If you can not devote 30 to 40 minutes for a game, do not play at all.

Just had a Fiora that urged us to rush it down mid that way we could end the game in order to conform to her needs so she could leave and do whatever she needed to do.

Except, we were not ahead enough, nor had enough pressure to do so, so, we ended up running head first into an enemy we could beat. We almost won, but the death timers were not long enough for us to finish it off.

And guess what? We lost. They got Baron, picked 3 of us of because our death timers were desynced, and pushed into our own base to end it. And then somehow I'm the one to blame for trying to get it through their heads that we could not win by just mindlessly pushing it down mid.

So....here is a PSA from your friendly neighborhood Electro...

If you have something to do within the next hour, DO NOT QUEUE UP. Plain and simple! Yes, I understand we are in a fast meta right now, but that does not guarantee that you may wind up in an hour or longer game. The average game length is still around 30 minutes, so, at the very least give yourself 45 minutes for an entire game. If you don't have that time, DO NOT QUEUE UP!

Sorry for the rant......wanted to get that out.

I understand how frustrating it can be, but sometimes things come up that were unplanned. We can't expect everyone to have a perfectly planned out life.

I'm not saying this shouldn't be punished, and you're definitely right about dedicating at least 45 minutes, but try to see it from their side.

stuff like going to see a girlfriend, getting together with the family, going out to eat is all stuff that's flexible. Saying stuff like "let's end I have class in 40 minutes" is the fault of that person who que'd up.

That and your parents keeping vital info from you like that you are going to be leaving to see a play in half an hour, and they do not remind you until you are already in champ select.

Oh boy, that happens to me ALL THE TIME. I'll be in a game and my mom walks up and is like, "We're going to go to grandma's in 15 minutes" and I'm like WELL HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW?

It's even worse with my dad, if we're going out to lunch, we're going out to lunch.

Right and you should be able to say to her "hey let's meet up in one hour"

Electro5227 votes

I did. I understand things spring up on you. What I'm talking about is queueing up for a game when you know you have to leave in the next hour or so.

Like others have said, if you knowingly queue up when you know you have to leave soon, it is YOUR fault.

Ghazter2 votes

And I'm not saying that's ok, my point is to make sure you're not unfairly targetting the ones that just had a last-minute, out of the blue thing. If you have class in 40 minutes, don't start a game, pretty obvious.

Out of curiosity, did the Fiora say what she had to go for?

Marshbouy3 votes

Even if fiora said that she had to go for something important, that does not mean they're trustworthy. Anyone can lie on the internet to try and avoid reports.

BakedLotion1 votes

reporting for leaving doesn't do anything because the system already knows you left.

There's literally no reason to lie

Verxint1 votes

This, the system doesn't bother to figure out "if you had a reason" or whatever. It just marks a leave.

You’ve played with a Fiora?

Electro5224 votes

No, they didn't. But they stuck in the game until it ended, so, I'm fairly sure it wasn't an emergency, or something too dire to where they had leave immediately.

I've always said it should be an hour, personally. 30 minutes is rarely enough time to do champ select and see the game through to the end.

I really miss the old days when league told us "35-45 minutes" :(

Naramiel3 votes

I'd say the selfish thing is expecting 9 other people to waste 30 minutes of their lives just because you wanted to spend 30 and weren't willing to spend 40.

Shablagoo2 votes

This is the most selfish and unreasonable thing I've heard in a while. I hope you understand that not everyone can one devote there whole life to leagues like you can because they have a life. Dont force your lifestyle on other ppl its just unreasonable.

Electro5229 votes

Then you misunderstood me.

If you willingly queue up for a game, knowing you have something to go do within the next half hour to an hour, it is your fault. Why queue up for a game if you do not have the time to do so?

If an emergency comes up, then yes, leave. Things pop up, I understand. But say you're going to the movies in the next 45 minutes......you shouldn't queue up for a game.

See what I'm getting at?

Shablagoo1 votes

Yes, so you cant leave your game unless there is a actual emergency. Again you dont seem to understand how unreasonable that is, understand any situation can happen in which you might need to leave your game. People have other commitments other then the game to go to they dont 100% devote their entire life to the game. I honestly do not understand why this game doesnt have a pause button like Dota 2 does, it is simply unreasonable to think things might not happen in day to day life that wouldnt require a pause.

