Pro tip: you can't.

Thresh isn't an instant free win. Yes he has lots in his kit, but he isn't the best support for every situation, nor is he that easy to use.
If you think Thresh is a problem, you need to check out
and
. Thresh can actually be fun to play against compared to those two.

Noone said anything about an instant free win. He's just the most reliable support in the game due to how safe he is, how tanky he is and how easy it is to peel with him. Not to mention he has one of the best pick tools in the game with that year lasting hook.
He isn't a free win, but he sure is overbearing as far as supports go. Being a threat isn't just about dashing around and blowing things up.

blitz cant really compare to thresh. Their only similarities are their hooks.

Blitzcrank is just as tanky, if not more so than Thresh, is faster than Thresh, and has pretty good peel on his Power Fist which is also on a shorter cooldown than Flay.
Blitzcrank's hook also brings a target fully toward him while also stunning them, all without him having to decide whether or not he wants to go in a potentially dangerous situation to get the enemy in range for his teammates.
In addition Blitzcrank can also get into position much more easily due to his Overdrive, along with being able to escape better than Thresh. His damage is also fairly good.
I personally find
an easier support to use than
. You've got a lot more tools available to help you do your job.
Blitz with his hook on cooldown is almost useless compared to a Thresh with his hook on cooldown.
And if you hook the wrong person they arent pulled into your face.
Oh I forgot to say that in that post. He is the new Blitz since Blitz W got gutted.
It wasnt gutted, it was just a stop from blitz being able to always have his speed boost which was overbearing. Also whhy dont you talk about thresh ultimate nerf then if you talk about nerfs?
Thresh is anything but reliable. He has a very low winrate because if his unreliability. Thresh has an overloaded kit, but a lot of it is situational. Thresh's stats make it so that if he doesn't get the most out of his kit, he'll be pretty useless as a support. Thresh is far from tanky. He has the stats of a ranged champion, nothing compared to the inherent tankiness of loena and braum.
Thresh is a lot, but reliable is probably the worst way to describe him. If you want a reliable support, you should look at Janna and Leona.
Reliable, tanky support champions that are easy to peel with who aren't thresh, and potentially a better pairing for your ADC of choice:

Thresh doesn't blow things up lol. If he is then you really need to assess what your bot lane is doing wrong for him to get that far ahead.

: lol nope

Lantern radius could do with a small nerf I think. It seems like you can grab it from outside the circle.
The lantern seems kind of glitchy to me. You're supposed to be able to stand on it to stop enemies from taking it but everytime I do it it never works.
http://euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/patch/patch-41-notes#patch-thresh
You haven't been supposed to be able to for over a year.
Read those patch notes!
I must have missed that :(
Looks like I've wasted a lot of time standing on Thresh's lantern for no reason.

5 of 10, but why wouldn't you expect to see something like that. in 10 games you would expect to see a good number of champions multiple times.
in my last 10 games i've seen 65 different champions, with repeats of thresh 5 kalista, yasuo 4 draven, alistar, ashe, riven, leona, jinx, rengar, annie 3 vi, MF, Jayce, cho, lux, jax, amumu, graves, naut 2
That's actually pretty good champion diversity.
Yes thresh has a 42% pick rate and a 50.02% win rate. that's pretty popular but reasonably balanced.
btw there is a 0.4% chance that the person you ask hasn't seen thresh in their past 10 games, and with 27 million players daily there are ~ 110,000 players who can honestly say they haven't.
You can say the same thing about lee sin, or vayne, or any champion with high pick rates and be right because that's how math works. In the last 10 games you will probably have seen ~half the lineup.
I like your format, so I'm gonna copy it.
In my last 10 ranked games, excluding 3v3's... I've seen 63 different champions with repeats of: Janna, Tristana - 4 (2 Champions) Ashe, Alistar, Lee Sin, Sivir, Vi - 3 (5 Champions) Leona, Maokai, Diana, Malzahar, Kalista, Ryze, Veigar, Vladimir, Ezreal, Yasuo, Zac, Pantheon, Gragas, Fiddlesticks, Shyvana, Vayne, Ahri, Master Yi, Morgana, Graves, Thresh - 2 (21 Champions)
I saw 35 champions only once
And so I can check my own numbers are correct... 10 games x 10 slots = 100 champion slots 2 x 4 = 8 5 x 3 = 15 21 x 2 = 42 8 + 15 + 42 + 35 = 100
I saw 63 of the 124 available champions, which is about 50.81% of the roster. This is consistent with your statement that I should have seen about half of the champions.
I haven't had a Thresh in my last 10 games. I actually haven't had him on a lot more than that.
What's your point? Thresh is the 2nd most popular champion atm, but with a 10 game sample you'll probably see every other champion with a pickrate above 10% and will very likely see the ones with a pickrate over 20%.
I can't because he's my favorite support so whenever we're not in need of something super tanky like Leona I grab him.
He is always there as is jinx.
Tell me one support that's as fun as thresh..

