The rework isn't a duelist or a diver.
IDK what he is, but he's not either of those things.
In spotlight he is labeled Juggernaut, though not in proper labels, it's uttered in the lines so it's questionable whether it was turn of phrase or proper labeling.
I think he's a mix of a skirmisher, a battle mage and a diver
He's not a diver in any way. He doesn't dive, he can barely move with his small dick dash. He's not a skirmisher at all, skirmishers usually don't have big AoE's and are better at splitpushing than teamfighting.
You think Yasuo and Riven are bad team fighters?
Better than some, but def not the best melees to take into a team fight.
They tend to be effective in 3v3 or lower situations
He has some diverish abilities, only noe battle mage ability, that being his ult, not enough mobility for skirmisher.
He's more like Garen and Darius, short burst of gap close, high impact on hit effect, able to stick to you.
So kind of a Juggernaut Diver.
He's whatever Riven is.

Seems like an off-tank/aggro soak if I had to guess.

he lacks base/scale tank stats to match the label..... imo he needs some major QOL updates (he's kinda clunky atm) and for his ult to not be pretty weak. his ult really needs to give him stats like at a guess idk for each q you land in ult he gains 10 armor and MR for the rest of the duration stacking to a max of 60 and for the inner parts of the Q if you miss you get half the bonus tank stat for each Q hit. and FFS can we get some fking numbers on his kit lolol. Ult says "bonus damage" like how much?? lol champ was clearly rushed a good 2 weeks before he was ready

He's a Juggernaut now.
OP pls understand Aatrox ISNT a diver, or duelist anymore. He's a Juggernaut, play him like one

Some juggernauts are duelists.
Aatrox isn't a juggernaut though. He's a tank. A really shitty one, but he got a really shitty rework, because the rework was apparently handed to a really shitty designer.
He seems to be a good jungler.
Built in sustain, mobility to get over small walls, Q is easy to land on jungle monsters and his W is possible to land if flanking someone.
Even good at diving with his ulti, even if he goes down with it he can drag himself outa towerrange.
And yes, jungler is now a class rather than a role, either one works there or they dont. ^^
The only thing left from old Aatrox is the revive that was moved from his passive to his ult.
Every other part of his kit is basically a new champion’s kit.
I think that was intentional, given their stance on old Aatrox.
Yeah I understand that his old kit was toxic, but they could just work on the toxic part of each ability instead of changing like 5/5 of his spells.
The drain tank that melts people fantasy is surely unhealthy, but working from that to make him more like a healthy AA-spells based bruiser instead of a caster juggernaut is not too bad of an idea imo :/
They kept saying that Aatrox was "Too unstoppable when he's strong". Funny enough, we never saw that happen, since they never allowed him to be strong in the first place.
He was garbage from release until his 7.5 rework. In his 7.5 form, he was still bad until the meta shifted away from ADC's.
Aatrox was a champion for five years, and was good for one short period towards the end. Funny enough, he didn't seem too overbearing.
IIRC he was super oppressive when he first released. Until riot gutted him, he was pretty crazy. That's at least what I've heard from videos that stonewall008 made about him
On launch he had 20% more attack speed from his level 1 passive and 40 more damage on his max rank E.
He still had all the problems you think of when you think of the OG Aatrox.
He was mediocre at best. People simply didn't know how to play him them because, on top of him simply being a new champion, players were worse back then.
I mean, drain tanks can be healthy, you just need to trade something for the sustain, whether it be base hp and resistances, like old aatrox, or damage.
The unhealthy part comes from when you have a drain tank that also does a decent bit of damage.

