word languages. Go look at youtubers like dunkey who got permabanned, tyler1 who got chat restricted after his ban was lifted, and every other high elo player who's been chat restricted. Sure you can avoid communication and just stay low elo but to climb you will be banned on communication with others.

Keti1 votes

"I honestly, truly, hate this game, now. It's not fun anymore." -last bullet point from post I quoted.

His post also has nothing to do with player toxicity.

I already have.

Look at my recent match history if you don't believe me. Nothing but co-op vs AI and maybe a few ARAMs only because a couple of friends wanted me to play with them. A prospect that's becoming rarer as more and more of my friends also quit League.

Damage creep and failed class reworks. Runes added more damage and uncessary utility (aka mana flow band, Unsealed Spellbook, triumph, etc) than ever before that existed throughout old runes and masteries combined. Failed class reworks (lol all failed, release juggernauts failed, mages failed, marksman failed, assassins failed, tanks failed) created a retarded anti fun metas, for examples: Juggernaut- release garen mordekaiser and Darius, plus hotfixed 69% wintste skrber(never forget) and marksman abusing black cleaver, steraks gage, fighters abused titanic hydra and dead mans plate introduced fiora’s ridicilous rework that left her overpowered that had to be consistently nerfed because of her tank build introduced the reworked cancerplank later that year that had to be consistently nerfed throughout an entire season Marksman - reworked release kog’maw and Caitlyn, the terror of the jungle graves, a major buff to melee crits because of phantom cancer, and the abuse of release fire cannon+ Shiv combo. Mages - tried to fix mage itemization, messed up. Release >40% win rate reworked vlad and Cassiopeia. Ruined Malzahar and had to consistently nerf him(Lv 2 Malzahar solo dragon lol) assassins - messed up the itemization and straight up buffed zed. Remember the abuse of the juggernaut items by marksman? This update brought instakill Lethality meta on marksman such as Lucian,MF,Caitlyn, Twitch, etc. Ruined a few assassins for good ( fizz and talon) but brought even more cancer with the removal of pink wards, akali and kha’zix rework. Tanks reworked cinderhulk was introduced, enough said. But really, that reworked zac, sejuani and Maokai had to be consistently nerfed and dealt so much damage despite building full tank. Also dat bramble vest made top lane fighters useless

After all these reworks Riot realized that they do more harm than good, Riot cancelled the Divers rework that was promised in season 4, effectively leaving them problematic thanks to the new assassin items and bramble vest, they are outclassed by tanks even in terms of damage, so they build full damage and become shitty assassins. (Look at j4,Vi and Wukong lol)

One big offender is Riot’s refusal to listen to the player base and admit their mistakes: -Their class reworks are horrible -Their balance team balances 80% of the game around the 1% lcs pro players -Creep block shouldn’t exist -Damage overall is too high and they just keep adding it -When they nerf champions they give them a little bit of unecessary power in other areas -When they nerf overpowered items they give their abusers buffs in return for NO REASON -the game is too snowball -matchmaking is horrible, you get punished for tards and leavers -emotes are cancer cash grab that negatively impacts the experience of the game -and my personal favorite: keep spamming skins for their favorite champions ezreal mf kata etc while some champions haven’t had new skins for more than 2-3 years

I wonder why players lost their trust...

AirKingNeo3 votes

They do not balance around proplay. Xayah has been near pickban for like 6 months plus now. If they truly balanced around pro play, she would be nerfed.

Not in general; just for those three specific champs. You know what could better help against Yi, Yas and Zed than nerfing them? Learning how to counter them.

Dope Solo2 votes

I didn't say I couldn't counter them. I said, at least for Yi, he does too much for simply pressing Q. The other two have similar issues. Its the philosophy behind these champs thats makes league a shitty experience, that along with the specious and toxic community with their canned responses to issues with the game.

Now you are calling them the cause rather than a symptom.

And if know how to counter them, why bother whining about them? And if you want toxic and overbearing, try playing against a Singed and see how balanced he is.

Dope Solo1 votes

I'm not that familiar with Singed because I hardly ever see him. That could be your problem too. Maybe you should try not whining and gitting gud. (see how that works?)

Likewise, I only see Yi, Yas, or Zed once a month (thus, it's still your own problem), and yet I know how they're countered and have beaten them rather easily (Yas is my favorite to hammer down XD). Besides, Singed does have a trollish build and kit (one of the worst, actually); if you never fought him, you don't know toxic.

Dope Solo1 votes

Singe's play rate is 5.8% Yi is at 8%, Zed is at 8.7 and Yas is 9.3. (OP.gg) idk, maybe Singe's kit isn't fun to play, too much running around.

heroikc1 votes

{quoted}

Uh huh, and what is Singe's play rate? About 5.8% Yi is at 8%, Zed is at 8.7 and Yas is 9.3. (OP.gg) So statistically anyway, the numbers say you are incorrect.

What does playrate say about a champion's toxicity? I think you are just picking random statistics and saying it proves your point when it just says Singed isn't as abused as your favorite three.

Well...following your line, OP.gg also says Singed has a 53.18% winrate (#11 out of 140). Zed is #39 and is at 51.38%, Yas is #75 at 49.75%, and Master Yi at #119 and sitting on 47.68%. Clearly, Singed is a more toxic champ and harder to beat. Or is my math wrong?

