Seriouslly. Adc's dont even have good build diversity. Dmg and Crit and Attack speed plus trinity. Where are our 400 hp defensive/offensive/utility items? Why is Frozen mallet such a bitch to build? Where is our Hourglass item that gives us 45 armor, 120 ad, and an active that protects us from ridiculous pure dive comps that make the game unfun and impossible.

actually thats not far off. every adc has some sort of ap scaling. and every adc should buy at least 1 defensive item anyways. that defensive item might aswell be zonyas.
its not like its wasted on champions like, lets say varus. it would add 1% max hp damage to his w per stack, and 120 damage to his ult. not a bad deal.
same could go for mf, and tristana who also have ap scalings on their big abilities.
so well op. why dont you just build zonyas?

120 ap is still a lot of extra damage on the ap scaling abilities of certain adc. yes, not every adc has ap scalings where it counts to make the zonyas useful. but about half of them has.
of course its situational. ideally every item in the game would be situational. i didnt say you should buy it on every adc every game. but that doesnt mean you cant if you really want the active.

none of my adc's aside from kog'maw have ap scalings. and i am worried about getting flammed if i build it on him. I constantly think about it tho.

if you get flamed, just tell them the ap isnt wasted on him, and the active counters assassins. if they still flame, hit the ignore button.
ive built zonyas on varus in the past to counter a diving zed, because my team didnt know shit about peel. and it worked. i got flamed at too, but youve just got to roll with it.

In the current meta, and with a spell like cleanse availible anyway, zhonyas is clearly better.

would be better than Zhonya's. However, late game, AP champs are forced to sell it for a better item (AP or defensive), or they'll suffer having greatly lower stats than everyone else.

honestly hourglass should probably not exist in this game. it only enables cheesy ability interactions, especially with aoe abilities, and champions like lyssandra and fizz who have a second zonyas built into their kits.
look what it did to champions like morgana and fiddles. zonyas allows them to remove intended counterplay from their ults. by now they have been balanced around this ult/zonyas cheese startegy, and arent even functional without the item anymore.
imo zonyas active should be reworked into a shield or something like that. and the champions that rely on the item should get looked at to help them work without it.

Now for mages and other AP champs, abilities reign supreme. And abilities are hard gated by cooldowns and time. Added to that that a lot of AP champs have a stun or snare or something of that nature, and you get to the fact that most of the time, the only thing an AP champ needs to survive is that one skill to come off cooldown for them to stop the enemy and get away, and this is where a stasis that you can't be damaged in comes in handy
