Jetridder111 votesI read somewhere from Riot that, you will not be able to get demoted from tiers(silver to bronze, gold to silver, etc) once the season ends and the preseason begins. If they went back on that, I don't know.

Higher MMR in the preseason = higher MMR in placements(aka, higher your mmr in pre season is the higher you'll be placed out of placements)
However, rank is not equal to MMR. If you were Gold V and never went to silver because it wasn't allowed, you could lose 100 games and still have Bronze V MMR. The same as if you could decay.
Regulas1 votesBeen awhile since I looked at the math but it was pretty minor advantage (cause it's less then 1 for 1 by a lot) and the placement matches are so small in number they can be skewed anyway.
