PSA: You can carry as a support
^Title. A good support can effectively carry games at all elos. People are always saying that supports are too team dependent, but they fail to realize just how vital and important good support is. Supports are arguably the hardest role because they must function with less effective gold and experience, which is no easy task. For this reason, most supports in lower elos are effectively less useful, meaning if you ARE useful, you turn the game into a 4v5. Here are a few things to remember.
-As a support, you need to adapt to your team. Don't try to change the way your team plays, enhance it. Make plays that you know they will follow up on, and if your ADC is extremely passive all the time, don't blame them for ignoring your aggression.
-Learn how to be reactive. Most supports try to make proactive plays: grabbing, harassing, etc. However, most of the support skills in the game are actually more effective when used reactively. Skill shots all work better when being chased then chasing. Wait for the enemies to drain spells, then react by harassing and attacking in the aftermath when they're weak. Proactivity isn't bad, but most of the time it's what gets you into trouble.
-Learn to shotcall. Most often, people will actually listen to the support when it comes to shotcalling. Some games they won't, but if you know how to make good calls, it will greatly benefit you.
-Learn when to ward. 9/10 supports die most often because they're out of position trying to ward. Dying to pop a ward is never worth it.
-It is impossible for any role to carry on their own. This game is too team dependent. Unless the enemy team is just as bad as your team, one person cannot carry. Carrying games alone is a myth. You can, however, make a huge difference and be the reason that your team wins instead of losing. Supports can do that just as well as any other role. An alistar who tanks massive amounts of damage can win. A Bard who catches 3 of the enemies into his ult and stuns the other 2 wins rounds. A thresh who grabs a vayne in the middle of the teamfight and locks her down carries. A Janna who splits the fight in half with her ult and blows away anyone who tries to attack the adc can win rounds. Carrying on your own is impossible, and no role can do that. But carrying your team to victory by outplaying the enemy is possible for supports, just as well as any other role.
I've played exclusively support this season, and have about a 70% win ranked (and I'm not that brilliant of a player, tbh). Supports can win games just as well as any other role.
