So Thresh has a 53% win rate and 30% play rate

I'd give it 6 days before we see daily Thresh threads.

boards in a nutshell

TwinkiePro4 votes

Ahri is exempt , as is lee sin :3

Edit: I clearly didn't clarify.

Ahri seems exempt in that their are not many threads about her, even though she strikes above 53% for several patches.

Lee Sin is exempt in that he could have less than 50% and players will still bitch about him.

??? You mean you don't see enough threads bitching about Lee Sin having a 50.07% win rate or threads whining about Ahri on and off for months?

Anidan5 votes

Man, you'll see threads whining about Lee even if he has a 48% win-rate. I know, because I've seen Lee have lower and still get complained about.

Fairyfleur3 votes

Even if he has something like a 48% wr, he has a very high playrate at the same time.

boards in a nutshell

So, this is a bad meme, because it's actually play rate that Boards primarily cares about. Close to 70% of the QQ I see, I can directly relate to their play rate...

...which makes total sense, when you think about it. Boards is the really engaged portion of the user base, who probably play more League than the average person; of course we're going to get sick of seeing the same champs in our games.

I just wish we were more upfront about it: "It's not fun when [champ] is in all my games" instead of "OMG, [champ] is so broken right now!"

Mews994 votes

I'm mostly just poking fun at the fact that when a champ has >50% winrate the boards freak out, i mean does 53% winrate + 30% playrate really matter? If it continues to go up then sure i understand but the way i understand it 53% doesn't mean you're going to win 53% of your games

cocacolalips2 votes

due to the nature of the game being a 5V5 team game, champions bring each other up and down closer to 50%, any champion that deviates from this median is objectively a lot better or worse that what 1 or 2% would lead to believe

if riot released a champion tomorrow that had no ability at all, that champion would still hover around idk maybe 10-20% win rate, despite not doing anything at all, when objectively that champion should have 0% win rate for being much worse than every other champion in the game.

Nothing new on my end.

I complained about Thresh since Season 6, how he is practically the King of Supports with a kit that has no flaws. Everything about it is perfect and he can do everything that any other Support can do. Now that Redemption is a thing, he can also replace Enchanters if he feels like it.

Thresh is a generalist Support and not a very fun one to play against when all he does is play super aggro to engage and just in case he loses the trade flashes out and throws the lantern after his ADC so they don't have to use their flash.

Quort23 votes

Oh yeah? Can he put everyone in stasis? Or let everyone move through walls? Or leave health packs around? Or stun two targets simultaneously? Does he have immense cosmic power?

No. Because Thresh is lame. Bard is way awesomer than that loser Thresh will ever be.

Lauchmelder13 votes

Thresh got natural wifesteal though

Krys Star4 votes

Technically, yes, Thresh can move people through walls, just one at a time. And he can stun two targets, or more, simultaneously with his Flay.

Quort1 votes

Flay isn't a stun though. And he can't "let everyone move through walls." He can only drag over one person with his lantern. Thresh is just a wannabe Bard. :3

notice me Sin pi5 votes

knock up is coded as stun, so flay is technically a stun

Botifier1 votes

or is a stun coded as a knockup?

Mordepool6 votes

Either way it's 9 months of terror

Vallalan3 votes

well his main flaw was that he was squishier and if he didn't stomp lane he would have a hard time going in teamfights lessening his usefulness as the game went on.

with the relic quest and courage he doesn't really have that weakness anymore.

its why he's risen to the top I feel. he legitimately has very little weaknesses now.

Oakleaf Ranger1 votes

WTF?

Thresh is garbage and hasn't been meta in ages. He has no build in sustain, no defense steroid, and primarily single/small target CC (very bad for support). He a king of none, joke of everything else support. The only good match up he has in high level play is Janna maybe soraka. He HAS to get a lead early or he is mid to late game is a awful. Any tank just stand in front of him daring him to hook him mid to late game. Most Thresh's lose like quarter to half their life during the hooking animation alone. Lets not even talk about the amount of skill needed in the first place to even play him successfully.

Sett a trap1 votes

Didn't know 53% WR global was garbage.[zombie-brand-mindblown]

Oakleaf Ranger1 votes

Yah and blitzcrank is has a 52.8% winrate as well cant wait to see his debut in pro play again. WR alone don't mean much. I gave you reasons why he is bad (at least currently) and if anything needs buffs. Alistar Bard Brand Braum Annie Karma Leona Lulu Morgana Nami Nautilus Sona TahmKench Velkoz Rakan Taric Zyra dumpster him in lane and afterwards. He is probably in the worst position a champion can. A champion that has a high skill floor and is situational that also have other (probably better) counters.

Sexy Fish Nami1 votes

I disagree.

Thresh can basically beat any ranged support as long as he lands his hooks or he knows a little bit of the matchup hes in. Theres a good reason why if you one trick thresh, you can manage to atleast reach master since he can beat alot of matchup. The thing with thresh, however, is that theres two type of thresh: the bad thresh who is going to get fucked by basically anyone and theres the good thresh whos going to fuck you up and steal your wife.

the thing you don't understand with thresh is that he has alot of killing abilities. No sustain in his kit? he doesnt need it if he hooks you since youre most likely going to die. He needs to kill you like 10 times yo be useful? questionable, thresh can peel if he lands the hook on the threats and keep on cc'ing them. Not only that but the lantern itself is a good peeling spell if doen right and can produce many versatile plays.

Is he op? no. Is he really strong once you know how to play him? fuck yes.

Oakleaf Ranger1 votes

Depends on who he is hooking, a lot of the meta supports don't mind getting hooked and end up winning the trade if they get hooked and followed up on. Tank supports are the first one that come to mind but a lot like karma and lulu. Mid to late game he just melts so quickly compared to all the other tank/tankish supports. The one thing I really think he needs to see high level play again is a defense steroid added to his ultimate as either a passive or a part of the ultimate itself. I'm personally starting to feel that his ultimate is pretty weak compared to other supports.

