Riven is still broken, Riot

Burnt Light··10 votes·2,257 views

She is a mobile assassin with CC, burst damage, tankiness, and low skill cap champion with no resource whatsoever that will never be fixed without a rework to her entire kit to make her back into a bruiser where she belongs. These ass kissing mains have been keeping her brokenly OP for way too long, she needs to have a rework done since you guys can't figure how the hell to balance her.

Here's a suggestion since you don't want to rework.

  1. Mana.

No excuse for her to be resourceless. She's a champion with high mobility, burst, CC, and tankiness with that shield of hers. Her CDR are relatively low and it makes for a face roller that throws a keyboard down a flight of stairs to get an easy kill.

  1. Drastically reduce her shield.

Give her the Diana shield treatment. She is not squishy as long as that thing still scales with AD, she needs to be forced to build items like Sunfire Cape instead of building all damage and suffer no penalty for it.

  1. Remove the dash of her shield.

It's a shield with an escape that can also act as a gap close. No need for a dash when her Q can already perform the task of escaping and gap closing. It's too much utilization, just as LeBlanc's silence was. This will make it even more riskier for her to be in a team fight than jump in and mash buttons as if the user was in an arcade.

  1. Ultimate removal of damage steroid

Her passive already acts as a steroid, absolutely no need for more. She isn't an assassin, she shouldn't be pushed as an assassin, yet this very ulti is what fits for an assassin.

These are the things I want done to her kit. She is in another class of her own, she shouldn't be getting any special treatment just cause a bunch of ass kissing mainers want to keep abusing this freelo, and should suffer a large nerf or rework.

If Riven is so good, why aren't the pros using her in LCS?

Because Riven is super easy to shut down with crowd controls. If she's silenced or snared, she has no shield, and blows up instantly because she built too much damage and no toughness. She also has pretty much zero health regeneration, so if she makes even one tiny mistake, you can damage her and it'll stick until she recalls or unless she has Ravenous Hydra (which she can't have early-game).

Riven is fine.

Adding to this; she has one of the lowest health regens in the game, sitting on a whopping 3.34.

I mentioned this already, but yeah. 3.34 health regen basically means any damage you land on her is going to stick.

MrPerson102 votes

Essentially, yeah. You get, for example, Darius vs Riven. Stats-wise, their base AD ratios are the same - however, the tradeoff for that is that Darius has 3x the health regen, almost 5 more base armor and 30 more base health vs riven's amplified mobility. Sure, she can favor short engages all day but she's incapable of standing to trade-off against him

Lower damage and/or cool downs. Riven can easily die if stunned and focused though.

Riven can easily die if stunned and focused though.

And that is why she is balanced right now.

Riven's not actually too bad, just start playing things like Renekton or Irelia, anyone who can take 3 Qs and shove something in her face after she trades. Every Riven (unless she's a retard) is going to Q you 3 times, try to get some autoattacks off, then stun and shield-dash away. If you can CC her quick or even chase her after she shields and trade back, she's going to be easy to manage. If she Qs first, she's probably going in, and if she ults, anticipate dodge it. I once went Akali against a Riven mid and juked her ult by running straight toward her, then behind her. Then I did what Akalis do and Q autoattack R win game.

Lmao if you're doing draft pick and they first pick Riven, just go Mantheon and get Doran's shield and 2 mana pots. You just need CC to beat her. Or, you could even be an ass and go Fiora and try to build more damage than she does and be like "French Whore beats regular Whore"

I picked Riven against a Fiora once. I've never been wrecked so hard in my life. I ended up rushing item 3143 just to try to stop the turret diving rape.

I seear Riven has the hardest of the hard counters ever.

lool yeah I hate Fiora, I could be a fed adc and kite her for half her health before she Qs twice and ults to kill me. Getting spanked with a baguette.

But she does hard-counter Riven? Good to know, especially with her health regen (the passive) she'd be able to take trades better :D

Quit bitching. Riven is balanced. She can be shut down hard as fuck.

Just because you fed riven 3 kills and she facerolled your team doesn't make her op, that player could probably do the same with a lot of champions.

Figure it out bud.

Noone cares that you are bad and don't know how to deal with balanced champs.

I thought I'd seen your name before, so I checked your history, OP.

Turns out I was right, and no matter how often you are corrected, and assistance is given, you will persist in your complaints about balanced champions. If you're not open to being helped there's no point in helping you.

Add LB, Lux, and Pantheon to champions you apparently refuse to learn to beat on your own.

Edit: And I laughed at "low skill cap".

Yet she is and can very well be an assassin. E/Q/AA/W/AA/Q/AA/Q/E makes for a great wombocombo on the backline that you simply can't do anything about with all the AoE CC going out, without blowing a summoner's or an ult from your front line.

Every assassin has a form of defensive, including Riven. Her e shield/dash is comparable to Kat's e reposition/15%DR[1.5sec], Yasuo has his passive shield (resets on ulti usage), Zed has his shadow mobility to hop back on, Talon has invisibility, etc.

Without her damage steroid, she won't fit as an assassin.

You want an assassin to have mana? MonkeyKing Talon See how limiting that is? Wu-Kong isn't built as an assassin often anymore because it's ineffective, Talon's in about the worst spot he can be, in large part due to high mana costs and a small mana pool. (Edit: Why do they use mana? Every spell they use is guaranteed to hit their target or go off exactly where they placed it. Same goes for LeBlanc on the AP side of things. However, while Kat's shunpo arguably does the same thing - it's a total reposition with zero escapes, unlike the above 3 examples. Her Bouncing Blades also deals reduced damage to subsequent targets hit after the first, making it an unreliable form of harassment particularly in the early game where she has low damage. Riven has no targeted abilities, you cannot point and click anything and with mana, you severely limit her waveclear potential which we see in assassins and top lane picks alike, which brings you right back to where Talon currently is: Shit tier.)

If you really have a problem with enemy Rivens, play Irelia and just outscale her.
