If a champ is played at the competitive level

They should never be considered a candidate for a straight up numbers buff.

I'm referring to pyke.

Not necessarily. A lot of champions are strong in pro play because they have things that are heavily abused in pro play. Most notable, globals. Ryze is strong in pro play, because of his ultimate pressure, but he's underperforming in soloQ, because casuals can't get big advantages out of it.

Then you shift power within the kit, not just buff them.

Try again.

They nerfed every part of his kit except his ultimate (besides latest nerfs). Somehow Ryze is still picked in pro play. I wonder why.

They nerf their ability that makes strong in pro play, and compensate with number buffs in the rest of the kit, making them stronger in soloQ overall. Look at Taliyah.

So what you're saying is Ryze needs buffs? RIP pro play.

He needs buffs to become viable in soloQ. If that means he becomes strong in pro play, then nerf his R to compensate.

Pyke can be banned in proplay, the issue for Riot as a company is that his winrate is low and they want him to gain an established playerbase rather than being written off.

Pyke is similar to Thresh in that his kit allows for a LOT of creativity. You should see what a pro-player like Bunnyfufuu does with Thresh. I've seen him hook gromp over a wall, flash the next wall, with an ally and then engage. If you balanced around the 5-10 top players, he'd have a 30% winrate in low elo. Pyke's in the same boat- though I'd argue he's not AS versatile as Thresh, but he may simply have to remain a worthwhile ban in order to be viable in the general game.

And honestly there are a lot of champions that see a huge rise in skill in the hands of the top pro-players, and they can do so whilst seeing very little succesful play by the playerbase.

Pyke is decently strong in solo queue though.

Im getting pretty decent as pyke with a non standard build of Glacial Agumentation and item 3144 item 3153 . Some games are awfull on him, some teammates don't know how to play with him. Still has influence on a game. Can tilt mids at the very least with some good roam.

46.5% winrate- it needs to grow (either by understanding him better or buffs), I'd say understanding him is what's needed. But it's my feeling he'll always see pro-play in the right scenarios and might look insanely busted in the right hands.

Cool now lets follow that up with if a champion is only broken in bronze and silver we do not give them a numbers nerf.