Yxgl222HaX1 votes

online games have never been a thing that should be paused and never will. if any troll could pause the game when ever they felt like it this game would be unplayable. Its simple. if you know you don't have time to play then don't play. If youre afking or inting in my ranked matches just because you had to leave for work or school or something you have zero sympathy from me and 100% deserve the leave buster. The only accecptable reasons to afk are non - pre planned emergencys, being stuck with troll duos ( such as having several inters in your match where you cant ff because theyre premade). If you have things that you know ahead of time will cause you to leave prematurely and still decide to que up anyway then your ban is 100% justified. I always report afks unless they have a damn good reason for wasting the time of 9 other people.

Shablagoo1 votes

Yet Dota 2 has it and it is quite successful and works, and Dota 2 was one of the most successful steam games on steam? So you saying that dota 2 is unplayable yet is still extremely successful on steam? And you mean to till me that someone cant leave unless there family memeber is dying or they have a heart attack? That literally makes no sense you understand this is a game right?

Yxgl222HaX1 votes

no what dosnt make any sense is you apparently have zero ability to actually understand what people type. Having an actual emergency like someone dying is an actual legitimate reason to afk. Having something like school that you knew damn well ahead of time was a pre planned obligation at a specific time and choosing to start a match anyway, already knowing you would have to leave is NOT accecptable. There is a diffrence between sudden unavoidable emergencies and things you know are coming. If you cant tell the diffrence between things like school, and emergencies then i feel bad for you because the next 35 years are going to suck for you

Shablagoo1 votes

Funny how you completely ignore my first point cuz you know its right. I talking about a pause button here not starting a match before school? Why would anyone even do that, if they do it is poor time managament skills. But something randomly happening in the middle of the game making you have to go quickly or having to come back after a short amount of time makes sense. It also is funny how it seems like you believe people have a 100% time devotion to a video game. Unless they are in lcs they shouldnt have to devote there entire life to the game get over yourself.

Modl Ryden l2 votes

Personally I could never play a game knowing I'd have plans to get to within an hour or so. It stresses the shit out of me if I did and because of that, I don't know how people can play a game and end within just minutes of having to attend a meeting or go to work.

Frankly, without playing as a group of friends, this game stresses me out more than work does.

i remember reading a post like this shortly after I joined in the preseason of season 5, and the title was "If you cannot devote an hour to the game, do not play at all."

It's not a statement of the game, or a complaint, or anything. Just an observation.

9NINE1 votes

No. Why would I still play a game if my whole team lost their lanes? Why would I play if people can't even not die with 2 min. Do you get it? It's a waste of time. that's why ff15 was in place so that if things gone south that quickly, just fuck it and ff. It's not that hard and next time u just have to be better.

Divine Winds1 votes

He means if the game is even but you need to leave so you afk, knowing that a game can last a long time.

i can devote 30-40 min to a game but leaverbuster included

Yordle Xayah1 votes

You think that's bad? I had a Poppy earlier this morning who farmed everything but pushed nothing and participated in no fights. Literally was on a mission to grind a loss for us. An emergency that stops you from playing is one thing. But grinding a 50 min loss by AFK Farming is way worse.

FullmuteAll play1 votes

I would say up to 70 minutes. Playing so long contributing so much time/efforts and losing just because somebody needs to go not cool as well.

Dokueki Kenshin1 votes

I absolutely agree with the OP here, but I gotta ask... Does everyone feel that the games are shorter? I kinda feel like games for me still typically go to the 28-32 minute mark. Though I’m a little concerned still about jungler influence with the new scuttler changes, I’m actually liking this meta. For as frustrating as it can be sometimes, I see more champs that seem viable than I used to.

Snowman Arc1 votes

They are not necessarily shorter, but they definitely feel like it. They feel like the games are over by 15 minutes, because by then, 95% of the time you know who's gonna win. A big lead is already established and only a series of huge mistakes would throw the game away. I mean, after a point, you can sit afk, let your team 4v5 and still win, if you have a big lead.

Dokueki Kenshin1 votes

Ya know, I’m not gonna lie, my experience has been very much the opposite. It’s likely because I’m low ELO (Silver/Gold), but I feel like I’ve had more matches that I have or could have turned around for the win in this season than last.

breakordoom4441 votes

well considering most league games don't take 1 hour, lets break shit down here.

People often neglect the fact that games can last from 15 Minutes to 45 centuries, its impossible to calculate.

lets say i have one hour before something not flexable (funeral, reservation and such) Most people would play a game assuming that it wouldn't take an hour.

Its on Riot for giving a false sense that games are faster then you expect(and they often are) .

Lets say My house started burning in the middle of my game, its not my fault that the house is on fire, i just simply have to react to it and accordingly.
