Why is ori suddenly considered op, you guys called her balanced a month ago

Mody bird··138 votes·6,724 views

I remember a thread popping up a month-month and a half ago that said "who is the most balanced champion" and one of the top comments with a lot of up votes was Ori. But now out of the blue someone calls ori op and it gets a bunch of upvotes now a new bandwagon begins. Why

There are not only 50 - 100 people on these boards. Just because 50 people think orianna is balanced, doesn't mean another 50 people can't think she is not.

I'm starting to believe you just chill in forums instead of actually playing lol

Chilling in the forums is pretty fun tbh.

Can't say the same to the game sometimes.

The truth hurts.

When I started playing the game I spent like 5 hours a day reading about all the champions and items, and maybe play one game every other day.

So me. I love talking about balance much more than playing the game itself lol.

I like theory crafting but my friends don't play much anymore so I just sit in silence.

There's an old joke that all the people on Boards/Reddit are just burnt out silver players who just complain about the game without actually playing it

TricolorStar32 votes

Here's why: With the recent release of Dark Star Orianna, many avid Orianna players (myself included) emerged and began reminding everyone of how powerful Orianna can be. With Ahri getting nerfed and LB having been in the ground for a few months, people have gravitated towards a new mid-lane mage to complain about.

But here's the thing: Orianna is not OP, and provably so. Her winrate is not outrageous, neither is her damage. Her CC relies on a powerful engage on her team (like Malphite or Vi), and against even a semi-mobile target her ball's damage output is neutered. She is more of a mage/support mix. She starts out as a decent lane bully but as the game progresses she transitions to a more CC-oriented, utility mage.

Admittedly, she can be frustrating to play against because it's easy to forget where her ball is and take easy damage. But that is inherent in her kit, not a flaw in design.

That frustration can be magnified when you're use to running into an Orianna maybe once a year then everyone starts playing her.

Dream High16 votes

And the cycle continues. Sounds similar to the defending of Ahri when she was starting to get insanely popular.

Orianna is a lane bully that is strong at every single point in the game. Her ult supposed to utility but most Ori players use it as a nuke. scales decently.

"Orianna is a lane bully that is strong at every single point in the game. Her ult supposed to utility but most Ori players use it as a nuke. scales decently."

Orianna is not a lane bully. She can be abused as hell early game, her range is not abnormally high and other midlaners can do zoning better than she can. I don't even play Orianna and I think she's balanced.

People always come up with the "Her passive makes her OP in early trading" but they always forget she literally has the LOWEST BASE AD IN THE GAME, to make up for it. It's only until the mid/late game when it becomes effective and even then, you do NOT want to be in AA range.

Her ult is supposed to be utility? Which part of her ult is utility? Her "displacement"? Her ult is SUPPOSED to be a nuke, it's SUPPOSED to do damage. That's what mid lane ults are (mostly).

Orianna is not a lane bully.

I could go on forever, what the hell is your point?

3TWarrior4 votes

I think they meant to say that Season Six broke the game XD

there weren't nearly so many balance problems until EVERYONE could delete someone like an assassin with thunderlords or hit as hard as an on-hit warwick or etc

The Great Divide3 votes

If you get the double damage on Anivia's q, she doesn't need to AA (just saying that that's how it usually goes for her TLD proc). And all of these combos do as much, maybe even more than ori's q>w>aa. In fact, ori already has less damage than plenty of mid laners.

It's just late game, any mage will chunk a squishy ADC... So I agree wholeheartedly with your post

cuz if they nerf champ A then champ B becomes relevant now champ B is worth bitching over

it is just one never ended circle jerk of tears. if urgot was #1 win rate people would cry he is broken or op just cuz he is #1 with out looking at why and what factors caused that.

orianna is as good as the player who is playing her... if you are really good she is STRONG as hell if you are ok she is just ok. her skill directly reflects the person's skill of who is playing her

I cannot agree with this enough. Made a post that sounded almost exactly like this recently. Got downvoted into oblivion by angry people that demanded Ahri nerfs. v.v

oSEXYPLATYPUSo6 votes

the thing is majority of the "community" and i use that word loosely ... are all bias to what happen to them right now in a game... or they see something like a champ with a slight above average win rate even if their play rate isnt super high ... and complain about them even though you would go look at the last month of that persons match history and see either A) they havent faced that champ but once or twice or B) that one champ just dominated them for whatever reasons in a game recently ... half the shit on the boards is propaganda and when you state something that is true... the sheeple dont like it , they look at it as 'fake news" hmm sounds familiar huh?

Melledoneus16 votes

Well, there are three things you need to remember about these boards.

  1. Most issues are divided. The boards are not one entity, and treating it as one will frustrate you.
  2. Peoples' minds change. Orianna starts being played more, people don't like her, they change their mind.
  3. Most posts you see are a mix of upvotes and downvotes. Keep that in mind.
Salson9 votes

Most posts you see are a mix of upvotes and downvotes. Keep that in mind.

Wish they would just show both numbers to us, a -5 post could be a 100/-105 post which is a different story entirely.

