What people liked about old Malz vs what was kept

Liked: Space AIDS as main source of damage Silence Suppression %HP pool AD Malz (jungle?)

Kept: Silence Suppression Space AIDS but with gimped damage Voidlings

What players wanted from the update: More interaction between Malz player and Opponents beyond "I farmed wave and caught you with space aids. Ult"

What was focused on in update: 0 interaction voidlings (triple downed on) passive rework completely removing his main weakness (ranged poke) frontloading damage into voidlings - spells left uninteresting

What was removed in the update: Spell damage, space aids gimped, pool moved to ult with ults damage removed, pool is now tied to ult, making it borderline impossible to use on more than 1 person and only usable once per fight, AD scaling on voidlings completely boning AD Malz.

Riot, no one cared much for voidlings, at best you'd have people say: "eh... they're kinda cool i guess", so investing FARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR too much into the little shits was a poor move, and malz is clearly even more broken than before, so why not just rework him?

Just want to point out that the space AIDS get refreshed by his Q and R, so they're only nerfed if you just fire and forget them.

Before, Malefic Visions could function well without the refresh, but now it needs to be micromanaged, either with constant auto attacks, Voidlings, or refreshing. It is now more a tool directing your main damage, Voidlings, around.

Individually strong spells -> Spells that are only strong in a certain order and time casted.

Not a fan.

You realize Malzahar's ultimate has always relied on you casting his W and E first (both pre and post rework) to get the maximum effect out of it, right?

Besides which, immobile mages tend to have preferred rotations anyway, since they need to get the most out of their spells once in position.

You do realize the individually strong spells can be used in different ways and be effective on their own right?

New Malz can only pull off damage and damage only if he uses his combo.

Effective =/= Maximum

Clarification:

Old Q can be used to nuke, to double hit a banshee's veil holder, or to silence someone for 3 seconds.

New Q provides a reset for E and happens to have a double hit and 2 second silence attached to it.

Old W can be used to catch enemies, provides a castable sunfire cape to fight on, can deter enemies from chasing after you, or zone enemies from a certain part of the lane or from their tower.

New Pool is attached to his Ult and no longer can be freely cast anywhere.

Old E provided a good deal of damage on its own, which in turn made it easier to bounce while saving mana from other spells.

New E provides a little bit of damage and can only be amplified by delaying your cast for either Q or R (Conditional Combos)

Old R dealt flat damage, which in turn made him a squishy/assassin killer and complimented the % damage from his pool to make him a tank melter. It could also damage through QSS because QSS only negated hard CC, not the flat damage still attached to the tether.

New R is used to reset E or to hold enemies for allies to kill (dependence on team). QSS completely negates the damage for new R by allowing people to simply step off of the pool where all the damage came from.

Basically... Yes, old Malzahar did have a strong combo. However, even if he didn't do his combo, the spells were still strong and have multiple uses (Not just for damage).

New Malzahar is all about trying to bring out long term damage... But that is all he can do. The spells that make up his kit is literally just for damage and nothing else. If the silence or double hit wasn't there, the Q would still be used for the same exact thing as the current Q for example.

It may be just my opinion... But I find that extremely sad for a champion I used to love.