Dope Solo1 votes

You think people pick the most losing champs? Why or why not? Your data is wrong. Zeds listed at 53%wr.

heroikc1 votes

The data is fact ^^ your logic is wrong, you cherry pick data, and twist the truth. All signs that say you lack ethics. Yi is simple and easy to come by. Yas is often complained about being "op" (likely from people like you) that others want to cheese as him. Zed is probably the only feasible argument, but still has easy counters to gain (Zhonya's, Swain, Heimer, etc).

In addition, I checked MobaFire and saw Zed's winrate in midlane (his primary lane) is 50%. Champion.gg says the winrate is 50.76%. League of Graphs says 51.6%, so actually it's closer to 50% than you would have wanted. All cases also show Singed has higher winrate (which maybe compounded by fewer players, but still ^^)

Correction, this is all third party sources; what motivation do they have for fudging data? And it's not data itself, but rather 1.) people who purposely fudge it or 2.) how it is presented. Also, you sound like an obnoxious narcissist; save your laughter and superiority complex for corny jokes.

XxXJoshXxX1 votes

Singed is by far the easiest champ to beat. You literally just last hit under tower and when your jungler comes top, kill the singed for free gold. If he lanes vs you, then you just trade and he goes oom fast and you kill him.

heroikc1 votes

That's rather dependent on 1.) lasting hitting before tower kills minions, 2.) jungler being ready and available and not some dork/jerk, and 3.) the Singed not being some random idiot.
Playing against him may be "Easy" but it is far from far; he is either pointless to beat because he's too easy or pointless to fight because of his kit. Their are probably 100 champions that are more enjoyable to top lane against and have more reliable strategies to counter...like Yasuo and Yi.

ApexInTheCircle8 votes

Honestly? They've killed diversity, new runes have enabled power creep (And I don't just mean damage) while simultaneously killing diversity of builds via runes and masteries. Turrets feel weaker and weaker every season because of the power creep ala tanks being able to bust towers down with a specific rune, more empowered attacks are now able to strike turrets.

IMO the ability to solo carry has been diminished completely and it really has come down to "You win as a team and lose as a team" Which means if botlane feeds or just doesn't do aswell as the enemy botlane they can be extremely difficult to handle.

This of course is all subjective and just my opinion as someone who has been here for a sad amount of time.

Tuition Fee6 votes

I'm kinda bummed at how quickly you can lose, and how little you can do to stop it. One feeding teammate will throw your entire game, after their laner starts roaming. Also, Rito seriously needs to stop making new champions/reworked champions so incredibly strong and overplayed, while others, such as Aurelion Sol and Ivern, are pretty much covered in dust, sitting in an old attic. It gets boring and repetitive when everyone plays the same strong, meta champions over and over again. The games become monotonous, dull and repetitive after you see your twentieth Yasuo in your lane. You just run through the same drill over and over, to dodge tornado, poke, etc. It feels more like a grinding game than a fun, massive MOBA, where things are unpredictable due to the diversity of champions, items and abilities, which can lead to unpredictable situations. When you narrow that champ, item and ability pool, it really defeats the purpose. I get that it's not easy running such a huge company with so many employees and players, but they really need to smarten up.

jungle has felt shit since they nerfed warrior in season 5 specificly for champs like vi/xin/rengar, some junglers dont even bother upgrade to warrior anymore. melee toplaners feel shit against ranged toplaners then you have to deal with supports+ADC's. botlane is just a role for premades or meta champs or you get shat on.

i really want to just fill every game, but i know if i get botlane ill be a deadweight to my team cause i dont abuse meta champs or get easy wins by going premade, jungle doesnt feel good to me cause i dont play stealth assassins. i only get satisfaction out of playing mid or singed top now cause its the only chance i get at winning. really fun having an autofilled support while i just pick sivir and the enemy have a meta premade isnt it?

wanna know what else i hate? how they removed zephyr and nerfed the ms on trinity and gave ADC's a shit load of MS items instead. i want season 5 itemization back as it was perfect and situational for every role compared to now where its the same items every game.

This hasn't happened in one day, tho. Some people saw it coming months ago, maybe you noticed it only lately.

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

I don't want to sound rude, or anything like that, so if I do, that's not my intention. But defending someone for a long time does not give you anymore credibility on a topic than anyone else. You've simply picked up the same complaints that everyone else has been complaining about for a longer time. Does this mean your opinion is wrong? No. Does this mean you shouldn't talk? No, that kills discussion, talk away.

But I'm so tired of seeing these "I've defended you for so long" posts, like they actually mean anything. Cause if that's the case, my opinion should have the same weight of yours. And I think the game is fine, so whose right here? Doesn't mean I'm right. I just play it differently to the point where I enjoy most whatever I do. Doesn't mean you're right. You might've just been worn down by the same things that have made the vocal minority complain.

Point of the matter, everything above isn't my solid fact of what the exact situation is. I don't know what the situation is. But saying "You've defended the game for a long time" doesn't mean anything.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

It's significant because when Riot begins losing the support of their most loyal boards members, that's a sign that something is really wrong. Loyal players don't just up and complain about the game like most people do. It takes a lot to move us to speak about something bothering us.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Loyalty doesn't mean you never complain about the game. The biggest part of being loyal is being able to tell someone that something is wrong. Once again, it doesn't mean anything, else my opinion would hold just as much weight as his does, despite mine being the opposite opinion.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Loyalty means showing more understanding for difficulties.

Un-loyal players will complain just for the sake of complaining, or when the mood strikes them. Loyal players rarely speak up unless something is acutally wrong. So when loyal players are speaking up, it does mean more.