NineTailedMystic3 votes

FEK is an add-on you can download that does this along with a ton of other stuff, although it looks like the Boards people are looking into improvements for us here and that's one of the goals.

SweedishGunner14 votes

I've believed she's been a bit overtuned for ages now. She's an absolute pain in the arse to lane against.

VeniVidiVictory13 votes

I don't see the need to nerf her (and not because I'd consider myself an Ori main). Her winrate right now is sitting just under 50% and she has solid damage, yes, but it is also all very easy to predict and avoid with many champions you'd face in mid having the ability to outrange the max cast distance of the ball. Most the time when I get kills with ori, it's because they didn't respect the ball or simply weren't paying attention and find themselves being ulted to oblivion. The most op thing about her is she can reliably fit into pretty much any comp. That and early death by auto dmg is honestly a bit dumb. could be dialed back on the ratio a tad or her attack speed even would be better. It starts at .66 which is fairly high honestly.

Orianna will always be defended by people who think that anything that is not point and click deserves to be inherently much more powerful, even though not anything ground breaking in terms of difficulty.

Hell, people often called her a medium range mage, even though she functions from at least 800 range, upwards to 1100 for her E.

LeagueOfJhin14 votes

I don't play Ori and I think she is balanced?

Voluug137 votes

800 range IS medium range mage, at least in a lane where champions like Lux TwistedFate Xerath Ziggs KogMaw Zed exist.

800 range might seem a lot on top/bot but on midlane is mediocre at best.

50000000000000004 votes

Are you saying Zed is long range?

Voluug137 votes

On his combo? Yes.

That his combo was nerfed because a long range waveclear combo on energy is completly busted, that is another thing. Unlike most mid assassins Zed was completly capable of out-trading anyone that tried to waste mana harassing him.

50000000000000004 votes

His W has 650 range. His waveclear combo needs him to get close to the wave first.

If you're talking about W-Q, that's 1550 range, sure. But it does less damage beyond the first target hit, and it also has pretty low base damage compared to other artillery mages. His W has a long cooldown, so it's not easy to reliably poke with W-Q.

Voluug136 votes

Because it was intentionally nerfed for being busted.

Before he could practically take out 50% of your hp on Thunderlord's release.

Statikk Succ 11 votes

Because ahri is finally getting nerfed and the witch hunt moves on to the next good mid lamer lmao

ZeichiVos10 votes

You hear that, boards? The whispering winds of shit... Friends, a shitstorm is brewing in this thread...

Danjeng8 votes

Orianna isn't especially oppressive to play against, but it's undeniable that she's been dominating the meta for a long time. I have been seeing a LOT of Orianna lately. In fact, she's probably the most common mid laner I faced against these few patches.

She offers a good amount of utility. But she also has surprisingly high damage and good trades, despite having so much presence in team fights. A single good Orianna ultimate wins fights, which win games. In short, she's more OP than she is UP, but not overwhelmingly so. Though I'm a bit tired of seeing her so often. Especially since some of them are just plain bad and don't give a challenging fight.

Yordle Xayah8 votes

The game is not what is was a month ago, and by June 25 it won't be what it is today.

Farewell. [slayer-pantheon-rainbows]

SB Arneeman7 votes

Orianna has been balanced for a long time. The reason she's strong now, is that a lot of other midlaners got nerfed. She's also a safe champion that works well with a lot of teamcomps and playstyles. However, I would not say that she's op, she has clear counterplay isn't that hard to use.

Fisher No Chains5 votes

The only nerf I'd like to see to Ori is a revert of her last buff (Q mana cost from 50 to 30/35/40/45/50).

God, that 30 mana Q spam at early levels is fucking annoying. She should't be able to zone and bully me in lane while also scaling extremely hard.

Voluug135 votes

It has 800 range which is mediocre for midlane.

Unless you are playing melee assassin where I can say I blabantly dont care because this game needs more melee assassin counterpicks.

SnakDatSmilesBak1 votes

Someone like Annie has mediocre range. Ori has slightly above average range.

Voluug138 votes

Annie is very short ranged for a mid mage.

Ori is above, but that doesnt mean she doesnt have mediocre range for a mage.

SnakDatSmilesBak1 votes

Ok I can see you're right here. I guess I used Annie as an example since she used to be considered the average mage waaaaaaay back when.

Voluug133 votes

She was never considered the average mage, she was considered the beginner mage.

CyberBalt5 votes

Yes, there's no such thing as differing opinions I guess. Everyone on the boards holds exactly the same opinion.

Spacesuit Spiff4 votes

If i had to guess, its bc of the recent tournament.

Need Gold 4 Tent2 votes

I don't really know much about Orianna exactly, but usually if nothing changes on a champ but it becomes OP, it is because either their counters got nerfed, or their counterparts (in this case, other mages?) that used to be the more "OP" picks got nerfed , making them become the new "OP".

Zielmann4 votes

Don't forget item changes, too. And not necessarily just those Ori uses, but also those available to build against her.

arc952 votes

I've said she was broken for months true damage with flat pen and an overloaded kit with an ult that does Syndra level damage but aoe
