How crucial is AA canceling between Qs on Riven?

Just wondering from some successful Riven mains (or regular players) as to how important canceling her Auto Attacking between her Q's really is. I can do a lot of ability animation cancels like E-R, and Tiamat cancels etc. But i've never been consistent with AA canceling.

One of my "pet peeves" in league is being able to play a champions kit to their fullest potential. I don't mean challenger pro good. But being able to utilize their kit in a situation it can be used. For example, when i played a lot of Lee Sin, i made sure i was comfortable "InSecing" when i needed to. And for Rengar, landing mid air E's and using q w and tiamat before hitting the ground, before i was comfortable playing these champions in ranked.

I think i could enjoy Riven, I just don't know how hard i'd be held back lacking this mechanic of hers.

And yeah, Ill be expecting down-votes as a lot of people hate Riven.

From my understanding (I don't play her) if you want to be good, it's not, if you want to be great, then it is.

I havn't watched BoxBox in awhile, but when i did, i don't recall him utilizing it all the time. Which kind of answers my own question i guess.. Idk, maybe i'm just too anal lol.

I suppose it's necessary when trading, but Riven combos can be quite complex depending on the situation so he must have his reasons.

I think he made a video explaining how to do it and shit.. Basically only mili-seconds difference.. but we all know how much of a difference that can make in a game of league lol.

I hope someone plat+ who mains riven can shed some light about it.

WELL its a little more complex than that being a Riven main for a while now i haven't been playing her as much recently, but shes still my favorite champ, you can get away with simply canceling your auto early just by qing, but if you want to be a GREAT Riven then you would need to learn how to cancel it even earlier by putting a movement command in between with your q and autos. Its not easy at all, PLat 5 here and climbing haven't played ranked in like a week but i still cant get down using the movement command without F***ing up my whole combo. And BoxBox and others like Dekar do use it ALL the time its pretty hard to notice since its just so quick but you gotta look at when they start hitting a jngl camp then its easier to notice.

Yeah the move command always fucks me up. I see boxbox use it on jungle mobs more than champions, and I havnt watched Dekar since he dropped rengar :(

It's not entirely necessary unless you really need the damage off fast. You can spread out the QAAQWAAQ over a very short period of time or over a few second span depending on the situation.

Basically the lower elo the less necessary it is. She's probably close to unplayable in challenger if you can't competently animation cancel though.

in low elo you can get away with not cancelling but it is a very noticeable difference once you know how to do the technique

Using AA inbetween qs is definetly crucial, BoxBox does that basically every q combo. He does it so fast that you can't tell sometimes, but yes he does it. Not weaving AA between Q will reduce your damage output by like 40% in lane, so use it. It isn't hard, q, auto, click away, q auto, click away, q. If you have ever played vayne, or kog maw, and you learned how to kite well, those skills can translate to riven in her combos.

Yeah the clicking away thing is where i mess up. I can cancel her AA animation by pressing Q but i cant recancel her Q animation with the move command.

If you can't animation cancel then Riven is just not worth playing

if u dont aa cancel u miss out on a lot of damage

It's the main difference between a gold Riven and a challenger Riven.
