Rioters PLEASE READ: If someone rage quits a game, they need to be instantly punished.

We have LeaverBuster. How about RageQuitBuster?

I'm not **as **upset if you have to go, or have an internet issue, and you are forced to disconnect from a game. It happens to everyone once in a while. However if you rage quit a match, you should be punished very harshly. More harshly than a regular DC. Why? Because when you DC unintentionally, you were not trying to ruin someone's fun. You were not trying to be a jerk. When you rage quit, that means you had a Negative Attitude towards your team and decided you were sick of them and then left them in a 4v5 (or however many players are in the game minus one). The difference was you were a jerk.

In the report menu, there needs to be a separate option to report someone for rage quitting a match. A rage quit can be detected by;

  1. Chat log (please add surrenders and pings in there). Example: quitting immediately after a failed surrender or an argument with a teammate
  2. The score of the player in question. Example: Immediately quitting after dying a 5th time and having a score of 0-5-0.
  3. Player's items (Obvious, all boots, all wards, etc...)

The time of a quit from a player should also be recorded. So if a player initiates surrender at 22:11, then dies a 5th time at 22:17 and has a score of 0-5-0, the surrender fails at 22:24, and then he disconnects at 22:26 and never returns, then it should be obvious he rage quit the match. A player's death times should also be recorded (i.e. 5th death, 22:17).

A rage quitter's punishment should not be the same as an average leaver's punishment because the difference is that the average leaver is leaving because he has to go or something. He did not intend to be a jerk. The rage quitter? He was being a jerk.

Remember WookieCookie? Don't be a jerk.

So I think a rage quitter's punishment should look something like this.

1st-3rd offenses: Warning: Rage quitting detected 4th-6th offenses: Ranked restriction 7th-9th offenses: 2 week ban 10th offense: Permaban

There should be a time frame added to this, kind of like LeaverBuster.

Riot needs to ban rage quitters. PLEASE.

I'd like to know how you plan to identify without a shadow of doubt when someone rage quits vs D/C vs Leave

I can tell you right now, the conditions you've set do not remove the doubt. A person can easily have a bug splat after any of those situations, or randomly have their net die, and if that does happen the League client freaks out and you have to restart your machine sometimes. You could be gone anywhere from a couple seconds to 10+ minutes depending on your machine/connection/situation

LaceUp237 votes

Well, someone that says, "I'm done" and then afks.

Rueian6 votes

Doesn't remove shadow of doubt.

If someone says "im going to kill you" and you happen to die hours or days later, doesn't mean they killed you. It just makes them a suspect, but those two occurrences are not 100% incriminating

Transgressor12 votes

Your analogy fails in this particular argument.

They say "I'm done" and then instantly disconnect. What could it be, Russians firing missiles on all USA's internet service provider satelites? Nah, they just ragequited.

Canechurch2 votes

I say I'm done sometimes when I'm really frustrated, and I've had bugsplats/dc's but I've never ever rage quit. What's to say those two things never align? No this system idea sucks. Just add a "ragequit" report button. This auto ragequit ban thing is an absurd idea, I'm already terrified of being reported for no reason and getting a chat ban because the system is automated.

Rueian1 votes

I've had people say "i'm done, AFK" and they keep playing. I've also had people disconnect after dieing 0/5 and come back 10 minutes later. There is no reasonable assumption that can be made. Sometimes coincidence happens. I personally have had a bug splat happen when i was having a bad game and was in everyone's eyes feeding, but i wasn't doing it intentionally nor did i rage quit. The game simply froze and the client wanted to do a file check when I started the client back up. So 15 minutes later the game had ended already. That is the kind of situation i'm talking about. There is always doubt, putting in place such a harsh system is not a good thing.

ChaoticPinecone5 votes

Nothing removes the shadow of doubt. Even a full blown confession can be doubted. Thats why the standard is 'beyond a reasonable doubt' instead of 'certainty'.

But the proposed solution is more like saying 'im going to kill these 10 people by poisioning them' then they all happen to be dead from poison the next day. After all, when you say 'Im done. AFK', you state what youre going to do (end the game) and how (by purposefully leaving). Is there still doubt? sure. But is the doubt reasonable?

Im done - cant beg you two to stop flaming anymore Im done - Its pointless not gonna chase him anymore Im done - Full build; lets kick some ass Im done - Mutes everybody Im done - gonna get my self top and support sion

Some people say "I'm done" for the same reason others say "Fuck".

But if someone says "I'm done" and goes AFK it surely is not because they are full build.

It happened to me... Just as i hit enter to write the second line :"Lets win this!"... The electricity went out... Jut for 8 minutes... Got a warning....