i dont know what riot is thinking this patch, its almost like kai sa rageblade, they nerfed rageblade because it was op on kai sa when they could of just changed kai sa numbers instead because now all the other champs that rely on rageblade is going to be affected because riot is trying to balance one champion, and just like what LS said, later down the road when kai sa is going to be weak because of rageblade nerfs they are just gonna buff kai sa's numbers and forget about all the other champions that got f*cked by rageblade nerf
He's still on hit oriented, mobile but not super mobile, and has displacements.
How is he on hit oriented? His Q is most of his damage output, and actively requires you to forgo autoing to set it up because of the ranges.
His abilities lower his passive cooldown. And his abilities cc enemies who are far away to close the gap. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HIT WITH THE BLADES EDGE.
Having a passive that procs on hit every once in awhile does not make him on hit oriented. Items that synergize with on hit builds like
are terrible on him because his abilities do most of his damage and set up the occasional empowered auto. People don't compare him to Riven just because he has some mobility and a 3-part Q, it's because he is designed with the same intent of mixing autos with spells. His identity went from a reliable on-hit Diver with a drain-tank fantasy to a spellcasting juggernaut with very high, very conditional damage. I don't necessarily think that is a bad direction for them to go, but it's definitely where they went with it and it feels very different.
Mixing autos and spells, is not Riven. It is a diver and it is a skirmisher.
It is a caster adc, it is an assassin, it some mages.
There is more to on hit than just Guinsoos.
He can use and does good with Botrk.
are all decent items as well. These are alsoon hit items.
His abilities, are cc and durability based with an emphasis on getting in close and not letting the enemy escape. If they try thats what his knock ups and chains are for.
Dude just came out. Give it time. I remember recently when Pyke came out, I fed on him, going something like 0-13. Everyone that played him fed on him. I thought he was weak. Two weeks later, I'm seeing Pyke hard carry games. A few hours is not enough to judge a champion's strength.
To be completely fair, he was at 47% winrate in diamond when I checked yesterday.
I think he's a very good designed champion, but slightly underpowered.
Remember when pyke got buffed? I do.
After he was buffed, you mean? Not to mention several champs that were giving him a hard time initially are effectively forced out of that lane now. . .
He just came out.
as i've said day one ever since his rework. his kit is weak, boring, and unfun to play as. The single reason he'll be played ever if he stays like this, is if he's just broken af and people play him for the free win. he's literally a champion with 1 ability, his ult and E are barely anything enemies have to worry about, his W is practically non existant, his Q is all he does. it's like a crippled riven. he's even less tankier than her lmao
Chill dude he just came out, give it a little while for people to stop messing around and wait until somebody finds a really good build on him. When they do find the right build then he will prob be really OP and people will call for nerfs. Either that or you can try different build on him to find what you like.
The live Design Team Need to Question themselves. HIS KIT IS HORRIBLE and he is way underpowered. Aatrox is a duelist aber cant duel any decent bruiser. [zombie-brand-mindblown]
And u know what the funny Thing is? He can only be playable by overpowered numbers on his skills
just checking the image
Thx!
Maybe play more than 3 games as him and wait a week before trying to claim anything?
Actually he's really strong if you learn to animation cancel some absurd combos, so his power is really gated to practicing combos.
Not sure why Riot went with that kinda design but that's how he is.
The problem is that Q animation is designed to not be cancellable. And, even if it was, the sweetspot in the first 2 qs are too far away to weave something in the process.
You can go Q initiation melee range Q E backwards for Q2 hit. This is of course assuming enemy doesnt back away, but you can do Q auto Q auto Q and land all 3.
He's the melee version of Aurelion Sol. His whole kit is just trying to keep you at arms length, but he's a melee champion so idk what to think.
Its funny cause when Riot builds a kit that doesn't work or flow well together they just slap massive amounts of damage onto it to inflate its winrate so it's "balanced"
Riot: So one of our champions has a weak kit ,what do we do? Oh I know, just give a minor buff to their damage.
Hes not a duelist. Hes not a melee carry. He doesnt scale off of AS. He is an entirely new champion. IDK what he is and what his niche is supposed to be, and granted it is only day 1, but he will more than likely get buffs, if not tweeks to hitboxes and skills.
Cant quite say the worst rework as winrate is not what makes champs good or not. Maybe he is just really bad though.
The
community frowns upon your assertion.
yes
thing is with his kit its very easy to land the edge of your Q , and that hits extremely hard , thus I do not find him UP , if anything his skills hit way too hard
