I think i understand why ppl complain about darius quite often, specially in lower elos

Because its a lot harder for you to beat darius than it is for him to beat you, assuming you're playing a melee lane.

Say you're playing someone like riven, for you to cleanly beat darius you have to play the lane perfectly and not fuck up a single trade, extend 1 trade too much and you have to pay with flash, extend 2 and you die and lose lane, and even when darius is 0-3 he can rush ninja tabi and still destroy you with ult if you fuck up a single trade if he ever gets to 5 stacks.

Add junglers to the equation and you can see why he creates quite of unfun experiences, even more for players who arent prepared to deal with it, and honestly even in diamond i feel like i have to work so much harder to beat a darius compared to what he has to do to win a lane (basically just get into his 5 stack minigame to win regardless of how poorly hes doing).

Funny you bring up riven when she absolutely 100% shits on not only darius, but almost every non tank melee top, and a bunch of tops.

Shes 52% wr while being 2nd most popular champion.

And shes one of darius's worst matchups.

She has a spammable shield which is pseudo-sustain.

Darius should never land a Q on a half decent riven unless he burns an apprehend to secure it, which would ultimately fuck darius hard for the next 24 seconds anyways. The only thing darius has thats better is level 1. After level 3 riven takes away the whole game.

don't forget he doesn't necessarily need to land a Q for his damage. He can just auto her a couple of times in a short trade and still come do some good damage

The only time darius ever wins an auto trade of any sort is level 1 and MAYBE level 2

auto trading afterwards is suicide because riven has way more anim cancels and all of her autos are empowered with proper spell management.

in the end i don't think u even need to play darius to understand this matchup. Riven has all what's needed to beat darius... except sustain maybe. She decide when the battle happen or not, i can't see how Darius could apply his 5 stack, if the riven is decent (yet a missplay can happen).

At least in low Elo, where Riven doesn't actually need much skill to snowball. It's more fear of Riven that makes her terrifying in low elo.

that's basically juggernauts in general

because they're kinda sluggish champions with limited range the majority of them are EXTREMELY good at punishing you if you misstep or spend too long in their threat range. Darius in particular because he's the biggest lane bully of the group besides Yorick's level 2/3 cheese. you give darius stormraider's or ghost and you're probably gonna die if he prevents you from disengaging a trade gone bad

I don't think it's necessarily correct to hate his design (obvious bias here, of course) but I can definitely understand why a lot of people hate dealing with him

Ok but OP is fucking way off the nail here.

If darius dies even once to riven she will absolutely snowball him into oblivion. Riven was a terrible example seeing as so long as youre decent on her darius is one of her easiest matchups.

I was playing Maokai top lane the other day against a darius, did perfectly fine against him, until my jungler tried to gank with less than half hp while daruis was lvl 6. He ended up killing us both due to the heal from his q, afterwards i still was beating him fairly easy, until jg failed at another gank going in and towerdiving while he was full hp and I was half. At that point it was a bit ridiculous to even try to trade against him.

Its no so hard with her mobility and cc. She decided the fight happen.

will sound like a d... but they complain him in lower elo because they're bad in all aspect (gameplay, decision, knowledge, arrogant...). Darius is annoying but at some point all champ except your is.

I dont like playing against darius, but I think his kit is good designed (the values may be of, Idk), when he outplays you, you know what your mistakes were, and so on

I think he is ok and propably needs no changes

It's harder to fight against him alone unless you are duelist... to be admit... playing Darius is kinda bored and much harder to play than kat.

Edit: use Yorick if you want to win against Darius easily.

The problem is how his Q interacts with melee champions (Camille has the same problem with her W, though it isn't nearly as powerful). If you go into melee range to avoid the blade, you take a bunch of damage, and then he hits you more. If you go out of melee range to avoid taking a bunch of damage and then getting hit more, you get hit by the blade for a stupid amount damage. There's no positive choice for the player to make. The only solution (without changing his abilities) would be to make the handle and blade to very similar damage (and then reduce overall damage), though I really do like the idea of abilities doing different things based on ranges and zones.

I hate playing against Darius as ANY melee top laner, that's mainly the reason why I just play Mordekaiser and all the others are ranged.

I used to be able to lane against him as Kennen but then his ultimate nerfs destroyed that possibility. Jayce is SOMETIMES possible, but doesn't always work. And Urgot, well, is Urgot.
