why is swapping out secondary runes so fucking counterintuitive
I click on what I want to swap out and it swaps out the other one instead. I try it the other way and it still swaps out the undesired rune.

You cant blame a small indie company like riot for having a little spaghetti code!
"small" also, its not spaghetti code, its just QOL that RIOT doesn't care about.
That was the point of his post. He was being sarcastic.
It's the world's dumbest system, but whichever one's in the top slot is always the one that will be swapped out. It's one of those little quality of life things Riot ignores.
Relax bro, they're just a small indie company. They just need some more funds or something like a patreon. Let's support our indie devs!
This screwed me last night on ARAM.
Alacrity Brand ftw.

Celerity?
(Alacrity would be much better of a name)
Alacrity is down the precision tree.
######oh
Yeah, I wanted Presence of Mind, but I got Legend: Alacrity because of the interaction that the OP refers to.
It truly drives me mad. I can't really think of a reason why it's so counterintuitive.
I heard like 3 times from Riot that they are working on it. Where is the fix?
Easy work around, change your secondary tree to a different one and then switch it back, then you can pick both without having to swap them out.
there are more important priorities to work on dude wtf finally we have what everybody asked for about the emotes showing on top left of the screen, and u complain about swapping runes?!?!!
I recall them saying they thought this was better so they designed the client and system like this and to change it would be a looooot of work because the backend isnt that simple.
Annoys the fuck outta me too.

If this is true, this is a whole new level of incompetence, especially for Riot who has virtually unlimited money to hire the best of the best programmers, who did they hire? Some wannabe beginner programmer straight out of high school?
They don't have virtually unlimited money. They aren't Bill Gates or one of those Saudi oil tycoons that casually buys several islands at a time, they're a company. People have to be paid, servers have to be upkept, money has to go to R&D for new champion and skin designs. Hell, they might even offer scholarships or donate some of their funds to charity.
The point is, they have a lot of money coming in, yes, but not all of it is available to, say, pull a programmer away from EA, Bethesda, 2K, and some of the other gaming companies out there. Not when those companies might have more money.
It should definitely be fixed though. It's annoying beyond all belief.
That doesnt make much logical sense. Once something is set up to work a certain way, making it work differently isnt exactly as easy as swapping a couple lines of code out.
That sound like something they only said because they never managed to make it work and it has always been bugged.
That is so irritating.. I sometimes end up rushing my choices because of that "mechanic"
As well as why the hell do we need to hit that damn "SAVE" that makes the client freeze for 1s sometimes and then.. eventually even fail to save the changes?
If I went in.. to change the runes, why in the world would I have to hit "SAVE" C`mon.. why it does not auto-save? Can't we have some rune pages set to toggle AUTO-SAVE/MANUAL if we really want to keep some pre-sets intact
I posted about this over 7 months ago. I'm baffled it's still working like that. Really wonder how many posts it will take for it to be fixed. Get my upvote in the meantime.
Removing runes from the game completely would be a lot better. Nobody wants this hassle pre-game. Illusion of freedom of choice. Adjust champion stats appropriately to account for removing the runes, and if you have to, add in items that mimic the effects of some of them. But just remove this trash please.
Put it in grid. The behaviour for which rune is changed has been thought with the grid view in mind.
I blame Mordekaiser. If they fix runes his ult will crash the game.
How else will they sell more RUNE PAGE$
What's stupid is that we only get like 8 rune pages. When masteries were a thing we had like 20 pages. Now we have less than half that amount.
Speak for yourself I have 16 Rune Pages.
I have 21. But I bought all of them pre update. Now I only use 5 and switch them before every game.
I noticed that too, it behaves like a queue, always moving out the one I replace and then moving the new one into the bottom, even if I was replacing the top one. Ends up making the one that was on the bottom sit in the position of the top one, making me think I've accidentally switched out the bottom one instead.
It's really confusing and frustrating.
Spaghetti code would be my guess.
What actually bothers me is that I made a post about it when the system hit live. I was told, by a rioter of relevant department, that the system would be changed to work more properly. So I guess she lied to me, or they just never got around to fixing something so widely complained about.
i dont know man
I ended up with Legend: Alacrity instead of Triumph the other day and nearly punched a wall.
if you click rune 1 and place it then click rune 2 and place it on an empty page you'll get them in the slots 1 and 2 respectively. try to change rune 1 and you'll change rune 1. try to change rune 2 and you'll change rune 1. try to change rune 1 then rune 2 you'll change runes correctly unless runes were inserted backwards. in which case you'll have to remove rune 2 then 1.
it's the equivalent of trying to parallel park on the interstate during rush hour.
dont forget to carry the 2 and divide by 4 :)
It's likely a technical thing, I'd guess that they change runes out of their data object via an iterator, which would result in FIFO (first in first out) behavior without a fair amount of overhead, rather than having an empty data field, or having to track which filled field you need to ignore, for which ever of the 3 categories of secondary runes you don't pick.
THIS, fix THIS.
Its always going to swap out the last one you clicked.
its dumb but if you want to make sure you get the right 2 that you want just click them both 2 times. Click 1, then the other, then the 1st one again and then the 2nd one again.....you will always get the right 2.
Shouldnt be this way but it is.
