@Rito Instead of attempting to fix CS calculation, why don't you just show us gold?
I see no drawbacks.
I see no drawbacks.
Riot thinks that if we saw that the enemy team is up by 3k gold, we would open mid or something and games would be less fun.
They don't want people to know exactly how far ahead/behind they are.
Yeah, they said that. But they gave no convincing reason why. That's a bit underwhelming.
See AWDAF's comment for the convincing reason why, because he's spot on.
Well, I am not convinced... And even AWDAF doesn't sound really convinced either. He said "Riot thinks that we... or something.", not that's what people would actually do.
What I think is at least as likely than people giving up is people realizing how far ahead an opponent really is, respecting them more, playing safer, and actually coming back more often from a bad early game.
You say there are no drawbacks.. but there are no advantages either. There is no reason to change it.
And what's the issue with looking at numbers and knowing that this guy has 200 CS and thus more gold than somebody with 150 CS? You can tell how much gold he has by looking at his items.
CS number is basically meaningless for junglers, where 1 CS from Brableback is worth 10 tiny krugs, and supports who gain gold in other ways.
Showing meaningful number instead of meaningless is always a profit, if not for core playerbase then for new players - those guys can't reliably judge power from items yet.
Because determining whether or not you will win an engagement may be the most important and difficult strategic skill in League. Displaying clear gold values basically throws that out the window because gold leads give such a clear indication of who has more power. The game would be much more boring and predictable for the players when they don't need to consider cs, kills, items completed, levels, and how they all interact with each other and instead just look at gold acquired to know they will probably win/lose a fight with that champion.
Level and items always give you more valuable information than gold lead. Game wouldn't get any more predictable.
Even in pro games, spectators will occasionally see teams take a teamfight that looks really bad. They can only justify it later by saying "we didn't realize how far behind we were," which sounds weird to a spectator who can look at the gold lead. In solo queue where players don't communicate as much they lose track of how their other lanes are doing much more easily than pros, so a gold total display for the players would definitely change the game.
