Am I the only one disappointed about Taliyah as a champ?

Thematically, art wise, this champ looks great. She also fills the stone mage role niche. However, after several attempts at trying to main this champ, I'm always left with a bitter taste in my mouth. Most times playing a new champ makes you feel like, "this champ is cool, with some practice, I could really do something with this champ". At least you can see potential in the champ kit and want to learn more.

With Taliyah, I always feel like she is way too unreliable, too conditional, and the output damage/control is never worth it.

Riding Taliyah ult to cutoff enemy retreat is like a hazard to her health. It's like there should be a warning labeled on it. "Don't try this at home". Because while you can cut enemies escape, riding the ult also traps you. Being unreliable as Taliyah is means you will miss all your skill shots and get killed.

She is also incredibly squishy for a stone mage. No armor/shields. Yet you are expected to go riding stone walls into enemy back lines.

Rylies nerf doesn't help either.

I really wanted to main this champ, but I just can't.

Hey, I feel like she's only a stone's throw away from being perfectly balanced

Edit: Holy shit, it was a joke, chill

My problem with her is that most of her abilities are tempered in a really lazy way. She has a great passive - but near a wall? What made anyone think you could code that to be anything other than a trainwreck? You could have easily made that passive river-only, or jungle-only, or hell, out of combat for 10 seconds. Instead we got walls which is just stupid.

She takes forever to get on the rock, and drops off almost instantaneously. Her on again, off again passive is more distraction than benefit.

Then there's the "wtf" gating on Threaded Volley. It's already a semi-skill shot in that if you angle it wrong you can whiff the whole thing. Now I have to get artsy just to use the full effect? And whats the trade off? I move more quickly? All of this reminds me of those conversations with people way too into the game that start with "Let's make a really complex character that..."

I'm all for complexity. That doesn't mean it has to be stupid. There was a saying we had back in early WoW that went something like this: Don't leave something broken for the sake of not dumbing it down. The point is, clunky isn't good. It might be complex, but not for a good reason. And that's Taliyah in a nutshell.

I haven't played her since they reworked her W so I won't comment on that.

Unraveled earth is a really cool ability but in both directions, it's wrong. It's good against dash champions - that's awesome. But the damage capabilities aren't great for everything else. It's not good for clearing, it's not good for taking out non dash champions. And I can feel someone coming in here and going "well if you're good enough..." No. It's about the ROI. Putting in effort with Taliyah isn't' worth it. I can do less with other champs and get more. So why both with her?

Her ultimate, in my mind, is fine. It's weird, and it functions in a way I don't care for, but in the dumpster fire that is this kit, it's the least of the problems, so whatever. it's fine.

You want to fix her, she needs to move closer into a control mage/support role:

P: I want her to roam, but if you're not going to rework this ability to work where it matters in the jungle or river, then turn it into more of a Siege Master ability where she either increases resistance's by 30% near towers, or can do more damage on towers. I don't know, something useful.

Q: If you're going to keep that miserable Worked Earth on there - and it's the dumbest thing I've seen in this game - then allow allies to move more quickly on it, and get rid of that ridiculous mana refund thing. Does anyone go "well I'm running out of mana, better shoot from 'worked earth' for now"

No. You know why? Because no one plays this garbage champion. So there is no worked earth.

W: [see above]

E: I actually don't hate thie ability as much as I made it seem above, but you should give her the ability to recast to pop the ability.

R: She should always ride it. I think that makes it more "should/shouln't I cast this" than giving her the option.

She is the Trump of LoL. Builds walls, disappoints ect.

Taliyah is super boring and a big waste

we coulda had an earthbender like this http://orig04.deviantart.net/b7c3/f/2015/083/7/1/tremor_mortal_kombat_x_by_kostasishere-d8mqtq7.gif

but we got a weaker, diversity-quota version of toph and she has 2 spells that are just throwing pebbles

Honestly I prefer the idea of going against the standard archetype. Most earth/rock related characters are the same personality wise (or have many similar traits) to help emphasize that "I am a rock person." Taliyah's personality is a breath of fresh air IMO to earth centric characters.

i prefer the idea of characters that are actually cool and fun to play

taliyah is neither and im mad about being hyped for garbage

Both of those are matters of opinion.

I didn't say it wasn't, and it's not an argument

I will never say that anyone who worked on Taliyah did a good job

Ok. So it's more just "I don't like X for personal reasons." Rather than you having a complaint on her current state of balance?

Big Lincoln1 votes

i don't care about her balance, i just hate the kit and the character. earth champs should feel strong and weighty, she feels weak and frail

tho tbh for those same reasons I wouldn't be upset about never seeing her again xd

Well we already have Malphite for your stereotypical earth champion. Having another would seem odd. Especially with all the extra effort into character now.

It is kind of weird that the stone mage is so flighty, pokey, and opportunistic.

She's got a cool kit, gameplay wise. But none of her spells feel heavy enough.

Riot has been super into giving champs utility ults, recently. Which is fine, whatever. But with a stone mage, honestly, I just wanna drop a huge boulder on someone's head. Taliyah never gets to do that.

It's not just gameplay. It has to do with sound effects/visuals/thematics too. Like, what the hell is her stone field? It doesn't make any sense for her theme or character. It's a cool gameplay concept, but it's completely arbitrary. She's a stone mage so she throws... exploding stone mines? That only blow up when you dash over them?

And a knockback makes perfect sense for her character, but it's so tiny. Which, again, makes sense for her gameplay. But, thematically, if you are going to give an earth mage a knockback, I want to chuck people around with. Not just dink them three inches in one direction.

Ziggs has a lot of similarities with Taliyah. Poke Q, area denial, a knockback. His kit just feels way more satisfying to me, though. All of his abilities work well, gameplay wise, but also fit perfectly with his theme.

I like her art and character though. And her passive/ult do look great.

She is one , if not the most messed up champion kitwise i have seen in many years of playing this game. maybe Karma before her. Ironically, she is my favourite (Taliyah). I had stopped playing league and she made me come back from my endless hiatus.

I would literally turn her kit upside down and rework her as a real control champ.

For starters, Worked ground irks me to no end. It is implemented in a way to limit her Q, but her Q is very difficult to hit because of minions and the way it works directionally...so WG simply is a nerf to her damage. The movement speed buff on it is not enought. I like the mana refund tho, but is not necessary IMO because they need to lower her mana costs all around the board. They are way too much for what her skill offers. She should not rely on WG to be able to use her skills in lane. The single pellet does no damage and the mana cost is too hit anyways. Eliminate WG or rerowrk it

Her passive...like someone said here, is kind of dumb to be used only around walls. it should be used everywehere. I dont know why thematically she needs a wall to create her rockboard. it makes zero sense.

her E is fine but i would like it to be less clunky with the vector cast Also a longer throw would be fine. maybe a slow when the enemy hits the ground?

her E is bad. They dont want to increase the damage on it... so i suggest adding a snare when enemies dash thru the minefield. I mean, after the last mine they explode, they get snared for 1,5 or 2. That way people will for sure respect the minefield.

Her R needs less colldown on the first 2 levels. maybe adding a bonus to rocksurf as a passive of the ult would be cool too. Something like reducing the rock surf cooldown with every level or something.

Never having played her, just looking over her kit I instantly see two things about her:

  1. Her Passive is gimmicky, thematic garbage.
  2. Her Ultimate seems rather lackluster as well; much theme, little effect.
