I have noticed that every '2' division has terrible matchmaking

Bronze 2, Silver 2, Gold 2, Plat 2, Diamond 2

Speaking from experience in gold2 and plat 2 and anecdotally from the others, I have noticed a trend in the matchmaking of these ranks. Games here seem horribly one sided and express vastly disproportionate skill levels. Games display an obvious winner within the first few minutes. It seems like the match is decided in the lobby.

This is my experience:

In season 6 I was placed in Gold 5

  • I shot to Gold 2 in a matter of days skipping Gold 4
  • I was stuck in Gold 2 for about 3 months, thinking I sucked and this was where I belonged
  • If I was ever demoted I climbed back to Gold 2 in a handful of games
  • Without any changes to my game I left G2 after a series of lucky wins
  • When my mmr reached Gold 1 games became 'harder' but were more equal and consistent
  • I climbed up to Platinum 2 with a 56% win rate
  • On the second last day of the season I reached Platinum 1
  • I won about 7 of 10 games, and ended the season on 94lp.

Now in Season 7 I have been placed in Platinum 2 and am experiencing the same thing that happened to me 1 year ago. Games are incredibly unbalanced and are decided very quickly. When I am demoted to Platinum 3 I climb back to Platinum 2 in a handful of games.

Has anyone else experienced this same phenomenon?

Edit: It is now the 4th time I have been demoted to Platinum 3.

The one thing I really want people to understand is that this is not a matter of coincidence. I am not complaining about losing a handful of games or an experience I had one week that felt unfair. This has been a continual occurrence for me over the past 2 years without fail.

Nope, can't say I am. I'm currently in gold 2, just hit promos, and the games are pretty satisfying.

I think it's just stats, tbh. There's nothing particularly special about any elo.

I think because it's when you deal with higher leagues. When I was in S2 last season I played with/against gold players and gold players with plat borders. At G4 I never experienced plat borders.

I have been stuck in a 50/50 in Bronze 2. I lost like 4 games on promotion, thankfully climbed up some, but lost more. Until bronze 2 I had a very steady/easy rise either thanks to me or my team. Now I am mostly a cancer hoping my team plays well.

That is an odd conclusion to come to. More likely, it's just coincidence. You just got stuck in those divisions (by playing at that skill level) at the beginning of a Season when people's MMRs haven't settled yet and matchmaking is somewhat less accurate. Also preseason tends to make things more wild and stompy. But it has nothing to do with those particular divisions. Probably. Idk, maybe there's a lot of people in division 1 of each tier who tilt massively while trying to make it to the next tier, and then the pass through division 2 during their tilt-fueled losing streak.

Last season I was placed in S2, but left it easily and got stuck in S1. I think it's just that you got better at the game.

Currently stuck between B3 & B2 and have been for a couple weeks. Get promoted and win 1 or 2 then a few losses and back to B3. Then pretty much immediately back into my promos for B2. I'm hoping the cycle breaks soon.

I typically look up lolnexus stats before my ranked games and noticed that you start getting placed in games with the next tier up at X2. In bronze 2 and 1 you are placed with silver 5 and 4. In silver 2 and 1 you are placed with gold 5 and 4 and so on. It isn't that the matchmaking is terrible, it is just that you are at the bottom end of the next higher elo of games.

maybe you're realising at higher ELOs that teamcomps actually matter more and teams can't continue playing full DPS comps

I believe that the 2 ranks comprise a strange intersection between divisions. In gold 3 for example, I would fly through each game with ease because the general skill level felt very low. At gold 2, the skill level felt distinctively higher, but the team that displayed this level of skill was random.

Maybe in Gold 2 matchmaking tries to grab people from both platinum and gold, has a hard time balancing each team, and this is why there is such a swing or dice roll.

Personnaly, I never had any problems with any "2" division, in fact, I was in Bronze 2, Silver 2 and Gold 2 at least once and always got through fairly easily.

the real problem are the "5" divisions

I am just gonna guess that the 2nd divisions are where people of a higher division come into play, only problem is that the people from lower in plat are still in play so one side just kinda gets stacked.
