So when are Thresh nerfs coming to fruition?

Phife··6 votes·1,155 views
  • Hes got a stun / pull
  • a knock back / forward
  • a slow
  • another slow
  • a shield that can teleport allies
  • and a passive that gives him armor / ap that scales infinitely

Why does this guy have more damage / CC AAAND Utility than any other support in the game? Thresh is the true jack of all trades.... And you guys think lee sin is op?

He's balanced. wow he can do damage once every now and then with an auto attack. omg nerf

3 abilities that deal magic damage scale with ap, 3 abilities that CC, 2 that slow and 1 that stuns and 1 that knocks up enemies.

Balanced.

Oh yeah, and an extreme utility spell that can be targeted and used to leap away from any sort of danger.

What do you mean? all 4 scale with AP and one even scales with 100% AD too

his lantern does not deal magic damage, can u read? I said "3 abilities that deal magic damage scale with ap"

You can't ignore his lantern. His lantern is the #1 reason for picking him over other supports. Without the lantern, he's just a crappy blitzcrank skin.

I dont think you understand what im getting at.

Besides his 1 EXTREMELY OVERPOWERED UTILITY SPELL, The rest of his kit is still RIDICULOUSLY strong.

Ive listed it before, ill do it again.

  1. A ranged stun / pull.
  2. A knock back / slow
  3. An auto attack damage modifier that can scale up to 200% of total ad + souls / ap
  4. A Utility spell to save his allies that shields aoe.
  5. An ult to slow and do extreme damage at the same time to anyone who passes its walls.

  1. doesn't really pull very far, extremely easy to dodge
  2. extremely short range
  3. if you've made it far enough into the game to build enough AD for this to matter, chances are you were going to win anyway
  4. yes
  5. situational and easy to avoid

  1. Its not used to pull IMO but it tugs the enemy towards thresh so he can flay / ult, so really its a 1.5 stun into a .5 knock up into his slow and when he hits ult wall, hes taken over 700 damage from his abilities and has a 99% slow for 2 seconds that doesn't decay over time.

  2. His E is NOT short ranged... essentially it can cc a whole team if positioned right. (we're talking interupts/ knock ups, and slows)

3.It doesn't require you to build AD because it scales off your TOTAL ad (base damage) so late game its damage is 85(base ad @ 18)x2 + # of souls (at lvl 18 is usually around 100 -120 souls) = 290 damage with an auto attack. That damage is without building ANY ap / ad. Thats passive damage and it also has an active on it which deals more.

  1. If his ult is placed around priority targets its not easy to avoid, since you cannot flash over both walls in a single go. if you've been caught in thresh's hook hes gonna pull u into it or Flay you into it.

Thresh is an easy kill early on. And his abilities are useless if the teammates don't know how to play around them.

He's fairly balanced around this concept. Team work. Lots of supports are much more threatening and can carry the game if need be.

Balanced.

Thresh's ratios scale to a total of 1.9 AP. One of his CC abilities is single target, one is a VERY short knockback/pull with a slight slow afterwards, and the other is a massive slow that can easily be escaped and has a delay.

Leona has 4 abilities that do magic damage + scale with AP, 3 abilities that CC, 1 that slows OR stuns, 1 that roots, and 1 that stuns.

Obviously Leona is much better than Thresh; after all, she has an extra magic damage ability!

Phife2 votes

threshs Q can be used to leap away, or into a fight, while at the same time stunning a targeted enemy. His E can interrupt leaps / casts, and most of all be used for the ultimate peel, While his ult gives a MASSIVE slow and damage. to anyone who runs through the walls..

And his W shouldn't shield allies if its used to teleport people.

Leona E can be used to engage OR counter engage, while at the same time rooting a targeted enemy. Her Q can interupt leaps/casts, and has a higher CC duration than Thresh's. Her ult gives a much harder to dodge AoE slow AND stun and great damage at long range.

Otherwise, his W shields one ally. Total. They still have to pick up the lantern to be pulled, and as such would get the shield before they were pulled making that suggestion meh.

Phife2 votes

I dont think you get it, leona's E can ONLY engage.

