DUHHHH, WE BUFFED VEL'KOZ EVEN THOUGH HE WAS ALREADY STRONG!

Niyumi··4 votes·735 views

Same with Illaoi, same with every other champion you decide to buff into absurdity. Remind me why? And now we have another fucking broken champ with very little counterplay, and very few weaknesses, if any.

Next patch, we're goinna have even more broken monstrosities. BUT DON'T WORRY! Riot knows what they're doing, and CERTAINLY would never play favorites and forcibly create FOTM waves and metas. Nope. That'd be absurd! That would imply they care about nothing but money, which we all know is the furthest thing from the truth.

But uh, you know, Taliyah? A champ who has a shitload of counterplay and is really easy to beat? Yeah, we're just goinna repeatedly nerf her, 'cause she's too hard for the whales to play, and we don't want them to feel bad, so we'll make sure she's bad.

Thanks for the incredible balance, Rito! Sure do love how the literal easiest champs in the game are, hands down, the absolute strongest. So much fun to just click on people and win or mindlessly roll my face across my keyboard and watch people drop dead.

Insyead of putting you down like I feel evrrybody else who reads this, have an internet cookie and relax. Tell me in two sentences what is really bothering you.

  1. The fact that Riot gives no fuck about anything but money, and "balances" their game to show it.

  2. The fact that every champ I ever enjoy is IMMEDIATELY out-classed by any braindead, bullshit clicker or faceroll champ.

Hello! :D

We're not as rare as you think. ;)

Niyumi1 votes

What I want changed will never happen, because Riot would lose money.

But, first, I want a level playing field, instead of the easiest champs dramatically out performing the harder ones. That means no more one shots from Annie, no more Zed rolling his face and missing EVERYTHING but still one shotting someone with his ult, no more 800 damage twice a second from ADCs, no more targeted abilities doing 3-4 times the damage of any skillshot in the game, no more of the rewarding incompetence Rito loves to do. When every champion is viable, and no champ is considered weak or a troll pick, then the game is balanced.

Sure, champs should have niches and strengths and weaknesses, but there is no reason for the easiest class in the game to be, by far, the strongest and most diverse, with the most tools, the most sustain, the most damage, and all that.

Second, I want Riot to actually put some effort into their game. An amateur team could do a champ rework in a week or two, and a group of 5 people from just about any other major online game could do it in half that time. Yet, for as much money as Riot makes, they take more than a year? They pour all of their resources into skins and LC$, since that's where their money comes from, and they totally ignore their base game. They preach so much about how much they care about their game... yet do nothing to show it. We have bugs like Jayce's hammer freezing in game, but Riot can't be bothered to look at it (a Rioter even said so himself), but the moment Zed has an animation cancel that threatens their income, they disable him immediately and then go and fix it. So, I want Riot to prove they're not greedy (like they say), and actually put some effort into their game.

But, neither of those will ever happen, since Riot does not care about anything but money. ^^

As for champs I enjoy,

Ahri AurelionSol Bard Darius Evelynn Gangplank Gnar Illaoi Ivern Jhin Kassadin LeeSin Lissandra Lulu Orianna Poppy RekSai Rumble Shaco TahmKench Taliyah Teemo Tristana Vladimir

Those are my favorites. Of that list, several are considered weak or troll picks, and the rest have to actually work for anything they do -- in which case I ask why bother, since I can play some boring as hell, braindead champion and do the same thing with a fraction of the effort (and usually far more effectively)?

Eedat2 votes

Easiest champs? You realize Velkoz is all skill shots right? Maybe rush tier 2 boots and juke him lol

Niyumi1 votes

You realize Vel'koz has irrelevant mana costs, massive hitboxes that move incredibly fast, TRUE DAMAGE that scales off AP, a massive, true damage ult that has a handy slow on it, low cooldowns, CC out the ass, and just about everything you could ask for? He has no real counterplay, and the only way you can win against one is if he's bad, or if you get camped by a jungler who can run through his spam fest without dying and hold him still.

