Why is it that when you build an item with Avarice Blade in the recipe, you lose the gold making passives? It just doesn't make sense to me that it's almost an insentive not to upgrade it early on. As Gangplank I always wait to upgrade it to Stattik shiv so I can get more gold on top of my Q bonus gold.

Edit: This has bugged me for quite some time now.

Ah, but if Statikk Shiv effect kills a target when you Q that target also provides Q bonus gold

then youd have to nerf Stattik Shiv, since it already gives movespeed, attack speed, crit, and a cool little shock that can crit. if it generated gold too, thats just too much power NOT to get it first or second item every game for ADCs (its one of the few gold generating items jsut not useful on a support, who doesnt build enough AD to use the attack speed or crit).

actually, avarice shouldnt ever be bought early on unless you plan on sitting in a farm lane. youre spending 400 gold on 2% crit. the zeal is almost always the better start to the shivv, especially in close games.

i guess im too used to the days when the gold-generating items never kept their GP5 passive. heart of gold into randiuns, philo stone into sureilas, kages into morello. Anybody remember bankplank? Teleport Gankplank top (when teleport was never used) - gp10 quints and seals, rush philo, kages, avarice and heart of gold, last hit with Q while ignoring the enemy laner for the next 10 minutes. be full ADC build at 30.

I think it is for the primary early game quick boost, because otherwise, as an item, it isnt worth much- a couple crits, and minimal mov. speed isn't worth all that much in some instances. However, it is very odd, and I agree with you. The gold generating passive should stick with the item.
