How to fix Caitlyn, inspired by a Camille Quote.

Arcyyy··30 votes·1,912 views

Camille "That antique of yours is quite poor at close range..."

Make Caitlyns basic attacks deal 50-150% dmg scaling with her distance from the target (50 being hes in ur fucking face, 100 being they're at ur max range, and 150 being they're on a trap.

It makes sense since shes a sniper with all the tools to remain at distance.

Is she really still a problem?

after the 6.16 nerfs I would really doubt it

Nah, we got Draven dominating the scene now. Seeing Tristana and Sivir on the rise too though and for some reason every Ashe I see does extraordinarily well.

Ashe For some reason? You mean Global Vision (Listed under utility mb), A Global CC Engage, Tonnes of Utility, Good Early, Decent-Mid and Late-game and viable build variety aren't enough reasons?

OyddAWqJ5r8 votes

Plz don't ever do that listing thing. I can make Kalista sound good using it lol.

Sexy Jack Rabbit2 votes

I don't see why listing the reasons WHY a champion is picked is a bad thing?

Ashe has plenty of reasons why she's always been a good pick in competitive. She doesn't really have any other outstanding weaknesses besides susceptibility to burst.

On the topic though, even Kalista can be decent given the right circumstances, hell she's actually a pretty decent pick right now.

She is really immobile, and, outside of her Ultimate, she doesn't really have reliable disengage tools, which is a big thing for an ADC.

Mentioning only the strenghts of any champions makes them seem extremely powerful, as most champions are balanced around having both strenghts and weaknesses. Weaknesses are as much of a balance lever as strenghts.

If I bring Nasus as an example, and say that he is almost unkillable, hits like a truck, and has one of the strongest slows in the game, most people who don't know him will be like "Woah, that sounds broken!", while most people who know him understand his weaknesses , and, overall, the price of those strenghts.

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

Except that their issue was that they were saying Ashe was being picked "For some reason", as in implying they do not know why they're picked, not "What are their strengths and weaknesses?"

I'm obviously going to list WHY THEY ARE PICKED not every single aspect of the champion.

If people asked "Why can Nasus be strong?" you wouldn't list their strengths? OP never said anything other then that they weren't sure why Ashe was being picked. So I'm going to list WHY SHE IS. If you think that means the champion is OP for having reasons to be picked that an issue of you interpreting something as that.

they never said they didnt know why ashe was being picked they said they didnt know why she was doing extraordinarily well

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

Which is the exact same thing unless you're some PC nerd who takes things WAY too Hyperbolic-ally.

The same reason why Ashe is strong, is the PARTS OF HER KIT THAT SHE IS CHOSEN FOR.

FFS People are so stubborn to just admit they're wrong.

OyddAWqJ5r2 votes

My bad. Quite the misunderstanding. You see I know what Ashe does as she's done the same thing for 7? years now. What I meant was i don't know why she's been seeing so much success now in this patch specifically since she's always been the same.

Dunno why there are like 3 different comment chains on that one remark.

The Listing Thing has a history on these boards of being used to make a champion seem OP, in lieu of an actual argument.

To be more specific, The Listing Thing is when you point out all of a champion's strengths without any discussion of their weaknesses. It can be used to make any champion sound OP, because all champs are roughly balanced, so of course you can list a bunch of strengths for every champ. Ezreal is pretty terrible right now, but he still has the same strengths he's always had; I coukd use the listing method to make him sound OP, too... but I'd be ignoring the reasons those strengths don't make up for his weaknesses right now.

To summarize, "Of course {{champion}} has strengths. All champions have strengths. Why do those strengths matter more than their weaknesses right now?"

That's the analysis that matters.

Ashe has plenty of reasons why she's always been a good pick in competitive. She doesn't really have any other outstanding weaknesses besides susceptibility to burst.

Immobility, lack of disengage, and a delayed aa steroid.

On the topic though, even Kalista can be decent given the right circumstances, hell she's actually a pretty decent pick right now.

I agree with Sleeper overall but I'm with you on this point. Skill curve is still a bit of an issue but Kali is doing well in pro play and isn't terrible for mere mortals.

I'm obviously going to list WHY THEY ARE PICKED not every single aspect of the champion. That's just a massive waste of time.

SleeperCell thinking I was saying she's OP was their fault for not understanding their own comment.

If people asked "Why can ____ be picked?" you wouldn't list their strengths?

Immobility is a Susceptibility to Burst. Her Ult is a reliable source of Disengage considering it's short CD. It's just a preferable engage and a Delayed AA Steroid is not an outstanding weakness as a lot of champions (ADC's specifically) possess them.

The original person you are referencing said "for some reason every Ashe I see is doing extraordinarily well."