Support Mundo is far more fun than Thresh
I don't find Thresh to be very fun, in all honestly.
I'm more a fan of Lulu and Soraka. Lulu is the defining fun support in my opinion.
Nah, Nami man- take all the hate people have for Fizz and turn it into gratitude; that is the life of Support Nami.
I dunno man, I feel the same way about Lulu. Maybe she and Nami fit in the same boat... aquarium, I mean.
I guess I'd say it's due to their Q's and ultimates. A Lulu E is easy to miss for some reason I can't discern, as is Nami's E and W. And nobody initiates on the Lulu W -_- But their Q's are reasonably flashy and their ultimates are the godsends of support ultimates. Flashy as hell and incredibly badass.
Soraka... ugh, some people treat me like a walking health pot and never dodge skillshots -_- I think I'll go with Lulu and Nami as the super fun supports then.
The amount of people who force me to practice Q;s with Soraka because they cant dodge skill shots is unreal
You said it.
if there's 1 thresh in every 10 games that's a 5% pick rate
you're bad at this
There could be more? He never said it's only one.
You're bad at reading
my point is if there wasn't a single game with a thresh out of the last 10 games thresh would be less than 5% pick rate
you're bad at figuring things out

6 of my last 10 games have not had a thresh in them. Checkmate Atheists!
Why shouldn't he be in a lot of games? He looks great, plays great, is very effective - why not? I love Thresh and rarely, rarely ever play him. I've considered him since his release to be the most complete champion in League. Such an amazing cohesion between theme and gameplay.
Out of my last 10 games, Thresh has been in 7.
is very good all around, and is fun to play and even against.
What's nice is that even though he's good at a lot of different things, some champs will always be better in certain compositions.
Need a sustain support?
Need a tanky support?
Need some peel?
Need some engage or initiate?
Need to boost your ADC or Kog/Varus Mid?
Need a poke support?

Yes, Thresh is good in a lot of situations, but would you pick
over
if you need a dedicated healer? Over
if you want a supertank who can peel or initiate? Over
/
if you want awesome dialogue or lack-thereof? Over
/
if you want a Jugger-Maw/Protect-The-Carry comp? Over
/
for an initiator?
Thresh is good. But others are better.
I would take a Thresh over a Blitz any day. Damn robot has a "somebody doesn't get to play League today" combo.
At least Thresh signals that he's about to pull you into his ADC, rather than instantly warping his hand up your ass and nuking you down.
There are usually 10 different champions per game.
Counting overlaps, you're probably looking at 25% of the roster.
There's one thing I think that I always note whenever I go against a Thresh that allows me to justify the CC and range and tank he has: If Thresh gets ahead, he doesn't really -do- anything he wouldn't be able to do even if he was behind, besides die less due to being a bit more tanky. Thresh brings next to no damage besides auto harass and his Q and Wall, and neither of those scale well at all, with gold or levels.
If a Blitz gets ahead, the moment someone is pulled they're 100-0'd instantly. If Leona gets ahead, she becomes an insane initiation/pick champion that never dies while dealing incredible damage thanks to her passive.
If a Soraka or Sona get ahead, the sustain they bring is immense and Sona can put out some nasty damage for a support.
Thresh on the other hand still just throws out CC and tries to get picks no matter how much gold he has. He's one of the worst supports IF you snowball early, and one of the best if you get behind because he's so non-gold reliant, just team and slightly level reliant.
He's just reliable and safe, and I think that's fine.

I think you can say the same argument for

and
. They might not have as big of a pickrate as thresh but they are still very high. This is more of a problem with the support role only seeing utility mages and heavy cc tanks as what is considered "viable." I'm not saying that this is wrong, but it is more of a fact.

Thresh is different in that he has been in that spot for, well, since release.
Other champions rotate, you get to see different things, but thresh, thresh never goes anywhere, idiots will say this is a good design, but seeing the same champion being the most popular in higher levels of play(that means that you can't just improve your game and he will go away, the better you play the more of him you'll see) permanently get's very old very fast. He's favored by riot, they don't care that people have been sick of seeing him every game for more than a year.
Pretty much any support by design such as
etc will have a huge pick rate compared to other supports because of their design, utility, etc. Thresh might have the largest pickrate, but you can't ignore the 4 I just used as examples. Look at the last ten games and see if any of these champs were in your games and you will see similar results.
