[Unpopular Opinion] Long games are usually not fun

I played an hour long game not too long ago. It was the best game as poppy I've ever played. We had an enormous lead. I was doing very well and I felt like all my efforts were paying off. At around 25 min our ekko felt like he was dying too much; getting caught out and picked by the enemy team. Every time he died he said "Team?". It was clearly not the teams fault he was getting picked off the way he was. Was just his own mistakes and lack of map awareness. So, he just afk's in jungle. The rest of the team including myself are trying earnestly to win. We're doing everything possible but could not close the game. It lasted nearly an hour. I would have been half as upset if it didn't take as long. The length of the game actually matters.

Overly long games can become a grueling tedious task. Some people need a short break before continuing playing. Not everyone can spend a full hour and a half playing a single match especially when you're carrying dead weight. Personally, I find the majority of long games to be the worst games ever; even wins.

Shorter games, even losses, have less a negative impact on me as a player overall than going an hour and a half straight without a break. Some people (like myself) prefer being able to play three, four or maybe five a day/night rather than just a couple extremely long (unnecessarily long) games. For somebody who'd like to see some progress in their climb while also having other real world things to do, long games are highly unattractive.

Perhaps long games are more appealing to people who don't play ranked; which is fine.

People want longer games, not crazy long games like an hour. 30-40 minutes is an ideal game

You can't balance games around toxic trolls. This goes for in game stuff like damage and scaling as well as all things regarding pacing.

Riot should not make comebacks less likely just in case the winning team has a troll.

Also in general if comebacks become more theoretically possible, then people who are ahead should be less likely to troll because they know they have a real shot at throwing the lead if they screw up.

I mean your Ekko in that game sounds toxic as hell, and nothing anyone does can help those guys. But if you keep comebacks real options, players who care about winning will be like "Oh, I better stop wandering around in enemy jungle without wards or having vision on anyone and hope I stumble across a squishy. I'll actually play the map."

Most people don't want games to be ended in the first 15 minutes. The community in general seems to agree that the average game time should rest right around 30 minutes or just over. In order to achieve that, you're gonna need some 15 minute surrenders and you're gonna need some hour long tug of wars.

Here's the main point though, my dude: You're attributing this stressful experience to game length, but the real problem is the troll. If that Ekko had been just flat bad or had not trolled, you would have gotten mirked early on if he was bad, had a good fun back n forth if you were able to carry him, or he would have been good and yall would have ended the game early.

I'm telling you dude, if both sides have 5 guys all giving their best, an hour long nail-biter is some of the most fun you will have playing 5v5 in this game. Whether you win or lose.

i dont care how long the game is as long as it doesn't continue past the point where its over.

if the game ends in 20 min thats fine.. if the game ends in 30 50 min thats fine.

but if they game's outsome is decided by 8 min and i hate to wait for 20 min becuase one moron on my team wont surrender.. then i have an issue. the game is fun as long as its winnable.. if i have to keep playing when its not winnable. then i'm no longer having fun

I'd be fine with games being shorter, IF comebacks were possible, so you could still get the intense feel of a back and forth game, without the extra half hour.

But you just had what everyone is having with these stupidly short games. No ones asking every game to be an hour. We want the 45 minute games back with back and forth and come backs not this win lane and you only lose if you are legit extra chromosome retarded.
