Brand 55% win rate, 250k games; Nerf required

If Rammus is taking it up the ass for being even remotely viable (WHY?! Rammus is simply doing exactly what he is designed to do; Fight ADC prevalence), Brand should be dunked in oxygenated water for his dominance.

Not just a slight mana increase, they should completely gut him the way they're doing for Skarner .... no favoritism Riot. Brand is clearly a much bigger problem so he needs a much bigger nerf.

He's not OP at all :] Taking half of your entire HP with a single spell isn't really overpowered.

Losing 1 second on his Q slow is Rammus taking it up the ass?

when he's viable it's hell for any immobile mage/adc/toplaner

yes i know he's anti-adc, but i meant the almost unavoidable ganks.

If they nerf Brand they are gonna have to nerf lux. If they nerf lux they are gonna have to nerf Viktor. If they nerf viktor they are gonna have to nerf Orianna. If they nerf Orianna they are gonna have to nerf Xerath.

Etc. etc.

Brand does a ton of damage - Immobile and all skillshots so it's balanced Lux does a ton of damage and has a shit ton of utility/range - Immobile and all skillshots so it's balanced Viktor does WAY too much foking damage at all points of the game - Immobile so balanced

etc etc.

This is the logic things go by. Thus this is the cycle of nerfs that will come because of it.

Brand can't move. If you allow yourself to be caught in his AoE you missed the warning that comes up on the ground. And you if you got stunned he hit you with two spells back to back ending with his Q. Nerfing Brand would require a chain reaction of mid laners being nerfed. If you cannot combat him then use the Ban when you have it. Other than that, learn to build Hexdrinker, Banshee's Veil, Merc Treads or other items to help handling him. This pre season has been full of posts to nerf every other champion. It's not that complex, if you lose to a champion take a break from league for an hour and study that champion a little more, as well as yours. I've been playing Brand long before this pre season and he's always been top 10 in my opinion, now for the first time he gets in top 5 and everyone is losing it. Brand is immobile and requires combination of spells to land in order to stun. In addition, it's not his kit that always kills you a good Brand builds the right items and in order to combat Brand you need to build to counter him not your normal cookie build off a Mobafire page.

So true, I've got a ton of brand games under my belt and have played him enough to not worry about counters. Brand is immobile and requires combos to get out of trouble. But played correctly he is probably one of the strongest most balanced Champs in the game. As the poster stated above, if you are having trouble with a champ. Play that champ and learn their weaknesses. And for an immobile champ brand has a ton of counter play for ganks while in lane thanks to his ult.

Rammus sets the fucking bar for tanks. He can take a nerf.

And Brand already has a nerf in the form of weaker Deathfire Touch. Adding another second makes it deal less damage per second, and the duration is shorter for DoTs.

Anivia was another champion who became "strong" with that mastery and she was nerfed on top of it even though Brand had higher win rate and more than 3 times the games. Also considering that Anivia is a scaling champion who relies on both Tear and RoA which means you need to hit late game to be effective, compared that to Brand who only needs 1 item and can deal massive damage early/mid game.

JustMyBassCannon2 votes

The nerf to which you refer is a reduction in how long her slow lasts, meaning she actually needs to capitalize on targets for her E to deal full damage instead of using it as an afterthought because they happened to touch her ultimate.

Brand has a mana cost increase on his W, which also increases his dependence on mana items early game.

They both have minor nerfs coming in on the PBE.

Pick rate != balance

Yes, Brand's win rate is high--it pretty much always is--and I'm not going to say he shouldn't be nerfed, but cherry-picking arguments doesn't prove any points.

Dark Nephthys1 votes

I know pick rates does not = balance but with the high win rate AND pick rate it's kind of putting him on the strong side. A champion could have a very high win rate but if their pick rate is really low, that tells you most people who play that champion win because they are generally people who are experienced or main them.

Brand has a very high popularity right now and like the highest win rate. Also the Anivia's reduction of the chill's duration hurts her more than Brand's mana increase. Especially when a lot of champions has a form of dash to now use to stall out the damage until they become unchilled. Sure Anivia's would still be able to use their R>E reliably, but now it forces Anivia players to have to rely on landing closer ranged Q to get the E off.

Rammus sets the fucking bar for tanks.

Nonsense, he has some of the worst tank stats across the board.

The only reason he is somewhat tanky is because he has the second best active defensive steroid... but he lacks literally everything else (Naut disables, Garen's W, Malphite's AoE presence/threat, etc.)

Brand can't move

He is one of the fastest mage characters, MUCH faster than Morgana and Syndra , for ex.

And yet he's never been irrelevant, only faded in popularity at times.

Actually, I can't recall a time when he was ever below a 50% win rate, only ever a less popular choice than others. Sure, win rate doesn't mean everything, but it doesn't mean nothing, either.

He is one of the fastest mage characters, MUCH faster than Morgana and Syndra , for ex.

I didn't even say anything about Brand's mobility, you're quoting someone else there. Although, frankly, him being "more mobile" than Morgana and Syndra makes sense when you consider he lacks their strengths (Morgana has much more devastating CC, Syndra doesn't stop moving for her casting animations).

How many times was he picked in Worlds 2015? How about Worlds 2014? Barely at all compared to top tiers.

I despise having to explain this because we both already know your argument is bullshit but okay.

Win rates become inflated when a character has low popularity because it tends to be only mains that pick said character... when a character is popular, the win rate tends to be decreased and not representative of the power of the character. There are edge cases of course (Ex: Recently Gangplank had 83%ish win rate for a few days.... and Urgot has been consistently at 41% ish for a long time).

Point being; Your win rate argument is flimsy. It's doubly flimsy right now because we're in the most AD prevalent era that League of Legends has ever seen... Rammus was specifically designed to function optimally in this scenario. He is subpar when AD is not as prevalent... even during the tank meta, Rammus barely saw play.

Rammus has never been a popular character, even back when he was a very strong jungler in S2 and briefly in S3... he was never anywhere near the popularity of say; Lee Sin, Thresh, Riven, Yasuo, etc.

I strongly disagree because neither Syndra , nor Morgana have his level of AoE burst or nearly on-demand, massive sized two second stun on a low CD. In fact, Morgana pays for her "Devastating CC"(A snare? seriously?) by having one of the worst auto-attack ranges in the game.

I understand your point and honestly your retorts on this particular point were good, but ultimately look at the statistics and tell me that Brand does not need nerfs; you cannot, by the same logic that says Rammus needs nerfs... Brand needs much bigger nerfs because it's not even a meta where he is designed to function optimally, in fact, other mages are suffering heavily whereas he has bust onto the scene with huge success.

Letting him keep his huge burst, low CD stun and buffed ultimate but magnifying his weakness so the opponent can capitalize on it is what Riot believes is best, they've done it many times and this is what should be done.

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

On Rammus, I have one last thing to say, or rather clarify. I haven't seen him drop below 50% win rate ever. Over 5 seasons. In the ups and downs of his popularity. He's the Ashe of tanks; sometimes not relevant to the meta, but always a solid choice with the right team.

On Brand, I never said he wouldn't need more nerfs, but I'd rather it goes gradually instead of flipping the hell out because he "only" got a mana cost increase to his main damage spell and his core mastery was nerfed specifically for him.

the most oppressive thing about him is his aoe range
