Another Sion Nerf????

Look, we get that riot hates bringing mana users in the top lane but really?

Sion's E is his most reliable laneing ability. I know it's not as flashy or thematic as smashing someone in the face with a well timed axe, or his iconic shield ability. But as far as abilities go, and as far as facing a human opponent goes, none of those two abilities are particularly reliable, especially in the top lane no matter how low their costs are.

His Q can be side stepped or even interrupted and -then- side stepped when he gets it back. His W can be bursted quite quickly before it can be detonated (especially by Riven, and before you say anything like "but then she just wasted her combo" no. Riven just wasted Sion's combo by bursting his shield and dodging his Q, and in the end riven wins out by not needing mana for that trade.)

His hilarious minion shout poke was the reliable bread and butter to his laneing phase. It's not like it's skilless either, it requires precise positioning and a landed skill shot. When he was released he could do this move all day because the cost was so low, so it was understandably nerfed by increasing its mana cost by a flat amount. Ok, Ok, I get it. I'll just be aware of my mana pool and use it sparingly, still gonna level it up first though.

Now you make it the most expensive spell in his repertoire if you choose to level it up?? Seriously?

If you want me to stop using his E to poke, then make his other abilities look more appealing, and I don't mean lowering the mana costs by a measly ten.

And if your whole stance these days is about making abilities and champions have a niche so that they are situationally good and not constantly good, what about match ups against Gnars or Nidalee's? That E on Sion was downright necessary so that he isn't destroyed in lane.

Please reconsider.

As a Sion top main, I guess I'm still okay with the mana costs. I mean, they already "kind of" lowered his QW mana cost to compensate just a little, while his E will still do good burst damage which comes with a well-priced mana (35/40/45/50/55).

Guess I'll always start with item 2041 every game then lol.

a flat 5 mana does not compensate for a twenty mana increase.

Tanks can't be viable, silly community. Tanks don't make the $$$$.

The combo still exists

which is press e, tag the enemy, then set up your Q

because they are slowed they can't just walk out of it.

and if they use a dash/flash to get out, then your jungler gets to walk in and kill them because they burned their escape.

While the combo exists of course, his poke no longer exists. And laneing is always a matter of farming while poking your opponent down. If you EQ every time you'll run out of mana fast.

It doesn't surprise me too much, I don't think riot really had a position in mind when they re-worked him, I think they overlooked the power of E in lane. I think they expected Q to be his bread and butter ability.

Sion is my main so It does make me sad, but its not really that bad. His mana costs are still really good compared to a lot of the other tanks; malphite, cho, etc..

Dude it cost 35 fucking mana at all stages of the game. It will still do really good damage.

Sion Decimating Smash (Q) mana cost reduced to 40/45/50/55/60 from 45/50/55/60/65 Soul Furance (W) mana cost lowered to 60/65/70/75/80 from 65/70/75/80/85 Roar of the Slayer (E) mana cost increased to 35/40/45/50/55 from 35 at all ranks

That's such complete bullshit. The only top tier top laner with no mana is gnar. All the others are mana users like lissandra, mao, and lulu.

Those are all really weird pronunciations of the word Rumble

Totally forgot him. And to be fair kennen is pretty good too. That said it's ridiculous to claim riot has some kind of anti mana bias for top laners given how mages are running rampant.

He did not say top tier.

How do you expect me to Sion support now?

Let's do some maths first.

Sion got a 5 mana discount on 2 spells, make that a 10.

Sion got an increase in his leveled up E.

So it is considered a nerf when you upgrade your E spell for the fourth time.

I play Sion regularly and i am quite happy with these changes. Lategame your mana is nearly irrelevant, and in the laning i guess you can live with only 3 levels on E.

I usually max my W though, so it's just better for me.

If you want to have a good laning phase with Sion, allow me to shed some light on something:

Currently Sion can easily survive and outpoke anyone in 1v1 situations, and after the laning phase, he just gets stronger and stronger mostly because of the hp stacking, the cc and the roaming possibilities.

Riot had to tone down a bit on his laning without a doubt. I love Sion, but i love balance too.

I was overjoyed by this news because it means when I lane against a Sion he can't just pelt me with my minions all day.

Sion's probably the only champion in league who gives you advice on fighting him.

Are you someone who enjoys landing every ability?

OxBaker1 votes

That's bazaar. Sion is usually only chosen if Mao isn't available and yet Sion is the one they nerf? And such a big hit to the only ability that he can viably lane with?

I just don't get this balance team... Guess it's back to Mao...

Raja Chachki1 votes

I feel fine with what you call nerfs. I see them as buffs because his Q really is easy to hit in an "elo" as low as mine :)

Thefriendlyorc1 votes

As someone who's been on the sion hype train lately these nerfs make me very sad. He's never going to land a q or an e against a mobile champ and his e poke only really works against champs with out sustain. Also it's easy as fuck to dodge if you know what he's doing. Guess it's back to maokai. Or max his shield or something.

Saianna1 votes

I though his E required damage buff..

As full AP sion it was so weak..

And now they even nerf it? Way to go Rito """"strategic diversity"""" my ass.

Jungle Lux God1 votes

I think the point is to promote Sion using his higher-counterplay abilities over the (relatively) lower-counterplay poke patterns that come from spamming E in lane.

I like this change from a laning standpoint because it gives you more options in how you want your laning phase to work out, not to mention that you have more choice in your mid-game skill level-ups in the lane.

wow 20 more mana on one skill... on a character that will most likely build a mana item of some sort... much nerf such wow... Sion is unviable because of 20 more mana at max rank in one skill... rito plox