That, or you could just play someone like Annie or Zed and delete him with the click of a button, but then that's not really counterplay, that's just abusing an absurd champion.

Meanwhile, look at Taliyah. She's all skillshots too, but hers are EXTREMELY telegraphed, she has stupidly high mana costs, she loses damage for casting too much, she's short-ranged, minions can block her Q and eat up her E, she has high cooldowns early, and requires her entire combo to do any meaningful damage. Yet, her combo does a fraction of the damage of Vel'koz's combo. E>W does more damage than Taliyah's entire kit, E>W>Q>R does 3-4 times the damage of Taliyah's entire kit, at twice the range, with none of the drawbacks.

Eedat1 votes

Or you can juke his skillshots. Its not hard

Niyumi2 votes

Mhm, like I said, if he's bad, you can win, but, someone who can actually aim skillshots knows how to juke your juking, and hit you no matter how much you move around. Even if you have 400 MS, he can still quite easily hit you.

Especially considering Vel's absurd range and massive hitboxes.

The Great Divide1 votes

Vel'koz is very balanced, yes. But I'm also not gonna lie that laning against a good Vel'koz is such an uphill battle XD

TyrekGoldenspear2 votes

Not true, if they made the game enjoyable for everybody, then the game wouldn't lose money.

The problem here is that the community is too diverse for them to please everybody, and you know as well as I do that if Riot supports one side or the other directly, the players would feel alienated. This is partially why they take their own path in an effort to please everybody.

Yes, Balancing champions can be a hassle, and reworking them can be a pain as well. They don't take a short amount of time like you think they should. ;D

After all, to rework a champ you have to make a new model, rerig all the animations, make a new kit, bugtest that kit, check to see if the new champ plays nice with the items and the other champions, check to see if they warp game balance to an unhealthy degree, record new VOs, all that stuff.

It takes a lot more than five people a week. :)

They do put effort into their game, after all they just unveiled a new snow skin for the Rift unannounced.

Free of charge Christmas fun for all. Also, they have to put at least some focus on money, because they are a business. But I can assure you everybody there doesn't only want money. After all, if someone like you got hired, then the company as a whole wouldn't be focused on money now would it? [slayer-jinx-wink]

As for the balancing, it is harder than you think.

For example the ADC problem, it stems from multiple sources, their damage, their sustain, and their range.

Riot has to hit these one at a time and carefully or else they could break marksmen into uselessness. So PreS7 they are hitting armor pen to take out the cheese Armor Pen builds that has everybody rolling in salt. They will hit other areas if they need to.

As for skill-shots vs targeted abilities, I can only assume you are referring to Annie. Because off the top of my head I can't think of any point and click that does a crap load of damage.

Annie serves a niche of her own. You know those hyper mobile champs like Yasuo and Zed? Annie shuts them down hard with her point and click that cannot be dodge. Granted it is an extreme solution, but this keeps hyper mobility from taking over the meta yet it allows people to play mobile champs.

I am sorry but every champion cannot be viable or not troll picks at the exact same time. We can eliminate troll picks but there will always be a meta favoring some champs over others.

How? Lemme explain.

If the game is snowbally, then early game champs will have their cake.

If the games go on for a long time, locked in deadlock, then the late game champs will have their share.

When Riot changes things on the rift or in items they cause massive ripple effects in the game as a whole. You do not see it because you are in the game, you are in the ocean of the game. You see the rocks falling in but you can only see the rocks, and wonder why they can't throw in bigger rocks so that you can build an underwater castle.

Riot is over the ocean and sees the ripple effects of the rocks disturbing everybody around you, also in the ocean. They demand their rocks too to build their castle, but the ripples cause tides that ruin the integrity of their castles.

Friend, not one of your champs is a troll pick. The effectiveness of some may change depending on the meta but they will always be useful with a steady hand and good mechanics.

Heck, Ahri can bully Annie a mile away without her being able to retaliate. Ahri can escape a gank from a tank jungler that couldn't care less about burst. Annie can't. Kass and Darius wreck face, especially on squishies. You just need to get there.

