Luden's echo is suppose to be a built as a first item for poke. But no one ever does....

Luden echo passive falls off very quickly because it does high damage with very low scaling. This makes it strong early, but becames very weak as the game goes mid to late game.

Funny thing is I rarely ever see anyone build this item (I could be wrong). Much less build it as their first item. Hence, this brings me to the question...

What is wrong with Luden's echo? IMO seems to be the most attractive first items for mages.

Luden's is more for raw power, like Death Cap. It looks great on paper, but it's an expensive item that doesn't give much else to mages that need mana and CDR, as well as survivability.

Unlike ADs, AP mages are restricted to their abilities only for damage aside from a select few (e.g. Ziggs). Raw power doesn't help them that much when ADs can simply buy a Hexdrinker to survive their entire rotation and retaliate by 2 shotting with AA afterwards.

On top of that, the MS doesn't help much for most immobile mages chase/escape against League of Mobility champions.

Of course..Morello is the first cuz mana, good AP, CDR, etc...

The best AP item...then you can buy ECHO :p

I rush Ludens first on Xerath. Good use of Xerath's passive lets you do alright on Mana, so I go for the earlier damage and movement speed safety of Ludens. I've seen Annie players do similar strats, using autos and her Q to save as much mana as possible, then rushing Ludens.

The problem is that for most players it's not worth the trade off. Yes, you could micromanage your mana and cooldowns to try and squeak out a tiny advantage with Ludens... or you could have the same amount of AP, not have to worry about mana, and have half of your CDR all ready to go, plus Grievous Wounds.

If Morello gave 80 AP instead of 100 AP you might see the decision come up more often, but right now Morellonomicon is just an all around better item.

I rush Luden's after lost chapter on almost every single mage so it's fine. If I snowball I just sit on lost chapter and go for other items like banshee or liandries or zhonyas or void staff

I mean.... Both give 100 AP and morello is cheaper, easier to build, gives mana, cdr and grievous wound.

Not that I don't like Luden, but by the time I got budget to spend on an item, Luden's passive ap ratio is so low that it isn't worth it. I'd rather get rabaddon.

it's too hard to build Luden. You need 1250 for a large rod and 1100 for the recipe. Morello, on the other hand requires a total of 3 amplifying tome and 3 upgrades. So it's very easy to build it even when behind

If only Luden would cost 3k ...
