Want to Point out the Lack of Mage Junglers

BrightWîngs··9 votes·7,841 views

Not simply AP champs like actual mages the only one that is played and was completely on accident is Taliyah every other AP jungler is either an assassin or a tank with AP scaling I'm pointing this out because i always find myeslf in a situation where my team needs AP but also dont need an assassin so when I mean mages i mean champions like Vladimir Viktor Brand I'm they need to be exactly like these champs just trying to give a better understanding in what I mean.

please no... like seriously

don't touch this monkey's paw.

you don't want this

Sincerely... the person who requested in season 4 that Nidalee should jungle because her lore was entirely based around the jungle. (YES.. IT'S ALL MY FAULT!!! [sg-soraka] )

And you don't need to take my word for it... go ask the Taliyah players what they think of it of what riot did to their champ.

or better you ask Morgana players how much better they like the new passive that "helps them in the jungle" and removal 99.9% of lane sustain they had)

just.. leave well enough alone. don't open pandora's box

Why is it wrong to want mages in the jungle?

Mages used to be able to clear the jungle decently until riot constantly reworked the jungle so now most mages are shit at jungling

This^^ Season 6-7 I could take so many mages into jungle, since end of 7 and for sure all of 8 mages just get shat on. You can just pick an AD burst jungler and just invade all day and they will forever be behind and can't do anything about it.

EDIT>> while I would love SOME changes, in no way do I want to see Brand in jungle, already see enough of him.

Easy solution to this is giving them jungle centered buffs so their lanining isn't affected I'll give some examples

Malzahar - Malefic visions deal bonus damage to monsters

Vladimir - Transfusion Saps more Health from Jungle monsters

Viktor - Siphon Power has halved cooldown if used on jungle monsters

Cassiopeia - Twin Fangs heal Cass for X% when used on Jungle monsters

These are just examples but you get the idea

Cavesloth1 votes

Yep, not hard. Unless you are riot and WANT to make everything needlessly complicated and hard to balance.

Vladimir - Transfusion Saps more Health from Jungle monsters

It already does (3Q heals the same vs monsters as champions). So instead: Tides of Blood deals bonus damage to monsters and pierces small monsters.

Cassiopeia - Twin Fangs heal Cass for X% when used on Jungle monsters

Sort of already does that with any of her poisons applied. I think she already clears fast and healthy. Mana is her main issue (which can't be fixed here since it's high on purpose for laning reasons).

Can't think of a better solution that isn't "deals bonus damage to monsters".

Solution for Cassiopeia, instead of restoring Health on Twin Fangs she restores Mana, BUT only againts Jungle Monsters

Morgana and Zyra were both buffed with the intention of them jungling. Just because no one does it doesn't mean they still cant.

You pick Morg jungle you get invaded cant contest lose game gg wp.

Morgs not winning any 1v1 duels in the jungle. Those were shitty/half assed changes

morg hasn't had a buff since 2017.. she has had NOTHING bug nerfs

yes but the issue is that the arnt MEANT for the jungle the current jungle meta is Graves Khazix Jax which if the people playing those champs arent doo doo they will know they can easily invade those kinda of champs Morgana can get out of being invaded pretty easily but its sort of the Ivern situation where you are forced to bend over if no one on your team helps

Brand can Jungle though, he actually clears very well.

yes true but the reason it doesnt work right now 1 because hes really bad at taking scuddle crab 2 the current meta junglers are Graves Khazix XinZhao who all can invade him fairly easily I actually played Kayle and that isnt THAT bad either.

Tank, fighter, assassin. No mage in your list.