I do not know how well you play, all I can tell you is to farm up, ward up, and you shouldn't worry about the point and clickers, because let me tell you, there isn't one champion in the game that can point and click you from the distance of Lissandra's Claw and oneshot you. Enter Jhin.

Not one of these point and clickers can delete two squishies under tower and blink away minimizing the damage taken. Kass can.

Also, I looked at your champ list and I have to say...

Oh. My. God.

[slayer-pantheon-rainbows]

You have the exact same problem I do. I play a TON of champs, and because my playtime isn't limited to one or a few, my skill level will fluctuate with a lack of practice or being used to habits or last hitting from a different champ. Tis the weaknesses of being a jack of all trades. You will have a disadvantage to people who dedicate themselves to one champion and live eat and breath them.

That doesn't mean you can't win though.

Play this game to have fun, as for the point and clickers remember, you have champions that can delete them before they get close enough to click.

[slayer-jinx-catface]

I have seen these champs destroy teams with the "braindead" champions you have mentioned. There is hope. Counterbuild, or learn your champions to the point that they can beat anybody. There are Fioras that can beat Pantheons. It isn't the champion, it's the summoner.

Thank you for sharing, and I will be here on the boards if you want to share anything else.

and you know as well as I do that if Riot supports one side or the other directly, the players would feel alienated. This is partially why they take their own path in an effort to please everybody.

So, they could please nobody. If nobody is happier than anyone else, then the game is balanced. People are only happy with balance when it favors them, and unhappy when it doesn't favor them. So, if balance favors no one, then every champion has a good shot at being viable.

Okay, here's the thing: League, relative to just about any other popular online game, is MICROSCOPIC in scope. You have one model, rather than hundreds, and one tiny map, rather than a huge world. If WoW can release an entire expansion in the time it takes League to do one champ update... then there's an issue. Not only do they make new models, animate them and all that, they create new landscapes, new areas, new music, new VO, new everything.

Creating a quality model and animating it takes no time at all. A couple days if you put time into it. Writing, recording and editing VO takes another couple days (but, you usually have someone else working on this simultaneously). Writing lore takes a day, maybe two? Testing it in a game as tiny as League takes another day or two. So, even if you add an extra day to all of that just to be safe, and do it sequentially instead of simultaneously, that's a max of what, 12 days? So, let's just say 20 days for the sake of argument. Now, that's assuming you actually work on it for the majority of those days, which is not the case at Rito. See, in F2P companies, you are given quotas for the cash shop, and you have to meet them. Any work on the base game that does not make money is on the back burner, and usually comes out half-assed, or takes five years to come out.

Free of charge Christmas fun for all. Also, they have to put at least some focus on money, because they are a business. But I can assure you everybody there doesn't only want money.

A PR stunt to try and convince the faltering whales that they care. The playerbase will only put up with so much bullshit before they start leaving, and Rito wants to keep their whaling alive and well.

There's also a huge difference between making money and being greedy -- though I don't expect people these days to know the difference.

After all, if someone like you got hired, then the company as a whole wouldn't be focused on money now would it?

I would never be hired in an F2P company, or I would be fired shortly after. Like the meme picture thing you see where the one guy makes a sensible suggestion, and is thrown out the window. I'm just not a greedy person, and I don't advocate greed, so I would insist on doing the right thing all the time, and the suits wouldn't appreciate that. In fact, I'd make a horrible business person in general. :P I'd rather start a company and make money because people enjoy my product, not because I milk them as much as I can get away with and put in the bare minimum effort. Gaming used to be like that, but then people like Beck, Ma, Hirshberg, Kim and so on came along.

The issue is that they do too much damage with no counterplay, have too much sustain, and just generally get too many benefits for nothing. They are supposed to be long-ranged, sustained damage that is easy to jump on and kill, but devastating if left alone. Unfortunately, ADCs are the opposite in all but one regard: They are incredibly bursty, have more sustain than WOTA Vlad ever had (meaning you can't just focus them down), have incredible sustained damage, and have no resource, drawback, or anything.

