FFS people aren't "entitled" just because they want free runes.
Runes are powerful. They give you an advantage over an opponent if you have them and the opponent does not. It takes hundreds of hours to grind enough IP to buy all the runes you need for just a handful of runepages. Not everyone can/will put the hundreds of hours in to grind them.
Does this mean they should be at a disadvantage in their games? No. A game that claims to be competitive should be about inherent skill, not about how much time or money you put in. (you can spend RP on IP boosts to get more runes faster) Does this mean you are an entitled baby for wanting free runes? No. Wanting a game to hold it's promise of being competitive does not make you entitled. Wanting even footing in a competitive environment does not make you entitled. Does this mean you look like an asshole when you rant about the "millennials" and "entitled generation" ruining everything? Yes.
Riot also has a plan for those who have previously bought tens of thousands of IPs in runes. It's not all getting wasted. Calm your tits.
EDIT: Lemme expand a bit on my argument. So there are two versions of every champion, one that costs their normal amount of IP and one that costs 100x their normal IP. The one that costs 100x the normal IP is objectively better in every way. Damage, cooldowns, CC length, and base stats. Both are available to anyone playing the game, but the amount of effort needed to buy them differs. If you buy a champion version that is more powerful then it's cheaper counterpart, you will win more often because you put in X amount of hours to buy it. Is this fair? Is this balanced? Does this fit a competitive game? Should someone have a higher chance of beating someone else just because they put in more time, regardless of player skill? No. this is not an MMO. This is not a game about grinding out in game currency to get an edge on your opponent. If you want to climb, you should have to have more skill than your opponent, not more in game currency or time played.