There are few mages (other than Tallyah) that can jungle: Brand (passive works on monsters), Fiddlesticks (old school jungler), Zyra , Karma (she can heal with W from monsters), AurelionSol (he used to be popular in jungle). Also Malzahar used to work but I think they nerfed him as he was too strong there and Kayle was a normal pick (though not sure if I would classify her as a mage, she is more a marksman). Either way, even that these champions has a kit or abilities against monsters, they still can't match the clear speed or clear health of meta junglers and they cannot contest scuttle crab against them. Fiddle especially is trash ever since scuttle crab was introduced and Kayle basically too. Also even though champions like Brand have a good clear and fast way to kill scuttle crab, they are extremely easy to invade and counterjungle - they lack mobility to escape invade and they must use all abilities on monsters to clear and while their abilities are on cd they are unable to fight back.

Fiddles been trash for much longer then scuttle release. He got forced out of jungle when they first removed small monsters from Red/Blue buff and increased the amount of small raptors+ buffed their HP back in I believe preseason 6. Essentially fiddle used to be able to clear well but now he has can't do anything but Drain for 3 camps and takes forever to clear raptors because he needs 2 E's to kill the little ones instead of 1 + an auto on each

You kite the gromp and blue buff together to bounce your crow between them while draining blue buff. Fiddlesticks does need some jungling buffs though the raptors are the most annoying as that is quick and easy gold for most junglers.

Mags are meant to be very frail and deal a lot of burst damage. They would have to get better armor or increased health or something or even just extra damage ton jungle monsters in order for them to work consistently well in the jungle, and those would just come off as unnessicary buffs for people who would still play them in other lanes.

I'm under the impression that it's why they didn't go through with a buff to Morganna to make her a jungler. It was a post they wrote months and months ago on what I think was a Ask Riot post, so I'm really not sure where to find it anymore.

I don't think anyone mentioned this yet but mages are very expensive which is why tanks, assassins, and fighters usually jungle because they either don't need much gold or can snowball from kills very quickly and mages are neither of those things.

Marksmen are expensive too yet Graves, Twitch and Kindred are a thing

JeaneGreene1 votes

Graves and Kindred both have extremely safe and fast clears while also having a large early game presence, especially when counter jungling. I’m not too sure about twitch, but Kindred easily gets the gold she needs for her items.

very true but I dont exactly mean that the mages we have now need to be able to join the jungle just for them to make an actual mage be able to effectively farm the jungle and have a reasonable way to gank

Jax isn't picked as a jungler. Last time he was good he built Cinderhulk.

Udyr also goes Cinderhulk or Warrior.

Warwick goes Cinderhulk.

Nocturn goes Warrior.

Only Yi and Kindred build Bloodrazor.

So, just Yi goes Bloodrazor?

Z3Sleeper2 votes

That's an issue with Bloodrazor and not attack speed junglers. Attack speed junglers are being played, they just aren't taking Bloodrazor cuz it's tailored specifically to on-hit users or ranged champs that can apply it "safely".

Ofc a melee DPS that doesn't gain 10 billion frames of invulnerability like Yi does isn't gonna build this squishy ass item.

And since noone else like that exists, it's a Yi specific item.

Lissandra has the aoe and low cds to jungle and the control to gank (and can take aftershock for some extra survivability while doing it). Her ability to catch out someone in the late game is questionable though, outside of r.

Zyra Her passive seeds make her a decent at clearing jungle too.

Amumu can build ap items and do reasonably well. He can play like an ap fighter or a burst mage if you have ulti up, depending on the build.

That's all I got. Old Sejuani used to be my pick for magic damage in the jungle, as well as my favorite pick. Her reworked fucked that up for me.

Azir - Shifting Sands shield now triggers on large and epic monsters as well.

Brand - Blaze damage is no longer capped against monsters.

Swain - Swain can now pull and receive a soul fragment from immobilized large and epic monsters as well.

He only heals for 4 - 5.5% in the early game and Soul Fragments are already pretty easy to get your hands on.

yeah the healing is fine tbh but getting the soul idk the amount of souls he has depends on how much his ult will do yes they arent incredibly hard to get but at this point there would never be a time where he doesnt have max souls i think maybe he gets the heal but not the soul

It will just make it incredibly hard for Jungle Swain to obtain any Soul Fragments then, seeing as he won't have a reliable lane opponent to get them from.