So, we need to cut their burst, and cut their sustain. Then they go back to being what they were designed to be. But, whales enjoy playing ADCs and winning, because they're easy and broken. So, we won't see any ADC nerfs any time soon.

As for skill-shots vs targeted abilities, I can only assume you are referring to Annie. Because off the top of my head I can't think of any point and click that does a crap load of damage.

Annie, Veigar, Syndra, melee ADCs (Yi, Jax, Yas, Xin, etc.), ADCs, Jayce, Rengar, Kha, etc. All targeted, and all infinitely stronger than skillshots in terms of both sustained and burst damage.

I play Syndra into Yasuo and do just fine. Same with Taliyah and other skillshot champs. So I don't really buy that as an excuse.

Friend, not one of your champs is a troll pick. The effectiveness of some may change depending on the meta but they will always be useful with a steady hand and good mechanics.

You know how many people freak out if I play Teemo, or Poppy jungle? You know how many people freak out if I play Taliyah and don't hard carry? Lulu mid? If I ever play the champs I enjoy the most, people freak out. Because, 95% of the time, the people playing them can't, and they do terribly.

Heck, Ahri can bully Annie a mile away without her being able to retaliate. Ahri can escape a gank from a tank jungler that couldn't care less about burst. Annie can't. Kass and Darius wreck face, especially on squishies. You just need to get there.

But see, they all have counterplay. Annie does not. You can't go within her range, or you just straight up lose, since she has such low mana costs and cooldowns with such high damage. Kassadin or Darius? You can just kite them. Ahri? Just dodge her Q and E and she loses a lot of damage.

I do not know how well you play, all I can tell you is to farm up, ward up, and you shouldn't worry about the point and clickers, because let me tell you, there isn't one champion in the game that can point and click you from the distance of Lissandra's Claw and oneshot you. Enter Jhin.

Just about every ADC can kill Lissandra in ~2s. Takes about that long for the claw to reach full length. Annie can delete her before the claw gets very far.

Not one of these point and clickers can delete two squishies under tower and blink away minimizing the damage taken. Kass can.

Akali, Win Nhao, Yi, Yasuo, Shyvana (doesn't blink, but takes no damage from towers anyway), Zed, etc.

Well, I come from MMOs, where the classes are infinitely more complex than anything this game has. Once you learn the basic mechanics of League, every champ is more or less a different flavor of the same thing. So, it's really not hard to play several champs, and I like to think I'm more adaptable than one tricks. And, since the champs aren't all that complex, I know what every one of them does, and how to counterplay that.

That doesn't mean you can't win though.

No, I can win with the champs I have fun on, but it takes far more effort than just playing Annie, Diana, LB or someone and just winning because I picked a broken champion. But, I don't have fun playing Annie, LB and so on, even if I do destroy people.

Play this game to have fun

Riot seems to remove more and more fun every patch. Wondering if it's even allowed here.

They do care enough to spend so much time creating these champions, and moreover, their lore. In addition why would they make release skins for champions when they could just leave them as is? New champions make money. Lore does not, and so we never really see new lore. Maybe twice a year.

So you complain about ADCs doing brain-dead point and click burst damage from range, and then list Tristana as an example of a champ you like, despite her being probably THE easiest ADC in the game and having almost her entire kit be based around point and click damage?

Or Teemo, a purely point and click champion with virtually no mechanical depth?

Or Vlad, the very definition of a brain-dead "roll face on keyboard for damage" champion?

Or Jhin, who has been one of the top three ADCs for almost the entire season?

Dude, get the fuck out of here. You have no notion of what champions require mechanical ability (you had some in your list that do, like Orianna or Lee Sin), and just try to fool yourself into believing you're a special snowflake for playing the champions you play. I've proven that you blatantly lie about facts that go on in matches you've played to try to either farm upvotes or actually get champions you don't like nerfed.

