@Meddler, next champ when?

Arcyyy··5 votes·26,827 views

It's been about 2 months since Camille debuted on the PBE. I recall a red post saying that Galio will come before the next champion, so I was expecting a Galio rework teaser today, but sadly, no gargoyles were shown. This means that the Galio Teaser will be at a minumum of 2 weeks from today, and obviously a 1 cycle gap between a rework and a champion. So basically, will the next champion actually take almost 4 months after Camille's release to be released on live?

There'll be a significantly bigger gap between Camille and the next new champ than normal. Another VGU (Galio) will indeed be in the middle there, that doesn't mean Galio's going to follow immediately on from Warwick though (Galio's soonish, but not really soon).

As an adc main I'm terrified of new Champs since Camille release now.

But without the item, Ahri wouldn't be a support. With it, she definitely is!

yeah i meant it gives all supports true damage

Dunno if you've noticed, but almost any champion can easily gapclose on and 1v1 an ADC. Camille isn't exceptional in that regard.

Is the new Champion ready for testing or is the gap mainly because you want your teams to focus on Galio?

Jeddy0172 votes

New Champs & VGUs are handled by entirely different team. So Galio shouldn't be having an affect on the next new champ release. Meaning that the gap is likely a result of the new champ not being ready yet.

Someone hopefully not as unbelievably toxic as Camille please? I thought Riot was taking a break from these disasters after it was mentioned a while back that you wanted to be working with simpler kits.

Also mentioned a while back, (3 years ago by Statikk, 2 by Morello, and 5 months ago by Cezium to name a few) was that Riot recognized mobility creep as a problem - primarily around the time you released Kalista...as if you didn't anticipate what that passive would do, but I digress. Since then, we've seen mobility metastasize and grow out of control, and with new overloaded, hypermobile releases like Camille's and unhealthy reworks like Fiora's, along with the existence of Protobelt as if you thought the answer for non-mobile champs was add more mobility, it shows you still don't have plans to stop this nonsense.

And that's just the topic of mobility, I could describe the power-creeped chaos you all seem to love seeing as unnecessarily overstuffed kits and percent health and / or true damage for no reason to go with their mobility in addition to Keystones still being in the game despite breaking the already damaged balance of the game and adding absurd power to everything, but I feel like you get the idea.

So with the rant out of the way, what's the plan here? When is League going to be fun again? Or should we expect more "Camilles," even more Keystone power, and more flashy bullshit since your LCS streams seem to have lower views recently?

Umm... did you ever play against her before the rework? Her rework was fantastic.

You've mentioned this gap several times before, and I'm curious why it is. Was this planned ahead of time or did there just happen to be a period where your new champ teams are working on particularly long projects?

RiotMeddler7 votes

Planned. We've had long gaps between champ releases in the past due to unexpected issues cropping up, and I imagine that'll happen again at some point. In this particular case though we felt it was worth delaying a new champ release a while to buy us the time to work on some stuff we otherwise wouldn't have the people for for a bit.

Everyone up voting on forums for Riot to fix other issues and focus on other things before new champion releases. Riot focuses on other things people start asking questions and lose their shit.. :)

Keep up the good work. I've bs'ed you guys in the past, but i really do have faith in you. You guys have done awesome work and im excited for what you have planned for the future (maybe a completely different game is in the works? ;D)!

Thank you, and may Teemo protect and watch over you! ......

interesting, can you say what they are working on? hard to think of what a champ design team could do for you guys that isn't champ design. other than VGUs or other kinds of art updating

Can we still expect 5 or 6 new champs total this calendar year?

This kinda makes me sad. I was hoping the next new champ would be an ADC. Its seems you guys have been trying to get a new ADC out every year. So I was just hoping.

Also can I get enlightenment on Aatrox? Like is he just on hold until a rework? Please and thank you.

2006 Kia Spectra4 votes

I don't see anything in that quote suggesting the new champ won't be an ADC.

So we are to expect at least 2 months without new content and just gameplay balance patches? O.o that sounds a bit boring :S

I can already see the surrender@20 post stating

I'm still calling it either March or maybe April for Galio.

Trenitaliyah2 votes

Honestly, the last new champions were released all too close one to another, therefore they didn't shine at all. It seem'd all made with rush.

No one remembers Kled , no one has taken Ivern seriously, some forgotten and weak Taliyah , same as AurelionSol . Maybe the long break it's worth, also especially because reworks are more important and more interesting than new champions actually.