Good point. Maybe after a certain amount of times of meeting those conditions, they should be warned and then eventually punished. Also, I'm talking about players that leave and never reconnect. Like quitting at first blood and never returning in a 44 minute game. Or leaving after going 0/5 before 20 and then asking for surrender. The surrender fails and the person quits immediately after 2 people vote no and never returns. If someone was gone for 10 minutes but returned, it probably wasn't a rage quit.

So maybe I was a bit harsh on the "1st offense warning, 5th offense ban, etc...". Maybe more like after the 3rd time in a time window, a warning, and then the 5th time in the time window, ban.

Rueian1 votes

until riot starts saving replays for games, there really isn't enough information for purposeful leaving. LeaveBuster is actually one of the biggest offenders for false punishment.

FastAsHeck1 votes

thats exactly why the op suggested warnings for the first times. I dont think that your internet dropping 5 times a week during a game is a very realistic scenario and if it is, well, fix your internet because you cant play anyway.

A Little Gnarly1 votes

tribunal needs to be up and active, then you send the report and let the people there decide if theres enough evidence to punish them for it. it doesn't need to be without a shadow of a doubt simply beyond a reasonable one

Rueian1 votes

Even in the Tribunal there isn't enough evidence to punish someone for 'leaving or rage quitting' Without video evidence there will always be reasonable doubt.

I hope the new Tribunal has video review. Then of course we don't want viewers to watch a 45 minute game, so time stamps of the quit should be reported.

Rueian1 votes

time stamp is provided in the chat log, and if you have the match history page put alongside it you can see where certain events happen.

Zombiephil1 votes

Yeah but the old tribunal does not say, "[20:07] Player X started a surrender vote......" or "Player X has quit!" in the chat log.

Pikmints6 votes

How instant are we talking?

"Oh no, my laptop overheated and now I'll have to reconnect to the game in a couple of minutes."

You have been banned from your account for 14 days due to recent behavior.

"Oh. So you're forcing me to leave my team now?"

T RexHasTinyArms1 votes

Well the OP suggestion is also pretty specific. If the words "I'll quit/leave/afk if you do x" followed by a DC when the other player does x, or multiple early deaths followed by DC and no reconnect ever, or surrender vote failed and immediate DC don't show up in the game history, then it would be considered a normal DC and punished that way rather than more severely. I've had storms knock out my power or the client crash or my dog eat something he shouldn't have and suddenly I have to leave and make sure he's okay, but I've never had that while I was yelling at my team that they suck and I should just leave them bc fuck them, or as I was voting to surrender a game the team still wanted to play. It's a smaller coincidence than you'd expect I would bet, and is probably pretty easy to avoid (don't rage at your team and threaten to go afk, bc if you do and then a storm knocks out your wifi you deserve the extra punishment for being a jerk and bluffing about it anyway).

TeemoJenkins5 votes

OP - please outline how you detect a leaver versus a ragequitter via software?

imonly4noobcakes5 votes

Something needs to be done about trolls period.

RUNAAANS HYDRAA4 votes

People need to have REAL FEAR instilled in them of choosing negative behavior. HARSH PENALTIES are the answer. Withhold IP gains for a period of time, DOCK current IP, ban from the store, MARK THEM so other's can be warned BEFORE committing to spending at minimum 20 mins (or less if they rage quit lol) with repeat offenders, and real hardcore account bans. TAKE AWAY PEOPLE'S SKINS, RESTRICT THEM TO USING ONLY 1 CHAMP. These may sound radical, but negative behavior is radically detrimental to the community. Riot needs to manifest The Return of The Tribunal and put ME on it (I think I've already sent my application in). WAIT!!! I got it! GIVE A BANNER/BADGE/SUMMONER ICON OR SOMETHING TO MEMBERS OF THE TRIBUNAL. Let us police ourselves.

i don't think rage quitting deserves a perma ban. maybe just frequent ranked bans but not a perma. Sometimes people leave because they are being harassed or something. Regardless no one should be perma banned over a stupid leave. Yes punished but never a perma.

Well, regular leaves can add to a perma, of course you would have to be a frequent leaver. Negative behavior can also add to a perma. Rage quitting is a combination of both. If someone is harassing another person, then the one being harassed should mute and report. I never said permaban over a few leaves.

Kãtãrinã2 votes

"5th offense = perma ban" that makes it "sound" like after 5 rage quits your perma banned. lol

Alright, so maybe I'm being a bit too harsh there. Still people should not be rage quitting 5 times.

Forgot the mute button fixed all the harassing issues.

Kãtãrinã2 votes

Didn't say that it doesn't exist, i do in fact know some people refuse to mute others and would rather talk back.

