Stonebound is the strongest but least used Resolve keystone. Why?

In a lot of my games, I always see tanks taking either Grasp or Courage over Stonebound and I always ask myself why. Especially when they build Stoneplate or play as supports. On champs who applies tons of CC like Naut, you'd think Stounbound would be a must due to the massive and constant healing but more often than not I always see them take Courage. Same applies to tank J4 where Grasp is favored when Grasp is the least impactful keystone in the game imo. So why wouldnt you take Stonebound?

Stone bound is less helpful for you, and needs your allies to basic attack to get the effect.

The ones who use it are the ones who can really abuse it like Chogath

There are a few champions who can really make use of it due to its nature. Tanks like Alistar can use it or oddball supports like Bard. But after that, you start losing heal/shield/damage. Lulu and Janna could but they'd lose their shields and health. Annie and Brand could use it but you lose burst. It's just an overall bad keystone that only really fits a very select few champions.

I know and I wasnt trying to imply the champs like the ones you listen should take them. But if you're going tank J4, Naut, Cho, or any melee champ that applies constant CC, why wouldnt you take Stonebound?

Answer is simple, late game that %HP drain every 4 seconds adds up fast, espeicially on champions like cho and Zac. Tanks are unkillable in 1v1, maybe even 1v2 due to that drain. Not all tanks, but people like Skarner, Zac, Sejuani, that HP adds a lot of hurt.

Because it doesn't expressly benefit you. A lot of times you want a particular mastery to help you in lane, and Stoneborn can only do that for supports (again though, not directly affecting you)

The 5% additional health does benefit you but even then, Grasp and Courage has as much impact in solo lane as Stonebound. The latter however has a much more significant presence and the positives it provides far outweighs it's counterparts.

People tend to undervalue team-utility in favour of personal combat strength.

I take it on nunu taric and braum. It works great on peel supports. Also any tank with a health steroid.

Could have soemthign to do with the fact that if you are a ranged support (the most commonly used support type) its only half as good, literlaly... read it, it only gives you half the bonus.

Or you could read past the title to see that I wasnt even implying Stonebound on ranged supports.

Ciourage of the collossus gives a flat shield, plus 5% of yoru max health as a shield when you cc someone, as a tank you need to be in the front lines CCing someone, why woudl i ever take 5% more health when i can have 5%+flat bonus that procs agasint all damage while in a teamfight?

And why do i want 5% more health when i can have an attack that heals me for a % of my health every 4 seconds?

The fact is stonebound is in fact one of the weakest, and most useless keystones in the game, 5% more health doesnt stop vayne, or fiora from gutting you for a max health % in true damage, it doesnt stop mundo from keeping me perma slowwed while chunking me, it doesnt help agasint prolonged damage or in lasting fights... No, i want somethign thats goign to give me a REAL bonus when im playing support, 5% more health is nothing.

The pact might be. The item 3504 off it isn't.

People don't understand item 3504 + Stoneborn Pact = Profit.

ok so for a champ like maokai - who is engaging alot and is top lane having the shield that procs on your cc *based on your HP and how many enemies you are around * keeps you from taking alot of damage so CoC is ideal and if you engage with ult and cc multiple of targets and dive in you have a big shield that sustains alot of damage

as far as maokai support stoneborn pack is better cuz when you cc someone your adc in lane can heal off that target based on your HP but if you are ranged with your cc it reduces the healing giving back

they both give you +5% maximum HP

now grasp in you are in lane and in regular combat can give you some sustain and provide a lil bit of extra damage based off of your HP but its after you have been in combat for 4 seconds. and for a champ who dont have natural sustain but needs to do damage and typically are AD with damage having this keystone provides you with sustain from the passive while giving you some magic damage

I'll be honest with you, I've never noticed Stoneborn when I've used it. Not once.
