Versus not, which creates the risk that your team will fail to capitalize on any man-advantages you possess as you lack the ability to effectively penetrate defenses? Or versus using a melee-ranged physical carry, which while carrying many of the same advantages versus structures lacks the relative safety that range affords? Why on earth would that be?

so if there isnt a clear and useful purpose for the marksman type champs...why would you ever pick them at all? they are a liability with their low defense etc, if a 5 tank team would work, then its all you would ever see, and there would be less diversity.

You don't need to have a melee ADC. You don't need an assassin. You don't need a mage. You don't need a fighter. You don't even really need a tank.
You absolutely, 100% need a ranged ADC (except Morde, who has changed that, and not really in a healthy way IMO). That's what bothers people. That there's this one role (not lane, you need a top laner, but a variety of champions can go top, or any other role except ADC, which requires, you guessed it, ranged AD carries) which is 100% mandatory.
Sire Hippington2 votesdid i miss something? not that i don't agree that it would be better for the game if marksman aren't 100% mandatory, but this worlds so far, we still have marksman 100% mandatory(outside of the very few matches in which the abomination called morde slipped through) While current diversety in worlds is nice, i don't think it has anything to do with +95% banrate morde entering the scene...

TurquoiseYoshi1 votesThe thing is, a lot of the diversity comes from pocket picks and counters. ADC Kennen was Rekkles' pocket pick, and that was (attempted) countered by ADC Jayce. Jinx became really popular, so Cait, a long-range, early game focused counter showed up.

Ralanr1 votesOh no I got that. Change one thing, every changes slightly because of it. The marksmen update may have a larger affect than the juggernaut update because of how mandatory marksmen seem to be.
That and it's not like people don't use the items marksmen use.

I am sure there are better ways to do things than making our lord of death master of metal look funny. He'd get nerfed into garbage tier after worlds end anyway, RiP Morde.
Other than Morde's existence directly forcing a meta change, I'd actually agree with OP's claim that ADCs shouldn't be mandatory.