I'm not sure if you're a troll, or if you're just really, really s-(I can't say this word because the sensitive flowers that make up the mods on this board will be sad if I do =C )-d.

Never said Teemo or Tristana were hard. But, for an ADC, Trist has the riskiest playstyle, since she jumps right on top of people.

As for Teemo, how many pro Teemo players do you see? His kit may not be hard, but using it properly is something that just about no one can do.

Old Vlad, maybe. New Vlad, not even close.

Never said Jhin was hard. Just said I enjoy him.

And uh, no champ in this game requires any real ability. You only have 3-4 buttons, and one of those is usually a passive or something you never use. The "fact" is that every champ in this game is beyond easy, but some take that to a new extreme. And I don't lie about anything -- you might not like the fact that whatever freelo champ you play is being called out, but none of my posts are lies.

Hahahahahahahah, holy shit, it's like you have no idea what you're talking about or something. What a fucking clown.

http://champion.gg/statistics/#?roleSort=ADC&sortBy=general.deaths&order=ascend

She's so risky that only three ADCs die less than her on average, despite the fact that she also has one of the least experienced playerbases.

Past laning phase Tristana doesn't use her W for damage. She uses it to reposition, and if a team fight is going her way, to W against fleeing low health enemies to kill them with her auto attacks.

As for Teemo, how many pro Teemo players do you see? His kit may not be hard, but using it properly is something that just about no one can do.

What do you mean by "pro" Teemo players?

Are you referring to Teemo players who play him in competitive? Because none really exist, but not for the reason you think.

Or are you referring to pros or high elo players who can play Teemo? There are many.

Pros don't play Teemo because he scales poorly, is awful when behind, relies on enemy mistakes to prosper, brings very little utility to a team, and is completely single target.

He's an awful competitive champ.

Old Vlad, maybe. New Vlad, not even close.

Q when it's off cooldown, W to avoid trouble, use your E when they are in range (just don't spam it like an idiot), use your R from the start so you and your team do more damage in the team fight.

That's basically it. He's a point and click faceroll champion. Easy.

I don't mind it though. I don't have micropenis so I don't hate people who play easy champions.

Never said Jhin was hard. Just said I enjoy him.

Now, if I could play Illaoi as a silver (back then), and not only win, but hard carry (against plats)... what's the issue?

Sona Ping1 votes

The issue is that both are low elo. Also, everybody drops games; being higher rated doesn't mean they always win and always go 25/1 every game, it means they win at a greater percentage.

"Just because you're a high rank doesn't mean you're good," Agreed, it doesn't mean they are "good". It does mean that they win more. It means Tier X wins against Tier Y and Tier X more often than tier Z wins against Tier Y and Tier X, so Tier X is rated "better" than Tier Z.

So when Tier X are the group that wins more than everybody else and even they can't win on the champion.... You start drawing conclusions.

If Riot only cared about money, they wouldn't have the free champ rotation, ip, or the ability to get chests for free. They also would only give skins to champs that have high playrates; never to champions who don't. You have to look at what they're already giving us.

Niyumi1 votes

If Riot only cared about money, they would do just enough PR work to make it seem like they care about anything else, and nothing more.

So, as for skins, let's look at that. How many skins does Annie have? Pretty close to a dozen by now. Bard's been out for a while now, how many does he have? Two? The champs with high playrates will always be favored in terms of skins, because that's where the money is.

And uh, IP, free rotation and chests are all there to try to get you to spend money. IP takes forever to grind, but you can skip that process with RP. Free rotation lets you try champs you might go out and buy. Chests get you hooked and entice you to spend money to get more.

How to play against Vel'Koz (From a sometimes Vel'Koz player)

  1. Never assume you are safe at range. Vel'Koz's greatest strength is his long rang.
  2. Keep your eye on your passive stacks. Vel'Koz's abilities honestly deal almost no damage, its the 3 hit passive that actually lets Vel'Koz kill.
  3. If you can stick to Vel'Koz, you can kill him. His E is his only reliable peel move.
