Anybody else feel like Kalista's passive is just asking for trouble?

I mean I'm pretty sure that this passive was just a bad idea to begin with

Fun?Yes balanced?ahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahahahahahahahah ha no

I feel like sometimes Kalista's entire kit has to be tuned down around her passive so she doesn't become broken as fuck

well she cannot cancel her auto attacks so you can easily stun her to be honest, only REALLY good kali players should be feared otherwise well she is meh

It's possible for her to be a fine champion if it was just her passive But it wasn't In typical CertainlyT fashion, a single ability that sounds completely champion-defining and borderline broken was only the beginning.

Kalista's passive is broken, but its what defines her. I think as long as she has it they need to gut other parts of her kit. but the way they are gutting her is just awful. every adc needs something busted about them. kalista's ultimate is way too good for competitive play on an adc who is already a beast in the right hands.

i think a mini rework where they give her a less useful ultimate would make her more balanced. right now her support gets a free engage on top of heir engage. alistar/kalista is the nastiest shit. nautilus? watch out.

Preach it bby. Eventually they will all learn.

... Kalista is currently at one of the lowest win rates as an ADC.

If they took the passive off her W, I think she'd have a weaker laning phase, and not AS MUCH as a problem and they could return her to a fair pick instead of either broken or "meh" tier.

A lot of people give CertainlyT crap, but he is one of my favorite champions designers. He creates champions that are always fun. Kalista, Yasuo, Thresh.. They're all so fun to play. Thresh is in a good spot right now, and so is Yasuo. Sure, maybe they are broken at release, but...

Try to remember Vayne's release. (thanks Volty >.>)

Kalista is currently in a "meh" spot. Honestly, I think she's OK and I can play her fine. Other people complain.

Just my share of conversation.

Not her W passive I mean her passive passive

And.. I meant her W passive. Her passive passive is what makes her unique and fun to play imo.

W Passive: When Kalista is near her Oathsworn, she gains +[0]% Attack Speed. If they both basic attack the same target, she deals 5/7.5/10/12.5/15% of their max health as magic damage. 10 second cooldown per target.

The problem is that the attack speed is soooooo unreliable in SoloQ and it makes focusing the support justifiable, because that would weaken kalista

and the damage it does is pretty insane, but again still unreliable in solo QQ

I Never ADC1 votes

And that's the reason why she was such a monster in competitive/High ELO. Keep in mind that there is no SoloqQ now :P

Even when solo, it gives an obvious indicator that it will deal more damage.

My reason for saying this could balance her, is that her early game would be weaker. Even if unreliable in solo, with a duo it does a ton. Lots more people play with 2-5 than just themselves nowadays.

Her passive is a problem ( not her w ), so I'm sure they could tweak it. If they do need to change it, they should keep the leap on her Q to Atleast keep it as part of her kit on one way or another.

Her passive does have a lot of drawbacks (less damage, can't auto-cancel, and they miss if the target goes out of sight. I believe if they made it so you couldn't change target mid-auto, and then buff other parts of her kit. Obviously that'd hurt her a ton, but with the attack speed so high it shouldn't matter as much late game.

Riot's balance has been turned around the idea "window of power", but kalista's passive negates entirely this idea because she is mobile permanently. The only way to to make her immobile is to fight her beyond 550 range which just forces hard counters and i heard that riot doesn't like hard counters.

MohawkBird1 votes

Even if you do have more than 550 range if you are dependent on skillshots for CC or even your damage you cannot even fight her either. The only few I can think of who can are maybe Caitlyn and Ashe. But even then CC is pretty much useless in these fights.

Her passive isn't the problem

It's her utility with the passive.

And if we didn't have the passive, why the fuck would I want to play Kalista over Ashe?

KONO RUBICK DA3 votes

cause ashe can't save her support without counterplay every 90 seconds

ashe also can't allow her morgana to jump into the enemy team and ulti 5 people.

ashe also can't bring a free better smite

Masala Chai3 votes

Ashe can situationally save everybody, give free vision of the jungle camps with 0 counterplay, can reliably disengage fights, poke in lane, and scale to late.

Abyssphere2 votes

So what you're saying is that Kalista and Ashe have different strengths. Nice.

Masala Chai1 votes

Ashe has greater strength's than Kalista's.

Hawkshot is global, can't be interrupted, has standardized champion vision and other things.

Sentinel is much less reliable than Hawkshot. It has a slow travel time, cannot travel through walls, gives situational vision, isn't global, and gives gold to whoever finds it.

Ashe also has a global engage/snipe tool which allows her to save allies, make a pick, disengag, reengage and deals damage, all on an 80 second cooldown which can be reduced by cooldown reduction, which NEWSFLASH, most Ashes build due to Essence Reaver,

Meanwhile, Kalista has a Zhonya's for her support; which is not global, can't be used unless her support is within two auto attack ranges, does no damage, and has a delay. oh yes, but it's an AoE knockup.

Ashe has better base stats, synergizes better with AD and AS items, better early laning, better late game, and better utility. The only thing that Kalista has going for her is that she can dash between every auto attack.

Ashe can kite bruisers almost as well as Kalista; Frost Shot gives her a lot of utility in terms of chasing and kiting. Though versus Assassins; Kalista can kite a little better than Ashe; of course Enchanted Crystal Arrow can hard cc Assassins fairly reliably. whereas Fate's Call has a delay.

Remove that passive, and why would I pick Kalista over Ashe? Sentinel does practically 0 damage now in lane.

Abyssphere1 votes

I mean, are we just assuming that Kalista's dash being removed would not lead to compensation, or what. Ashe has better stats, better X, better Y because Kalista's passive takes up a shitload of her power budget. If they got rid of Kalista's passive she'd obviously get compensation, with a necessary nod to her base stats because now that she could actually get hit by bruisers, she'd need some stats to be able to deal with that.

If Kalista lost her dash she'd get a new passive that might give her a new reason to be picked. Why would you ever assume that "Kali without her hops" is literally just the same champion we have now... without a zero cooldown dash?

SanKakU1 votes

I lost quite a few games with her lately and I realized 2 reasons why...

  1. The AD scaling on her abilities is mostly a newb trap. She is attack speed carry, and definitely not attack damage carry.

  2. She is nearly unplayable unless you turn off autoattack.

Once I built tons of attack speed on her and had autoattack turned off I was able to win with her again without much trouble.

I had taken a break from the game as a whole for quite a while so naturally I forgot how to play her because I didn't make a proper note of those 2 things.

Bushx1 votes

She literally loses 10% damage when she uses it!

That nerf was more than enough.

TyroneWatermelon1 votes

The purpose of kalista's passive is to teach scrubs how to kite easily...and it does that well

Cant predict? thought so..

My wishlist for Kalista changes in order from most desired to least desired:

  1. Fix her "Sion Syndrome," i.e. unite Kalista's abilities under one theme.
  2. Remove current passive and move W passive to innate passive.
  3. Replace W active with something more engaging, like buffing the oathsworn or giving a movespeed steroid.
  4. Allow her to scale with Critical Strike.

I already made the same comment in this thread, but I feel like it fits here, too.