Her Q is single targeted, melee stun

Her W does nothing other that give armor / mr

and her E roots the LAST person. (BRIEFLY) like, its so small of a duration they dont even have a number listed on how long it lasts. http://i.imgur.com/5yOeRBR.png

If he is so op stop complaining about him and start playing him. You'll see how "op" he is then.

Reduce HIs ult slow and take away the slow from his E and he'll be good.

I would like to see if anyone can prove me wrong on the matter, show me a champion who is like thresh and can do what he does.

Thresh isn't OP. He's actually struggling to win games both in solo queue and competitive.

Basically, everything that applies to Lee Sin also applies to Thresh. Both are excessively general for their role, meaning they have a tendency to suppress diversity when they're good.

Phife2 votes

As a support your main job is to be the master of all trades the annoying meatshield that doesnt allow their adc to be harmed... and in this case thresh excels through the roof.

Yeah in all cases supports arent meat shields but thats because of the meta shift of the support role. But when you compare true supports to each other Thresh trumps all.

SmokingPuffin1 votes

But when you compare true supports to each other Thresh trumps all.

Among "true supports", currently Janna is on top. She has a very favorable matchup against Thresh.

Among all supports, Blitzcrank is an absolutely awful matchup for Thresh. He also suffers significantly against Morgana.

Thresh is only struggling in low elo. Thresh has almost 50% win rate with exhaust and almost 52% win rate with ignite for plat+. His win rate for bronze and silver is like 46%. I wouldn't call a 52% win rate "struggling". While yes, there are other supports winning more of their games, it still doesn't change the fact Thresh was just given too much for a single champion.

I honestly think Blitz is worse though, since he's actually currently winning against almost every adc+support.

I don't know where you're getting your stats from.

http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/thresh/diamond

This shows a significant downward trend for Thresh in diamond in the past year. I don't think there is any case for calling him OP today.

I said he has a lot shoved into one kit, not that I agree he's OP.

In this case, you have managed to agree with me while sounding like you disagree.

Thresh has a swiss army knife kit. It tends to suppress diversity when he's in the meta, because there isn't really a niche that he's particularly good at, or a skill he particularly lacks. This isn't a balance problem. It's a game health problem.

Like I said, in terms of supports, Blitz is obviously doing much better than Thresh is currently

Yup. Blitz really likes a hard engage meta. Poke currently takes ages to wear him down.

YES! Totally bro. With that long windup that makes it hard to land in laning phase unless you walk into it (though can lead to outplays: Madlife), who is also susceptible to poke practically the whole laning phase is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP.

Haha, susceptible to being poked?? LMfaoo... we're talking about the same champ that can shield 3 people at once, flay someone into melee range then stun them into a 2 second long 99% slow???

Your info is outdated. The only way Thresh can shield 3 people at once is with Locket of the Iron Solari's active. His Dark Passage shields himself and one ally max. This was nerfed last summer. The Box was nerfed at the same time, making it so only 1 enemy takes damage max.

{quoted}

  1. An ult to slow and do extreme damage at the same time to anyone who passes its walls.

Just the first person. Everyone else who touches a wall gets slowed for half duration (1 second). You know why this is not unfair? The Box surrounds Thresh. To trap people within it requires that he dives into melee range. He can drop it while fleeing to disengage, but people are likely to go around it.

You're not gonna admit that even for how ridiculous it is its not strong?

Ice Weasel X1 votes

No, because you're assuming I think it's ridiculous. It isn't. When used offensively, it's a high risk ability. The slow only affects movement. Attacks and skills can still be crammed down his gullet, and dashes still function. It's not a stun.

LOL, my phone auto corrected to that. I meant to say "If anything I think thresh is the support bar." Seriously how would that insult even make sense in that sentence?

I like how you replied with an empty headed comment though, gg.

I just don't think you deserve more than an answer of what content I gave. Your obviously salty and upset about getting outplayed by a thresh. I gave you the slight benefit of the doubt and gave you a reply, stating my opinion that Leona is 100% on par, if not better, then Thresh. I see that you weren't trying to actually have a conversation (based on this comment and the many before it) and were just trying to rant and rage.

