Yet another example of Riot not balancing things -- for money.

"Oh, yeah, we're nerfing CoC and then we'll look at Hecarim and Vi for changes in a couple months."

... yet, as is usual, that's not the issue. The issue is that they can both build a Triforce into full tank and still kill people faster than they can react, with low cooldowns and absurd base damage. Both are hyper mobile as well. Then, combine that with massive AoE damage making them clear like gods... yeah, it's JUST CoC that makes them strong. Totally.

But then, balance isn't really what you care about. Vi has a new skin soon, and Hecarim has a lot of skins he could sell, so you gotta keep them OP and FOTM for a while, milk all the money you can, and then either never nerf them again (despite their issues still being issues) or repeatedly make placebo nerfs that don't even impact their issues (remember Ashe? You nerfed everything but her Q (which is her issue), and when she stopped being popular, you stopped making placebo nerfs).

Never once did anyone complain about Vi or Hecarim having a shield from CoC. Many times though, I've seen complaints / complained about dying before their ults wear off, or being killed by a Q>AA>E (Vi) or an E>AA>Q>AA (Hec).

Sure would be nice to have a company that gave a fuck about their game beyond how much money it makes them.

This makes no sense. There are dozens of other champions who could be OP at the time, and they also have good existing skins or new ones coming out. Gangplank got a skin. Why aren't they buffing the shit out of him to "milk all the money"?

True, GP did get a skin. He's still broken in the right hands, just not quite a free win anymore.

But see, thing is, if Riot always released skins on the popular champs / buffed champs (when they didn't need it) before a skin, then people would catch on, and Riot would have to stop. But, if they mix in other champs, then whales will be happy since they don't really pay attention.

In just about any other game, if someone is performing stupidly well, they would be hotfixed until the next patch changes things to bring them down to reality. But uh, you know, that doesn't make money in an F2P cash grab.

Funny ppl downvoted, but this is not new and several ppl who make content (streamers, league educators, etc) have brought it up.

Must be because your not a YouTuber or Twitch streamer.

But i agree it is a huge thing that is a factor in several balance decisions, not as often with recently released champs (use to be worse OP stuff releasing), now it's mostly keep a champ OP for skin sells if they are OP, or they are simply popular like Lux, Ahri, Lee, Zed, or Yasuo, that weeb friendly shit.

People just don't seem to want to admit it. I don't understand why, but that's just how it is.

This has been brought up time and time again.

There have been times where a champ has been commented on by Riot "Ashe is too strong at the moment" and then like a month later after skin was released, champ is then nerfed. It was not just Ashe, we saw it with other champions. Ezreal saw buffs, that several respected players stated were not needed, before Arcade Ezreal (although in Riot's defense was around Worlds, so this too might have contributed).

Now we are seeing it again, but with Vi. Riot has ADMITTED Vi is too strong at gaining xp or the efficiency of clearing the jg, however, expect an actual "look" at her in PBE or Patch Notes after release of skin, or if happens before it is obviously just too damn strong you cannot overlook it any longer (and will mostly likely be a tiny little nerf with compensation buffs so overall not a straight up nerf and may need follow up nerfs). Garen shred mechanic was a bit too early it seems to link to skin, same as Azir, but could be they think about this things long in advance.

Now, Ahri, Syndra, Orianna skins seems more about the popularity about this champions... then eventually they do go a bit OP, but these ones i've followed a bit closer as i play them more often than not and usually it is just when we get that "Cosplay" or "Fanart" hype phase. Had we waited on snow skins (instead of 2015 and sold it on 2016), then obviously Syndra being OP would have aided in that theory or to sales XD (but the fans are loyal enough to get skins even when Syndra was buggy as f). Ahri is one of those champs that is never S tier, or rarely there, but can virtually always be A tier, but her appearance or design is a "fanboys" and/or "otaku's" wet-dream waifu-warfare loyalty charge. So ahri will always have great skin on sale (some of us got rekt by Ahri's and that got us into using Ahri, to realize we really sucked to get rekt by an Ahri at every stage of game). Orianna is always a great pick at Worlds, but she is never been horribly overbearing and as such her skins seem more on the popularity side of things. Kind of how Teemo skins work, it's because he is such a "cute" champ that also tilts certain people and therefore you can continue to sell skins on the little bastard.

But the other champs, especially the ones that see great discrepancies in going from "B tier to S tier" or "FOTM" champs are the ones to look at to see the possible pattern of Riot keeping champs OP long enough for sales to go well before nerfing them.