Eternal7911 votes

Um, I've nearly one-shotted most of the enemy team with a single Thresh ult while building full tank. I'm sorry but that's the opposite of weak. Not only does it deal a crap ton of damage but it also provides a ton of CC and can completely change the tide of a team fight in Thresh's favor.

You vastly underestimate Thresh as a whole.

Oakleaf Ranger1 votes

Thresh's ultimate does nothing against anyone who builds any kind of resistances damage wise. Yes his passive does give him AP but he doesn't build any MR pen so by mid to late game only the slow is useful. The problem is with the amount of anti CC options available to squishes now and just the stead increase in overall mobility, slows are pretty lackluster as one of the main selling points with his ult when its not really an AOE (since you don't get slowed or damaged if you don't actually touch the ultimate). Thresh has the potential to do as you say, but it requires so much to go right for that to actually happen is pretty low realistically speaking. It's like saying Orianna is OP because that one time I got a 5 man ult off when the scenario rarely presents itself let alone give enough time to take advantage of the opportunity.

Eternal7911 votes

The thing is, nobody even needs to touch the walls for it to be useful. It can act as a fence, preventing enemies from moving around for a limited time. And even when the enemy has plenty of mr and Thresh has no magic pen, the walls still deal plenty of damage and apply a slow that is actually quite useful in a team fight. Thresh's ult is also pretty easy to use successfully too. Just make your way into the middle of the team fight, press R and watch their health and move speed disappear as your team forces them into the walls (assuming they hadn't already hit them.

Again, your vastly underestimated Thresh and overestimating everyone else.

Oakleaf Ranger1 votes

I don't think I have ever seen them do damage to be honest, most of the time their damage doesn't even look like they did anything to someone's health bar (probably because of the reasons I stated earlier). Getting in the middle is not as easy as you make it out to be. Your just gonna get peeled off assuming you don't die in the process of getting in a good position to use your ultimate. His hooking/gap closing is just too slow. It offer too much time for the enemy to reposition. If the speed was on Alistar Blitzcrank Leona that might change my mind.

Eternal7911 votes

Most of the time its not hard at all to get into the middle of the enemy team when the fight has already started. Most of the time I don't even need to hook my way in. I just walk in and ult whether the enemy wants me to or not. Part of this is because the're too busy trying to kill the rest of my team and because I'm tanky enough to not die immediately when they do attack me.

Oakleaf Ranger1 votes

The way you explain sounds like you don't initiate fights then. Currently supports, top laners, and junglers are roles that typical take some sort of initiation champion. If your not fulfilling that role are your team or have someone to do then that playstyle isn't really an option. And unfortunately its usually support that role or make up for it by playing something super peely/protective. If your the only one on your team capable of Initiation and your Thresh. Well I'm expecting you to die pretty quick then.

Eternal7911 votes

Quite often I am the one that initiates, but things don't always work out in a way that allows me to do that... thus resulting in the fight having already started by the time I arrive. Normally as Thresh I do try to be the one to initiate as Thresh has plenty of ability to do so. And no, in a good round, I don't die very quickly as Thresh.

Oakleaf Ranger1 votes

I guess we have to agree to disagree then. He is a very popular champion despite me thinking he blows by comparison to other supports. As such I came to my conclusion from witnessing him on my and the enemies team a lot.

Eternal7911 votes

Fair enough. Glad neither of us got heated over this. It's good to see respectable people, even if you disagree with them.

King of Mongoose9 votes

And I'm really glad to see thresh on top instead of a mage relegated to support

Ryrynounet9 votes

I've heard that thresh have 100% winrate and playrate in dark star singularity, nerf pls :v

JavelinJoe8 votes

Not a chance. He is perfectly balanced. You are seeing an increase because of the event. If any champ needs a change it is Lucian who has been top tier since release (except for that short period when lethality build was specifically at its worst where he was not one of the top 3).

There's an aggregate of every region, he's still broken, next question?

Ahristocats3 votes

i don't need to ask any questions

thresh won't be nerfed so i don't really care support role is karma+lulu+zyra+janna in like 80% of high elo games, i know that meddler won't be dumb enough to nerf thresh especially when he buffed poke through ap support itemization

LankPants15 votes

If it's just Karma/Lulu/Zyra/Janna in 80% of high elo games then how the hell to you explain Thresh having a pickrate higher than any if them? His pickrate is 6x higher than Zyra's. Don't try to act as if he's balanced just because you play him.

Ahristocats4 votes

His pickrate is 6x higher than Zyra's.

He's balanced because he's balanced i can make an essay on thresh and how his 5 spells have all counterplay and downsides but i don't have time to play with kids because of IRL stuff especially if they won't listen to all the points i made like with sejuani when i said Q+W+E+R are all relevant spells and "nop lol E+passive are everything" yet W is nerfed 2 times during hotfixes

LankPants7 votes

because i don't play in plat+

I mean, you do, because+ but anyway.

His playrate in Diamond is 6x higher than Zyra's playrate in Diamond. It's also higher than every other champion you listed's playrate in Diamond and is infact number 1 amongst supports.

He's balanced because he's balanced

Glorious argument, I'll put it right next to "Heimerdinger's busted because he's busted".

You are being incredibly biased towards your main if you see this and think it's fine.

i don't know why this is down voted. He's literally the hardest support in the game maybe matched with Bard

JaxMoonStealer4 votes

Because he didn't give any arguments to why he's balanced, because "he doesn't have time to play with kids" (yet he replied to every single comment afterwards).

Thresh always has a very high playrate because he is cool-looking, and a lot of players don't like using girly champs.
