All of the "solutions" to getting people support

Marshbouy··1 votes·538 views

Are rarely solutions. They are usually things that will either break the game for other champions (overly cost efficient support items that will be abusable), changing the support role completely(turning off old support mains), or are not even solutions at all.

The bottom line is people don't want to be support. This is in every game. People don't want to be the healer in MMOs, people don't want to be the peelbot in MOBAs, and people don't want to have to support the team. No matter how important the support is, people don't want to be the support. They want to be the DPS, the hard engage, the tank, someone who proactively does something, rather than re-actively assist the team.

But tanks are basically just supports with a whole lot of gold and stats in a solo lane. They do just what you said, reactively assists the team via crown control and peel.

What is keeping support form being popular isn't as simple as what you are making it out to be.

Or rather it is, but you are way off the mark.

What makes support less popular is how it is the only role with no agency or independence.

I'm with this guy. Generally speaking, in an 'even' situation, most traditional supports (See: Not-Annie or other APC's) will get stomped, because their kit and itemization isn't designed to defend itself.

You have to babysit someone in order to get anywhere.

In a sense, it takes away the players' freedom, because they don't have free roam of the map the same way other champions/positions do. They latch onto one of the players on their team that doesn't suck (Or at least, the one that sucks the least) and pray said person doesn't get jumped or do something idiotic. Because you can guess who's next in line if they do.

major reason i stopped playing support main was the players, it only takes one game with a shitty adc blaming you to ruin your whole game. or you get the mid/top/jun blaming you because your adc is an idiot who keeps diving and dying repeatedly.

almost every game i "fill" and end up is support, and then 90% of those games you end up stuck with a shitty/trolling adc, who has a shit game and then starts talking shit in /all

the frustration of even one of those games usually ends your good will of taking one for the team and playing the least appreciated role in the game.

i think beyond play style rewards, the attitude of most other players is the main reason no one wants to play support roles.

This wasn't a problem over in Dominionland.

Solved it by divorcing gold and XP from farming minions/monsters. Since it was a team game right from the gate, people who enjoyed Enhancers could still get their fun. If you enjoyed laning there was always Bottom. But, alas, no one played it and now we're stuck with the same problems we've been complaining about since the second half of Season 1.

From what I've seen in league, overwatch and WoW, no one wanted to be the tank either. Every game is 4 DPS characters and one sad bastard trying to fill in ALL the gaps by himself. No one wanted to be tanks either... unless they were bruisery damage-dealing tanks. No one wanted to be supports or healers. It's always 2 rogues, a hunter and a mage all spamming "looking for healer".

The moral of the story is, people are stupid.