My bad. gg

Want a reply?

Leona is not better than thresh, shes much worse.

Her E root is so insignificant that they have it worded as "briefly" in the spell. No numbers not even .5 so you think she has alot of cc?

She has 1 Melee stun, SINGLE TARGET. and an aoe slow that IF you hit in the cener stuns all who are in it. Guess what, unit collision makes it impossible for her to hit more than 3 people in her Ult stun because of how wide it is.

On the other hand thresh can flay a whole team stun 1 person AT RANGE and then ult to get people slowed for 99% for TWO WHOLE SECONDS. Oh did i mention his W shields aoe and can send an ally flying across baron pit?

Leona's ultimate is ranged and does aoe damage to everyone inside. This does more damage then Thresh's ult which is single target damage. Leona has a longer and AUTO stun, her stun is NOT a skill shot. Her E allows her to dive PAST the tanks to any squishy hit, whereas thresh can only jump to a target IF he hits his much longer delayed skill shot Q.

Thresh has a higher skill ceiling then Leona, yes. But all of his kit is avoidable, you just stay away from him and dodge his slow hook. Leona is tankier so has an easier time just strictly running at someone if she misses her e or getting close enough to use it on a higher priority target.

Leona also does SIGNIFICANTLY more damage, with a teammate. Thresh has some burst with his q, flay, ult and auto combo. But that's it. His sustained damage is terrible.

Leona can ult and stun 2 people WHILE slowing an entire team with JUST her ult AT RANGE! And then E and stun 1 person while doing AOE damage to everyone around her, increasing her armor and magic resist Oh and did I mention all of her abilities make her allies do MORE damage on their next attack. Lol using optimal situations to make something seem op is pretty dumb right?

Also, you do know 99% slows are really only about 60-70% due to a hard cap on how slow something can be.... so yeah there's that.

Last thing, her e snares long enough to make her get at least 1 auto off after she gets next to them. Which makes her land her stun. SO it's not insignificant at all.

As I already said earlier, your info is outdated. Thresh's ult can only damage and slow 1 person for 2 seconds. Everyone else takes a 1 second slow and no damage. His W can only shield himself and 1 other ally. These nerfs happened last July.

Thresh is a great jack-of-all-trades support. Any one thing he does, another supp does better.

Leona's CC is harder.

Blitz's pull is better.

An assassin/mage support's damage is better.

Braum's beefier.

He doesn't have sustain, like Sona or Taric.

I will agree that his lantern is pretty unique, but it's not going to save the adc every time; if he's far enough to pull his adc out, he hasn't been close enough to actually help in the fight the adc needs to be pulled out of. He can't engage a fight, and magically fly out; for that, see Kalista.

What IS good about Thresh is his ability to meaningfully contribute to nearly any situation. The CC of his kit's decent for singling someone out, or hampering everyone in a fight. His engage is good in a pinch, as long as he can hook/lantern someone to engage with him. His damage, especially with the passive on maxing flay, is mixed AP/AD, so it's always able to chunk some hp down in a fight. He's decently bulky, especially late with his passive, but he's no Sion.

Every support better than Thresh at something, and if your team needs that one thing more than anything else, that specialist is better. This is why he's rarely god or trash tier; regardless of whatever aspect the meta makes powerful, or makes weak, Thresh has some of each. Blitz, Braum, Leona or Sona might get nerfed or buffed, or shuffle around the tier list, but IMO Thresh is always just pretty good.

Personally I think he's one of the better designed champs, his kit has such neat synergy and versatility, without feeling gimmicky.

Ill keep this thread for then.

If you want my thoughts on annie :

"Annie was really dependent on DFG so we are compensating her for the loss of a core item".

Patch notes:

Annie - Summon Tibberzzzzz - There is no a short 2.5 sec delay until Tibberz appears. The animation roots annie and begins with her taking tibberz in 2 hands, hugging him, then throwing the little teddy bear at the area. Once Tibberzzzz hits the ground he grows rapidly in an explosion.
