Why are auto attacks the absolute highest form of damage?

I just don't get it. Here we have an ADC, who literally does nothing but right-click on you and use abilities to augment their AA spam (which, you know, you don't aim, can't miss and don't have to even think about), yet they have the absolute highest damage in the game, both short and long-term. Then we have an assassin, who can burst, but then does nothing -- and if that ADC didn't die? Well, the assassin is dead.

Earlier today, I played against an Ashe with Illaoi. I pulled her with E, ulted HER ENTIRE TEAM (meaning I had six tentacles up), and Wd Ashe three times, hitting both her and her spirit. Wanna guess what happened? I died instantaneously, from ONLY ASHE, while she survived six tentacles smashing her, along with my Q and W spam, THREE TIMES. I had Triforce and over 300 AD, so I was doing thousands of damage per W -- yet she lives, since she can heal through auto attacks. She had no defense, no HP, nothing. Just a BT and a bunch of AD items.

Remind me again what weakness ADCs have? They certainly don't die to a God damn juggernaut doing a full rotation on her, which would instantly kill anyone else.

ADC:

Strengths

  • Zero skill or thought required; click on champ, win.

  • RIDICULOUS damage, to the point that an ADC would be a better assassin than Zed.

  • So much range that no one can get near them or run away.

  • Items like BT, which make them invincible, to the point that an Illaoi with >300 AD + Triforce and six tentacles smashing down on them can't kill them.

  • Unkitable.

  • Abilities usually make their AAs stronger, or add even more damage to their click fest.

  • Most have some form of CC.

Weaknesses

  • Only weakness is CC spam, but that's every champ's weakness.

Hmm... So all those strengths, and their only weakness is one that every single champ in the game shares? Okay, so maybe these harder champions do more damage or something? Nope! Auto attacks are, by far, the highest form of damage in this game, both burst and sustained.

Remind me how that's fair, at all? How is that balanced? Why does Riot even bother releasing anything that isn't an ADC? I just don't get it.

It's almost like she had 13 kills and a 5,000 gold lead over you.

From level 6, she could easily kill me, and everyone else on my team. It wasn't just her kills or gold lead. She was just always broken.

The counter for ADCs is learning how to kite them

You can't kite people who outrange you and out-damage you. Immobile champions can't do anything against an ADC unless they're a full tank -- and even then, you only have like five seconds to kill them or run away.

When has it ever been a good idea for an immobile, cc-less, non-tank to solo engage an ADC?

Well, when the supposed weakness for an ADC is that they're squishy, and your full combo does well over half their HP (and is back up in a few seconds), you'd think you could kill them, right? When I ult an entire team + spirit as Illaoi, and have SIX TENTACLES smack Ashe all at once, along with my W and Triforce proc, you'd think she'd die -- especially since I hit her three times, right? Naw, she lived with ~20% HP -- and no one hit me but her.

Also, why complain about a game you won? You also built trashy forIllaoi anyway.

I build her like an AD caster, and it really works well. Look a bit further in my history; I have some amazing games with her. Just sad that I rarely get to play her. T_T

So because it works well vs some you think it should undeniably work in every situation, am I getting that right?

Niyumi2 votes

No, not necessarily. I find a build that works for what I want to get out of the champion, and I use that for the majority of my games. If I need to adapt it (more tanky, etc) then I do. It's up to me to make the proper plays and do things well enough to win though, I don't expect to just win.

Illaoi is a funny champ; she's VERY counter-playable, but she's very strong when she does the counter-playing and wins. Builds don't matter much on her. I just like being more bursty at the cost of having less tankiness -- I build like that on all my champs.

Good glad you aren't one of those who think the same build should win every game no questions asked xD.

Skill and overall game knowledge still has some small effect in League, even if it's absolutely destroyed by things like ADCs. If I'm just a far better player, I can pull things off and win. Sometimes, I lose, and I'll admit I'm not a challenger-level player or anything, but I can hold my own, and don't think I'm silver. :P

Because ADC dont have the highest damage? Champs that do AOE damage usually do. Also Mages are usually burst so they focus on literally 100-0 you instantly vs ADCs which is usually a slow death(Yes I know 700crits only take a few to kill but its slow when it takes say 3-7 autos to kill vs a burst mage that kills you in the time they shoot you once.)

Have you seen Viegar by chance? He can 1 hit you with a single unavoidable ability, so they clearly aren't the absolute best damage lol.

Salty ADC mains downvoting this post :^) I agree though, it's the easiest role by far. I'll stick to my SKILLSHOT-based ABILITY POWER champion, so I can feel like what I do actually takes skill.

Yeah. Most of League's community thinks that brain dead champs should be the strongest. But, you know, how many snotty kids or entitled brats would throw money at Riot if they had to actually try in order to win? Not many.

See, this is another wonderful aspect of F2P; quality doesn't matter, and Riot will do anything in order to make money -- even if that means making an entire portion of the champ roster irrelevant.

I enjoy the skill-based champs, but it just bothers me that all the work and effort I put into my champ is made irrelevant by someone clicking on me.
