I don't play URF.. but.

Why is Riot trying so hard to "fix" urf? The entire game is meant to be trolly and spammy and actually unfair. I don't think most people play urf for some super balanced experience. I always thought URF was the opposite of it. It was supposed to throw all the rules out of the window for an anything-goes type of game. Most the time I don't want to play it.. so I don't. I don't want Riot to try to fix it or anything. I don't mind not playing it. I played it when I was in the "Fuk it lets go" kinda mood.

I just find it strange that Riot is trying to balance a mode which fundamentally was supposed to be LoL on drugs. I say stop trying so hard to fix it. If people are complacent about it being unfair, they dont have to play it. If they are so bent on fairness they can easily go play classic LoL. It's better that it is a place for people who just want anarchy than trying to make it conform to everyone which ends up with nobody wanting to play it. Either its chaos or its not Riot. Give URF liberty or give it death.

They answered this in the last Ask Riot 5 days ago. The short version is that when reg URF shows up, when it leaves again, there are actually less ppl overall still playing LoL. It's like ppl get burnt out from too much LoL too fast with URF and quit. Anyway, there you go.

"Ask Riot: URF" Article

I'm one of the people that leaves the game for 1-2 months after URF (any variation). Any other gamemode just feels extremely slow and boring after playing URF for a couple of weeks. This is also why I've only played probably around 200-300 normal/ranked games ever since I was introduced to ARAM back in custom lobbies.

GeminiRune1 votes

The longest I ever really "left" was after the very first one in 2014. And that was purely of burnout. I came back 2-3 weeks later and mostly normalized with ARAMs and 3s first.

Each following iteration I shaped my mind to realize it to be more of a chaotic practice tool. So I never really burnt out again. That and from just playing less games.

I wonder if that's actually a deficiency with URF, or possibly just a case of "OMG URF is finally back I gotta play the shit out of it before it disappears for another year". I know playing URF doesn't make ME any less excited for normal SR matches, but after URF I take a break from league for a bit just cause I've been playing a crapton of it.

Because if that IS the case for everyone, then the solution is MORE URF, not less.

Less urf makes sense

In NA, for example, whenever we ran URF we’d usually see over twice as many longtime players leave the game compared to what we would’ve normally expected.

Leave the game, not take a break, leave.

'cept they don't share how they defined "leave the game". If they're saying "quit altogether and never return", I'm calling shenanigans.

Hell, part of the only reason I play LoL anymore is actually to play URF. I hate the way the standard game is balanced right now, so I don't play the standard game much if at all anymore. Those people that are no longer playing LoL are probably holding similar opinions to my own honestly, as many of my friends do essentially the same thing.

Saianna1 votes

I wonder, how many players returned to the LoL for just URF in the first place. Because if Rioters include those returning URF-fans as full fledged playerbase and those guys leave after URF is over then well... No wonder it looks poorly on their spreadsheet.

And knowing them for all the time I played, they definitely did the way I just said....

This just shows how stupid Riot actually is imo.

The reason people leave after URF is they realize hwo fun the URF was and how imbalanced and a nightmare it is to play the actual game after having so much fun in URF. That's why they leave.

If Riot fixed their normal game they wouldn't have this issue.

There's a legitimate problem with normal urf: people are not interested in fun, they're only interested in stomping the enemy, your enjoyment be damned. so better hope you like playing zed/maokai etc. urf doesnt buff all champions equally.

but arurf/snowdown urf blow. we need regular urf with bans, id take that over the other two any day

My problem is with all the changes to URF and other rotating game modes. Just bring back the original URF, Doom Bots, Hexakill and All for one. As the saying goes if its not broken don't fix it. Custom URF's where too much fun with friends.

GeminiRune1 votes

On one end, they did explain the issues behind the lack of Hexakill and AFO. I just wish they would invest even a month's worth of time in coding and testing that stuff in order to bring it back. There's definitely enough gamemodes to almost healthily diversify an entire season.

Riot's still afraid of deviating too far from Classic Summoner's Rift.

GeminiRune1 votes

The RGM in a way was meant to deviate from the standard way to play. I don't think it's much fear more than it is the utilities and to an extent community feedback.

I mean, they've stuck out to make different twists to a lot everything, from outright making a Custom into a PVP Matchmaking (ARSR) to the few modes based on their own creations (Overcharge, Blood Moon, etc).

  1. Frst URF was fun (untill idiots started tryharding it)

  2. Riots first way to fix URF by introducing ARURF gone totally opposite way thanks to.. idiots with smurf accounts tryharding the mode

  3. Now Riot just tries to monetize on URF with winter skins. Nothing more, nothing less. They stoped even thinking of fixing it.

Atm I'd not expect anything more than only actions further increasing monetary gain from modes. Especially winter ones.

Of course ppl will play more urf than normal games because they bring it up only few day per year.

Duh! Of course we BINGE on it when its once a year. Give to us regularly in the rotating game modes, people don't have to binge, don't get burned out. Guess nobody at riot has ever taken a basic psychology course or has common sense.

I've been able to play 100 games of urf during the weekend so even if urf was always in rgm like poro king people like me would still get burnt out

the article was saying players leave league after urf mode, even after taking into consideration the people who come only for urf.

People don't leave just after URF is done, they leave during URF.

Well yeah, they get burned out regardless of wether they play regular league or not, because when urf comes around you know its gonna probably be a year before you see it again so you play it till your sick of league period. The solution is more urf not less.

They get burned out because everyone is so toxic. It's not fun being told you suck or you're trash etc. Even the best among us will get annoyed eventually.

Yeah but that was back before the honor system. I've haven't seen hardly any and I've been playing it like crazy.

I play like crazy too but that's because addictions. Other people who have more self control probably only play like once a week because of toxicity. That's probably why riot has been going on these banning sprees.

Honestly I haven't seen much toxicity since the honor system debut till recently, when the value of what you get from the honor system when into the toilet (who needs key frags when OE was nerfed so hard), and even then its not as toxic as it used to be.

Ye I just left a urf game because I got put as kassadin, Didn't know they gutted him and made him the most trash champion in the game, Locking his ult to 200mana and 3 second cd is painful when most champs can stun lock me to death.

Hes still pretty op as long as their team doesn't have a crap ton of stuns or loads of poke. And the snowballs help get in peoples face.

Twisted Cypher1 votes

Hes very shit compared to a lot of champs that got no changes, Especially when I was against a gragas that could belly slam me 2 times before I could even use my ult, Idk it seems year by year they're making this gamemode even shitter, Its not a competitive mode its a fuck around mode, So why try balance it, GIve is 10 bans and it will be fine.

uhh, kassadin is still one of the most powerful urf champions though.

True, hes not as strong as he used to be. And gragas is annoying as hell with that spammable belly slam.

There's a pretty large contingent of people who seem to enjoy URF, which is why they are trying to find a health way for it to exist. Unfortunately, classic URF apparently caused people to stop play LOL permanently, so they are a little hesitant to bring straight URF back. So they keep trying different variations in the hope of finding one that makes people happy and doesn't have other people leave forever.

Mokuto Bunshi1 votes

According to them, they never want to balance the game mode, only the feeling of regular league being too slow paced afterwards.

Mcsquzzy1 votes

I actually had to play bots to retune myself to normal league after my first URF cause I actually became incapable of managing my mana and cooldowns properly

Mokuto Bunshi1 votes

XD I was similar, but only for mana, all my reflexes were Jedi level. I side stepped globals before I could see them and that kind of suff.