It wasn't saying "for some reason Ashe is being picked." Although what you bring up is true and her kit is obviously related to her performance, I took his post to imply that Ashe wasn't anything super notable to him recently. However, he is personally seeing a resurgence and is unsure if it's because the meta has shifted to favor her as a pick or if he has just received a lucky set of games where Ashe has performed relatively well.

You right. But I feel like noone knows how to play him except the Diamond+ smurfs that occasionally appear in my games and go something ridiculous like 18/0

FantasySniper1 votes

Yes. Although Tristana has basically replaced her (because she's a great counter to Lucian and Jhin), Caitlyn still has a very high pick and ban rate, and very unhealthy flaws in her kit.

Torterra625 votes

she's not that big a problem anymore and this would make her terrible. this is a stupid idea

71060670DEL11 votes

She's not a problem in solo que, but they're going to keep nerfing her until she's not popular in lcs.

Torterra621 votes

well yeah i know that its just that making her deal less damage the closer you are makes almost no sense? so now how does she fight at all? aims for the adc even tho the frontline is right there chipping away at her? any champ with and engage would stop her from doing anything

Trap or a Trick3 votes

OR make her deal bonus damage based on how much the Caitlyn player wants to do?

/s

Skorch3 votes

Wait, isnt an ADCs weakness getting jumped on anyways? Like if you jump on a cait, she might E you, but unless shes really fed she is probably dead. This just feels unnecessary to me. Like if you want to nerf cait, this is not where you do it.

The5lacker1 votes

Implying you can jump on Cait in the first place.

Skorch1 votes

An assassin can jump on Cait, trust me. Their kits are designed around it.

The5lacker1 votes

And her kit is designed to prevent that from happening. The longest range ADC in the game has the most tools explicitly designed to prevent assassins from assassinating her.

And, you know, during the laning phase she'll have a support bringing their own CC.

Cait isn't a problem.

Cait traps are the only problem she has.

All of the problems she had were from traps, and Rito still didn't change anything about it, except for the scaling AD on them.

SummonersDrift2 votes

dude i was just thinking about an inverse-graves style adc 2 days ago! i agree itd be a neat idea! +1

tho i do not agree with your numbers, too feast or famine. 150% will get you ez pentakills while 50% you might as well be a minion. less extreme (but still impactful) numbers and its perfect. even suits the kit id say

She already does 0% damage at melee range because if youre in melee range she is dead.

Got any more dumb suggestions?

Remember, any minor nerf to your main is "Gutting" it.

OHminus2 votes

http://www.surrenderat20.net/p/current-pbe-balance-changes.html

combined with the AS nerf, this is pretty heavy.

Also, I don't main Cait, but I would rather face Cait than twitch. Cait and Draven going out of favor means that twitch is king of botlane.

Kariu Rena2 votes

Tfw gameplay board is still hardstuck on cait

Danjeng1 votes

Very interesting. Her net has good synergy with your suggestion, as it distances herself from enemies (while also setting up for headshot).

But if Cait trapped an enemy at point blank range it would still do 150%. What if traps only multiplied the current distance bonus. For instance, let's say 1.5x (I'm throwing a number here, I don't play her). So a point blank auto would deal 1.5x of 50%, or 75%. Perhaps the maximum range bonus (the very edge) could be upped to something like 120%. Trapping an enemy at maximum+ range would deal 180%. Note that this is an optimal scenario.

MysteriousBootie1 votes

tbh i think i might make more LOGICAL sense for her autos to miss from close range lol

I mean think about it, you try to use a scoped rifle in any fps in someones face it's awkward asf

Or in any real life scenario either dont use the scope, or use the Iron sights as many scopes dont flat remove them.

PrinceOfStorms1 votes

Or just give marksmen the Vanilla WoW hunter treatment and make them unable to attack enemies within 100 range.

U wot m8 cait noscopes u at close range hehe xd

Oriyoki1 votes

Stop caitlyn from NoScope360xXx420'ing all the time. If she goes further away, make her use the scope.

Mig891 votes

What if there was just a minimum range for headshots?

The5lacker1 votes

So your solution is to make her traps even more obnoxious?

DrCrackerr851 votes

or just give her runaans back and nerf ability dmg instead.... that idea isnt very good all you need is a tank with ritious glory to get in her face and she does 0 dmg or someone like zac. Either way with that idea she would be the most useless champ in the game.

The Deckowner1 votes

The problem with cait is not that you can't kill her when you are on her face, but rather the fact that you can't get on her face with the retarded traps and E head shot.

Judgemënt1 votes

Everyone is still complaining about Caitlyn when she relies on the enemy team incompetence to step on a circle but people are fine with Twitch destroying everything with his ult
