What does it take to get allies to coordinate with their tank?

I love playing tanks. I love being in the front line. I love being the initiator. I love being the one to lead the charge, the one who calls the shots. I love being able to survive focused attacks for an obscene amount of time. I've sometimes lasted 30 seconds of an entire enemy team chasing me down, burning all of their resources just to eventually see me dead only to wind up erased by my allies.

I have no issue with items, honestly. I research cost effective builds and attempt to apply them to my situation. My personal favorite is combining Righteous Glory, Warmog's, and Deadman's Plate. If I need magic resist, Spirit Visage goes well with Warmog's and Righteous Glory because of the health regen I receive. I'm able to siege enemies perpetually with my builds.

My biggest problem I run into, however, is trying to convince allies to fight with me. Half the time, it doesn't seem to matter how strong our team fight potential is; they just don't want to group as five for an easy win. There's no need to prolong a game past 30 minutes if we're able to win one team fight and obliterate the enemy HQ in under a minute. But they almost never do.

What does it take to convince allies to fight alongside their tank?

I know how you feel. Im a tank/fighter main as well. Ornn and Cho are my favorite tanks.

I find that if you have a big bol dramatic engage (like a 5 man knockup malphite), people are usually pretty good at following up even in lower elos. That being said, it is absolutely imperative your allies are in position and ready to follow up. If you dont have all 5 you shouldnt engage into a 5 man team.

Your best solution is to communicate so your team knows and is prepared. Spam the red targeting ping/On My Way! right before the engage. Again, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that ALL FIVE ALLIES are in position beforehand.

It’s so true. The tanks I use are Ornn, Malphite and Shen. Luckily with Shen I can join the fight. But most the time I just hover as close as possible to whoever is strong on my team or has equal parts cc and damage. That way I can initiate for them while they go ham. It sucks when you know the most optimal play but people won’t group for it so the best thing we can do is be ready to make a play by staging next to key allies.

And this mentality is the reason why it's so hard to play a tank for anyone.

"Me carry, me reason me win, me no need no one but me"

It takes more than one. There's a reason 95% of all 4v5's result in losses. It takes a team, not just "me, me, me, me, ME!"

In most cases, someone has to initiate and whoever initiates needs someone to back them up. Sure, the ADC can pump out insane damage, sure the assassin can 100-0 the enemy squishy in 0.5 seconds, and yes, the mage can burst a target to grey screen with their combo. Every champion has their job and many of those jobs are made easier if not completely possible in the first place by the front line initiator.
