This doesnt look very balanced...

As always, this was reported on PBE as a possible gamebreaking abuse of the item and was completely ignored and went live anyways, why even have a pbe in the first place then? Oh right to hype and sell more skins.

Well at the very least im waiting for the hotfix.

Oh right to hype and sell more skins.

It's lines like this that really kill posts and make them sound more like raving idiots than legitimate criticisms. EDIT: I'm surprised this comment did so well. I was expecting to be spammed with downvotes.

It is a criticism. It goes from a criticism about the topic to Riot. Is it good, no, not usually. But still criticism.

Except op literally disproved his own criticism 4 lines above. Chogath is a champion who does not sell many skins recently. The criticism implies that riot keeps champions who do not sell skins underpowered and yet the entire point of the video was to show that a champion who does not sell skins is extremely powerful.

No one has a problem with criticizing riot. However, posting a video disproving a specific criticism literally 4 lines above the criticism is dumb as hell.

The part about skins doesn't even have anything to do with Cho'gath, he probably meant in general, people will test skins and see footage of them and get hyped for them while bugs get ignored which happened many times before even though this is supposedly a place to test if things work out.

Except being able to test skins on pbe kills the hype more than it helps. Riot would sell far more skins if the only way to get them was to directly buy them on the live servers. The only reason they get put on the pbe is to bug test them even though riot knows this will negatively impact the sales of the skin compared to releasing directly to live.

Its the other way around.

Ppl see the particles and everything on pbe and run to buy RP to they can get it the day it launches.

The sales you gain by hyping them on pbe > the loss of a few not wanting to buy because they didnt like the skin on the preview (and those wouldnt buy it in the first place).

If it wasant in their benefit they wouldnt do it, they could easily just release them straght up, like they have before.

Every skin that had bugs was released in that state. Best examples are the iblitz skin and lux star guardian I think which are or were, not sure exactly if they fixed that, P2W skins basically because the particles are less visible, and people were complaining about that, still wasn't fixed. There were more skins but I can't remember, also it doesn't kill the hype it actually does the opposite, they will get hyped for it and then realize that they don't have it on live, so they buy it.

idk, the ability lasts only a few seconds and a lot of the marksmen in the video seemed to be pretty content w/ letting the giant cho walk up to them.

Have you even watched it?

Most of the clips were him hitting his W then either walking up or flash ulting the adc.

Hint : there is no counterplay for the adc to him flashing ulting you while you're silenced for 2k true damage, even without the silence its basically ve on his flash ult range and you're dead, and adcs auto range are most of the time lower than that.

Tobias Brackner2 votes

Flash is on a super long cooldown, you can bounce back from that if you press fights while the flash is down.

I assume you mean Q because W doesn't solve the AA range problem. As for the Q tbh it's an extremely easy skillshot to dodge if you are looking for it.

Automated Riven2 votes

the adc really shouldnt be in 350 range of cho. (thats the range of flash btw) if you know he has flash up and can 1shot you. just play a little safer and wait till he is dead.

I was able to pretty easily Protobelt into chilling smite nom them in my testing game with it.

The builds weakness is how many items you need to pull it off.

The counter play to this is the same counter play to annie flash proto belt tibbers. Don't be in the same lane.

Tobias Brackner2 votes

Mmm forgot about Protobelt. Then again I don't see alot of protobelt Annie so maybe there is a weird reason why that isn't too popular.

Automated Riven2 votes

i never play it because you give up alot of damage for the protobelt. its rarely more useful then something else.

Sp33d Zer01 votes

Well yea, it has AP. Riven hates AP.

Automated Riven1 votes

if you had bothered to look me up you would see that annie is my second most played champ in ranked. ....

Or read the previous comment.

I stand by my statement, Automated Riven.

riven does hate ap. i just dont see where the fuck the comment came from. here we are talking about annie and your like. riven hates ap. it makes no sense.

Doesn't mean it isn't garbage to play against. Health and balance are separate issues.

That isn't true - Vladimir was incredibly toxic on release (and some would argue he still is to a degree), but balance wise, he is not out of hand.

ChargeItDownMid1 votes

[deleted]

He sat below or at about a 50% win rate at high elo for years. He was never over powered, just incredibly frustrating. Old Soraka would be another example of that.

Toxic design doesn't have anything to do with the champion being underpowered or overpowered. E.g., Vlad's Q is either extremely weak and thus "balanced" or strong enough to spam until your opponent dies. That isn't healthy game design. The amount of sustain he previously offered was not appropriate either. Morello, Meddler and Xypherous have all come out and talked about how his kit is inherently difficult to balance for these reasons .

