Did malzahar really need a 90% damage reduction and a spell shield?

JavelinJoe··5 votes·1,189 views

His kit is already stacked and his Ult's only two weakness are silences and CC. So with silences being scarce as it is ( think we're down to just ChogathFiddlesticks Garen andSoraka if we are not including Malzahar himself), CC is the best option, but for 1 second he can just ignore all of it and cannot be bursted down.

Considering Malzahar has no escape, I do like the damage reduction. No longer does he get one shot by assassins as soon as he gets back into lane.

If you're playing any ranged midlaner, it literally takes one, ONE auto attack to pop his shield. If you try to all in him with it up, it's your own fault.

He also has an attack range nerf on the PBE that is probably going to go live, so he's going to really need it now.

Popppyseed2 votes

This is my main gripe with his new passive, everything is getting nerfed on him because its so strong.

Zane Zephyr1 votes

I agree, they're cutting 50 attack range and nicking 5 movement speed from him. It really sucks.

Have a Nice Game1 votes

Despite the fact that I've all but dropped Malzahar after the "update," I'm still pretty upset about the movement speed nerf.

He was immobile, the only compensation he had were his strong spells and decent ms (way better than anivia's 325)

It sucks that Riot wants this shield to make Malzahar more accessible to new players (poor positioning) so badly that they nerfed everything else about him.

Papa Slothy1 votes

the problem is that he is crazy oppressive vs melees

Zane Zephyr1 votes

Okay...? So is Quinn and just about any other ranged character

Get a QSS/Hex drinker first and he can't do shit to you

Papa Slothy1 votes

yea, that is true (both qss/hex and quinn) but with malz he can deliver quite a brutal beating

Dominick Destine3 votes

I tend to agree.

He wasn't underpowered before, he was pretty balanced... now he's a bit crazy op. http://champion.gg/champion/Malzahar/Middle DAT WIN RATE.

His winrate was actually that high beforehand. It's been at ~55% for the last year or so.

He was never this high of win rate/play rate.

To say "it was that high" you'd be lying.

Zane Zephyr2 votes

Play rate wasn't high, but his win rate has been steadily at about 55% over the course of the last year.

his win rate has been .... 55% .... (for a) year.

Absolute tosh.

At least make your lies less obvious, sir.

From July of last year, apart from the small dip in January, his win rate has almost never been below 53%, and has had above 50% for the last two years

"Almost never below 53" "Almost never" "53"

his win rate has been .... 55% .... (for a) year.

So, will you be admitting that you were talking nonsense yet or should we continue?

Zane Zephyr5 votes

I said ~55%, and it still doesn't change the fact that his win rate has been higher than average over the last two years.

If you knew how to read it would be blatantly obvious.

I also mained malzahar before the rework, and literally every time I checked lolking, he was ALWAYS in the top 3 for winrate.

Got any more straws that you want to grasp at?

Dominick Destine1 votes

Oh okay so you're going to double down on your nonsense despite being proven to be completely wrong.

Got it, and by the way the current win rate is 56% nearing 57%... your argument fluxuates and has gone down to 53 or even 52. Basically your argument is garbage, nothing further needs to be said.

Zane Zephyr3 votes

That's why my comments are getting thumbs ups and yours aren't. You are a complete moron who hasn't done a single thing to disprove any point I said.

Until you have something useful to say, stop talking. You have a lot of nerve considering everything you have said has been nothing but blithering nonsense.

That's your argument? that reality is a popularity contest? Spectacular fail. Facts do not change based on popularity.

I guess by your logic, Justin Bieber makes great music.

Zane Zephyr3 votes

No, because what I said actually makes sense and I have literally proved to you that his win rate has been higher than average and you are choosing not to accept it.

Not a single thing you have said has disproved that, and at this point you are just trying to troll and failing spectacularly.

No, because what I said actually makes sense

I don't remember saying "It doesn't make sense", I said and am still saying "You're completely wrong (since the beginning)" which you are. The numbers don't line up and your best argument is to pretend like they do, which they don't.

My initial link provided shows Malzahar at 56.X% win rate at this time. Your argument started at 55%

his win rate has been steadily at about 55% over the course of the last year.

then went down 53% ... 52%... 50%... despite your initial statement pushing that it was 55% consistently over the course of a year, which is a blatant lie and even if you were right on that part, that's still not 56.X%.

So unless you (hilariously) try to argue that 2 - 3 % difference doesn't matter, you have no argument, you are wrong; Malzahar has never been at this level, he is brokenly overpowered.

Zane Zephyr2 votes

Yes, because they don't matter because it's FLUCTUATED OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS BUT HAS STILL BEEN HIGH.

Anything steadily over a 50% win rate for a champion is high, whether it's 53, 55, or 56, IT IS STILL A HIGH WIN RATE NO MATTER WHICH ONE IT IS.

Anything steadily over a 50% win rate for a champion is high, whether it's 53, 55, or 56

Attempt the muddy the waters / false equivalency.

Each % marks a very big difference, 51% is not the same as 52, let alone 56% and being "above 50% win rate" is not high, 50.1% and 56% (Again, Malzahar's current win rate) are worlds apart.

Also worth noting that Malzahar has a combination of high play rate and high win rate. As we know; High play rate tends to deflate win rate, that he is maintaining such a high win rate is further indication that the character is completely broken.

Have a Nice Game2 votes

So I just checked

http://champion.gg/

Malzahar isn't anywhere on the top winners lmao

I also mained Malzahar before the update and let me say:

His winrate has always fluctuated between 52-55 or barely 56%

The only reason why he gets nerfed now is because more people are crying about him due to the fact that Malzahar went from strong in the hands of the few who chose to attempt mastering him to decent in the hands of many due to a positioning forgiving passive.

In other words, more people are facing Malzahar's current passive today on a more frequent basis than they did against the powerhouse that was old Malz before he was "updated".

I doubt there is a single person who recently picked up Malzahar who would tell you:

"Yea man! I could totally own with Malzahar if his shield didn't exist"

Why? Because they'd die so much without it. lol

Zane Zephyr2 votes

THIS IS TAKEN LITERALLY FROM THE PATCH NOTES THE LAST TIME HE GOT NERFED BEFORE HIS UPDATE.

"Malzahar’s been sleeping just below the surface of too powerful for a long time, only just recently breaking through the top of Strong Mountain. Instead of taking away from his signature lane control and single-target lockdown, we’re opting to chip away at his unintended strengths, targeting incidental area damage instead."

THIS IS TAKEN

From something that is irrelevant.

Stay on point... but I know you won't because you have no argument.

JRobin311 votes

IMO, he does not need it or at least it should have a longer cooldown. It shouldn't generally come back in short team fights if you proc it early. It's not a win rate issue, it's a design issue.

SaltyKracka1 votes

The actual stupid thing about it is that it lingers for a second.

Sure, give him a passive that's a superior banshee's veil to immunize him from initiation. But don't make it immunize him to burst patterns too.