Sexy Jack Rabbit3 votes

There are few arguments about you opinions on champions. Taliyah isn't weak, people haven't forgotten Kled, A lot of people DO take Ivern seriously etc. But I do agree with you that 2016's champions were all pretty lack-luster. I felt there wasn't enough time and content between each release.

The only one that stood out was Camille and that was because Riot had no clue what they were doing.

YumaS2Astral2 votes

I am still trying to understand that: Aurelion Sol was probably the most hyped champion in the entire game (everytime there was a new champion release people would say "it is Ao Shin", and it took three years for him to actually be released). Yet, he is now "Urgot" tier in terms of how much people play him or even remember that he exists.

KorZod1 votes

He's Urgot tier? The dude is picked in LCS all the time, and had to be nerfed several times because he was so strong. The only person who plays him in NA is huhi really, but in LCK he's picked all the time because a good Sol pressures the entire map all at once and outputs absurd DPS. As for his playrate Mid, it's right next to Jayce and Kennen (around 1.2%). Maybe not as popular as Ahri and Lux who sit at 12%, but way above Urgot who's at .4%, disregarding that there's 19 ADC's and 47 possible midlaners.

(stats via champgg)

YumaS2Astral1 votes

He is Urgot tier in terms of being picked in SoloQ. It has nothing to do with his strength, or with how much he is picked in pro play.

KorZod1 votes

... I literally just showed you that he is picked 3 times as often in a lane role with far more alternatives

Sly Linc1 votes

Jhin is 2016 my friend.

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

True, true my bad. I was never one to like him much, but I recently really started adoring his character. I do love Jhin, but my point still stands. Iirc he was the first champion last year, and around his time there wasn't much around the time of his release, so he naturally took front stage.

Unfortunately He didn't exactly stand out on release. It was considerably mediocre and he ended up having multiple new interactions added later. He did pick up after one or two patches, but still his release was only a little bit above Taliyah's. I think the only reason he caught a lot of attention was because his release was so welly teased, but only to a degree of say Sion's rework. Other than that his release was still pretty 'meh' compared to previous releases, and only picked up after he was adjusted over 1 - 2 patches.

CaSH LANCE2 votes

what? "some forgotten and weak" the hell? AurelionSol and Ivern have HIGH win rates in diamond/master/challenger are you crazy lol they're like top of the charts. same thing withTaliyah at one point before she got gutted. kled is actually a good pick as well.

Sexy Jack Rabbit2 votes

Taliyah is disgustingly strong in the hands of mains. The "Gut" was more so just balancing her outrageous base damages and DPS. She still has some of the grossest bases in the game, and that's coming from someone who mains her on the side.

Aurelion Sol is one of my absolute FAVOURITE champions, and I think it's stupid that people call him weak. He's weird, ok? He's got weird mechanics, but when you get the hang of him, holy hell is he fun! And he does insane damage too.

CoolKnightST2 votes

I would rather see taking their time with champions. The wait on Warwick was definitely worth it.

I would rather not see another Shaco failure...

CaSH LANCE1 votes

maybe its just you the one that sucks on shaco.

Dessem3 votes

Didn't Shaco jump to the top of jungle winrates after his mini-rework?

KorZod1 votes

Due to crazy high damage, not his new kit mechanics. I think he's in a pretty decent spot now tho

Dessem1 votes

Sorry, just seen people refer to Shaco's rework as a failure because he "is so weak now" when he became a top-tier jungler after his mini-rework. He's still sporting a top 5 winrate, which is understandable considering he is one of the few assassins who weren't "slowed down" with artificial windows, and like Ekko he can build tank and just provide utility for his team. (Shaco clone also helpful at just absorbing skillshots.)

I think he's still flawed, but that's because I inherently dislike the idea of an assassin with zone control, hard CC and general utility.

CoolKnightST1 votes

It doesn't even have todo with it's numbers. It are the changes overal that are done with him. Take the boxes on his ult for example. If you can't take that as a failure in it's current state I don't known what it. They just rushed it.

Hexs Fortune1 votes

It's interesting that you guys are reworking galio before the tank overhaul

DwarvenGiant1 votes

Well, a different team has been working on him individually since around Summer 2016, similarly to how Ryze's VGU was released a couple of months after the Mage Roster Update (despite him being considered a Battle Mage and part of the Mage class).

Still, Galio will very possibly receive some changes to his stats again with the Tank Roster Update.

Carnicore2 votes

Galio went into production months before the tank overhaul was decided upon.