Our main problem with Vlad is his Q. It's a low CD, targeted, resourceless spell that restores health. It doesn't have much interesting decision making for Vlad, if it's ever strong early he just shuts a lot of people out of lane and the main ways to deal with it are to either sustain even more or to punish Vlad really hard when he trades.

Vlad's also got a bit of a 'stat check' issue, where he'll just reliably outclick a lot of opponents 1v1 without sufficient avenues for being outplayed. That's not ideal

Again, I don't think you are understanding the difference between balancing champions and overall game health. Champions designed around mini games are another example of this, and it's something Riot has said they want to avoid in the future.

If a champion has to be kept in a state of inherent weakness due to high levels of frustration or "unfair" game-play, then the champion is toxic, regardless of their win rate. A champion can be balanced and toxic, or they can be unbalanced and toxic. They are not synonymous, by Riot's own admission.

ChargeItDownMid1 votes

[deleted]

Lucifer1 votes

No, because some champions are impossible to balance to keep the game enjoyable, or Riot wouldn't bother reworking their entire kits. It's why almost every single one of the beta champions is drastically different in some way shape or form. Simply changing numbers does not make a champion toxic or not toxic. Old Yorick had a sub-par win rate, but his old kit design was completely toxic for game health.

Old poppy was toxic for the game. She was kept inherently weak, because if she was ever picked competitively, it would warp the entire game around her. That's why Morello wanted her reworked, and why if she was ever picked competitively, the balance team said they would gut her to death. Toxic champions /should/ be kept weak, but that is not always the case. And just because a champion is too strong at a point doesn't mean they are toxic either.

Sp33d Zer03 votes

I would HEAVILY disagree.

No matter how much you nerf yasuo for example, his windwall will make his kit very unhealthy. No matter how much you buff Orianna, it will feel like she has counterplay. No matter how weak you make ekko, there will be SOME kind of build that he can abuse, and the same goes (for the most part) lucian, as he is able to abuse on hit effects heavily. Garen will always feel like he is unhealthy if he is strong because he has a very binary kit, sure. But the few champions in mobas that are healthy when perfectly balanced are the very binary champions, like annie, Garen, Soraka, Master Yi, etc.

Yasuo was designed as a melee duelist for the midlane, as a counter to immobile mages/ADCs and I suppose immobile toplane tanks, and his kit had plenty of power before keystones, keystones just amplified his problems. Baseline Yasuo was one of the reasons warlord's bloodlust had to get reworked the fastest of any keystone. Building 2 items and getting sustain while almost building half bruiser was ridiculous.

Orianna has been top tier but never because she was OP, nor toxic, almost ever. She requires a ridiculous knowledge of the game, positioning even further than that of almost all other characters since her majority of damage comes from a side entity, and was built for teamfight and AoE power rather than a duelist-type burst mage. Orianna relies on knowledge of how to position the ball, shockwaving at optimal moments, creating zone tools to frighten off targets and repositioning to defend targets with the shield, or adjust mobility to ensure escapes or engages. Her level of power is great, but it takes someone with the knowledge of her kit and almost every single detail about her to use her at maximum efficiency. And why take ori when you could take Ryze or Syndra or Viktor or Cassiopeia . All of them are nearly equal to Ori when it comes to full utilization.

But you know, you can keep walking around uninformed. Maybe do some research with that wasted time, eh?

His kit is fine early, but his scaling needs work.

He isn't as bad as people make him out to be though.

Something being balanced doesn't mean it should be allowed to stay, though.

If ADCs are victims be prepared not only for a hotfix, but hotnerf to chogath.

Noone is allowed to kill ADCs! (expcept lee, he's Riots main lovedoll)

Only Play Darius1 votes

Apparently there's a similar concern with Darius who can just activate it when he's close to 5 stacks and then dunk everyone with true damage. Haven't tried it though but it sounds fun.

Also Riot stopped listening to PBE player feedback on balance ever since the Skarner rework. The server is mainly for finding bugs now.

But Darius ult doesnt scale of HP.

TwinkiePro3 votes

Its the fact that it scales with AD and stacks. Gargoyles reduces damage done, not your actual AP or AD, nor true damage dealt. Therefore, his ult can do a ton of damage while making him twice as durable.

Hopefully that sheds some light.

Volibear Boss1 votes

Yes, but Cho´ Gaths ult does way more dmg in this 4 seconds, while darius ult does the same.

TwinkiePro2 votes

Yes but Darius can 1k true damage 5 enemies each if done right. Double his hp and you have a god.
