Trinity+Ghostblade Garen buffs

This build is already really strong, Trinity first item has a 58.4% winrate on Garen, Ghostblade second item has a 61.9% winrate. Ignite has a 52.4% winrate, which is what all these Trinity Garens use.

The Garen buffs mean that his E applies on hit effects, his Q is an empowered basic attack so that certainly will too. So he'll get multiple Trinity sheen procs, and a Serrated dirk proc before Youmuu's is completed, as well as grasp procs

E scales on attack speed, AD and on hit effects=Trinity. Perhaps we'll see Spear of Shojin 3rd item as I think the CD reduction is an on hit effect, so he ults and then just constantly spins? Could he be able to stack spin damage like he could in urf? Lol

I see Garen top being focused into a fighter role rather than a bruiser role. I think this iteration of Garen will be a really strong splitpusher as multiple champs will need to deal with him as he'll always have the ignite R true damage to kill his target

You ignore the part where his W was severely nerfed. As it stands this is a decent nerf. As it stands, the damage on garen wasn’t the problem, the problem was the amount of defenses he got for free. The 50 armor and mr that he got as well as his massive damage reduction on W made him start to be a midlaner. Yes, garen is now a midlaner. In fact, he’s not as good at toplane as he is at midlane.

The ghostblade triforce meme aside, there’s a challenger garen player who rushes things like deadman’s plate. He gets his serious offensive items way later and it works excellently. Garen is and will continue to be great at soaking damage. At least now he will actually have to itemize more for defense and if he does try to optimize his damage he will be left with a much weaker defensive aspect.

It’s worth noting he applies onhits at half damage and it only applies to the nearest target. His spin does not apply his Q. His spin applies triforce (though currently on PBE it only does half damage). The spin does not proc press the attack more than once, same going for phase rush. Not to mention as it stands, each onhit of his spin is taking full damage from bramble vest/thornmail, giving a solid counter to him (his spin count is dynamic, so the attack speed slows would actually also reduce his spin count). Hence, there is no real need to worry.

If you go desktop site and items you'll see Trinity and Youmuu's are his highest winrate items

Ok, time to teach two lessons in statistics.

  1. those are individual item statistics, triforce being his highest winrate first item and youmuu’s being his highest winrate second item doesn’t mean that those two combined are his best item combo.

  2. there is a tad bit of correlation vs causation mixup here. Those items are particularly good when he is already winning, and help cement that said lead. This is a case of mistaken causality. Just because those have the highest winrate aren’t because those are the reason for the highest winrate, it just so happens that he buys or can buy those items while he’s winning. In other words, a high winrate with those items may be indicative that they are strong on him, but it may also be indicative that they are bought on him when he’s winning. Do note that some items are only bought by people who really know their champ well and in very specific situations, so those items tend to have a winrate decoupled from the winrate of the masses, unlike items that are very widely bought on the champion.

Riste is a good reference for item builds that are strong on Garen. He does build trinity every now and then, but by no means does he go youmuu’s trinity.

I get that, but it shows the average completion times of the items. 16min for trinity is well within reason and I don't believe the winrate of Youmuu's would be offset by so much if it was bought a minute or two later than average

Copying challenger setups doesn't inherently mean they'll be good in lower elos where favourable fights are easier to find

To an extent, I agree, there are differences between challenger and low elo, but at the same time the intention and function behind the items he buys still stands. He itemizes some damage and lots of tankiness.

His builds abuse garen’s innate tankiness and high damage, then get more damage to supplement later on.

Anyway, needless to say, the combination of triforce and youmuu’s, while very high damage, lacks tankiness and slows the rest of his build. While you’re likely right in that we will see more triforce on him, it won’t be, as you say, a huge buff to that build path. The difference won’t be significant. The real differences are observable when he builds even more attack speed and on hit beyond that. Otherwise he just sort of breaks even.

The real issue is by the time he has triforce and youmuu’s, the enemy dpses and mage will be having major power spikes in their exponential damage scaling, so unless you surprise them, your lack of tankiness will lead to you dying too fast to apply said triforce and youmuu’s damage.

And while people are on the lethal tempo train, he will still be getting grasp into tough lanes, especially because his spin now procs it.