LaceUp233 votes

Yeah, well talking back is fine lol...it isn't afking. I'm sorry, but if you afk and your excuse is, "well he was mean but I didn't want to mute", you kind of deserve punishment for afking lol.

Kãtãrinã2 votes

Yeah and talking back makes you JUST as bad as the dude who started it according to riot so you'll both be punished. I'd jst mute but not everyone does.

Nameless Voice3 votes

Why not?

If you do it repeatedly, you are repeatedly intentionally ruining the games of other players. Of course it should end up in a permaban if you do it repeatedly, just like any other severely negative behaviour.

A little Peepo2 votes

Seems too harsh... I've been in games where I've actually had to leave because of an emergency out of nowhere (it happens) but I do feel where you are coming from, nothing makes you more toxic than having someone RQ a winning game because someone else took blue or red buff and then that winning game is lost because it's 4v5 regardless of how fed your team is (especially in this season where it's so easy to catch up, compared to before) I feel like consistently toxic behavior should lead to permanent ranked bans and have an appeal thing that the player could fill out, or something like that. I can deal with normal games but in ranked I tend to see more of this than anywhere else :(

Sassmast3r2 votes

You know, I think the major issue with this is the fact that, some people that are actually trolls will rage quit, and they indeed deserve punishments. Other people though, might rage quit for other reasons. I have rage quit once, about two months ago, due to the fact that my ping would NOT decrease, and instead remained at a constant 300. I either could keep playing, and not only be of no assistance whatsoever, but also almost inevitably feed my lane since it took five seconds for my movement command to be recognized. OR, I could just leave the game (which I did due to how immensely frustrating it was), and instead of feed, just not be there. Would you rather fight a 17/2/7 LeBlanc, or a 2/2/7 LeBlanc? I'm not saying that rage quitting shouldn't be punished; I would not complain if I were punished for having rage quit that day, even though indeed it would feel unfair. However, I feel like what needs to be focused instead is the people who rage quit for the wrong reasons.

dod212 votes

I totally agree that ragequitters need to be punished. And they need to be punished severely. They need to be punished in normal as well as ranked games. As OP stated, all that's needed is a simple way to report that a quitter was a ragequitter rather than not.

TotalJerk2 votes

Typically the type of people who rage-quit are worse than useless. Would you rather they leave, or stay and feed more gold while dragging down the morale of the rest of your team?

Same, that was actually why I made this thread. A guy who was a friend of my friend (meaning I was invited via Recommended Invites) rage quit the game after going 1/5 early as Nid, then quit immediately after 2 of us said no to surrender. Then immediately after the game ended, I got another invite from him.

A warning is not bad. As long as you don't leave frequently you should be fine. Now it seems like 2 leaves in a short period of time gives you an LPQ.

240 games played, bronze 4. But then again, you don't mention that you messed up all of those games, nonono you talk about a guy leaving. Get to diamond, then come and make suggestions. You are wasting time posting in forums, should put that effort into practicing, getting better, getting out of bronze for a change.

I get your point when it comes to people just complaining when there's things that they did wrong and should work on, but it doesn't change the fact that this is a decent suggestion. Even in normals the occasional raging fool will decide to leave because they didn't get their way. All the OP is suggesting is that those people be given a harsher punishment than they currently are, which isn't that bad of an idea.

I don't see what rank has to do with player behavior.

Woah, woah, woah. I never blamed anyone for my ranked failures. I play this game for fun, I don't care about losing in Bronze. I just don't like playing 3v5 normals (I only play ranked once in a while now) because our premade bot decides to quit the game after mid and top die once. I PLAY THIS GAME FOR FUN. Actually you know what AlexanderRaven? I'm DONE with you. Post away but I won't listen. The fact that you looked up my profile before replying just shows you are clearly one of those people who attack Bronzies on the forums. Unless the topic is about my ranked failures, there's really no reason why ANYONE should be looking up the OP'S PROFILE.

There is ZERO mention about my ranked stuff in the OP. I'm gonna be honest here. I cannot STAND the people that instantly look up the OP's profile on the forums before replying. Unless the post is something like, "Please help me, trolls keep me in Bronze," there's no reason why you are looking up the person's rank.

so you are basically saying that if there are jerks in my team and/or smurfs on the enemy team and i rage quit,i deserve to be punished.you are a fucking moron.

Trollmanship1 votes

Two very obvious problems:

  • There is no way to detect this with an automated program which is what Riot uses to punish people.
  • A report option? Really? Hahaha, it would be 100% useless because the community refuses to use reports properly. You would just end up with every single DCer, ragequit or not, getting reported anyways.
